  1. Any news about HHS football. It's been really quiet this spring.
  2. The Birds should come out running this year. Hebel (6'2" 300lbs), Richardson (6'0" 250), Haas (6'4" 250). And a host of good runners behind them. There will be some holes on the left side.
  3. Ryle will host a 7 on 7 event in July with a Big Man event the same day for linemen. I am hoping a lot of the NKY schools attend. It will be interesting to see what events are part of the big man competition. I believe it is July 25th or 27th. Highlands will be attending.
  4. It's not my favorite design, but all championship rings are beautiful. Congratulations Rocks.
  5. Evan Richardson: Highlands Center: Deadlift 600lbs.
  6. Evan Richardson: Highlands Center: Deadlift 495x5.
  7. My son is taller than any male in our family going back as many generations as we know. He has maxed a lot in his 17 years. I was unable to find any studies that link maxing to harming growth plates or stunting growth. Some mention that lifting increases testosterone levels and therefore would be expected to close growth plates prematurely. However, these are only correlational. Most studies I have read found links between lifting and increased bone density. However, I was able to find no studies looking at maxing specifically.
  8. Just watched Rico Hill's hudl highlights. Love his style. Runs downhill and punishes people. hudl lists his bench as 355.
  9. For a lift to be a record, it needs to occur at an official event. There are different organizations that have events. National Association of Strength Athletes (NASA) is one of many. A player can become a member and attend for a yearly fee. These organizations have very strict rules concerning each lift type. For example, for the bench press to count: the lifter needs to lower the bar on command, touch his chest, pause, raise the bar on command, hold the weight, and rack the weight on command. If any of these steps are not followed correctly, the lift is no good. For the squat to count, the knees have to be below the hips. They also drug test after state and national records. Simply having your son's coach say it was a good lift doesn't count. I have been to high school meets where the kids bounce the weight off their chests like basketballs and the lifts are counted as good. Each high school meet has different rules. I even saw one where the kid's coach kept his hands on the weight all the way down and up and the lift counted. When a high school player is claiming a 400 bench or 500+ squat I want video. I want it for two reasons. First, to verify it happened. Second to be able to witness an athletic anomaly. If you see a kid attempting these kinds of weights, get it on film. Most people will never believe it without proof.
  10. Without video, I have to believe most of these numbers are grossly exaggerated. It's not that difficult to get a video.
  11. I do not doubt the 460 bench. I would like to see the video.
  12. There is also an event at North Laurel High School today. Great event last year. Couldn't make it this year. Any updates on lifts for these events would be appreciated.
  13. 425 lbs. for 1 bench. Not the best video quality....but bad video is better than none at all. Currently does 405 for 3.
  14. I meant no disrespect. However, when I compare film and roster, the colonels lost its defensive backfield to graduation. Shields, Steins, and Thorsen will fill the gap of graduation on the d-line. All three did play a great deal. My comment was more of a compliment to the graduating seniors, than a stab at the players who remain.
  15. I expect Highlands' o-line to be about as good as it was last year. I don't know how that stacks up against the other teams in NKY. It sounds like there are a lot of quality linemen coming back across NKY. I bet Highlands will come up with a five man unit that will be able to compete. Replacing Gall and Bunning will be a chore. It will be interesting to see who steps up.
  16. 2014 Highlands/Owensboro game has to be up there. First half: OHS 42 HHS 21 Second half: OHS 0 HHS 28.
  17. Notables coming back on defense are Shields (sp?) and Thorson (sp?) on d-line. Pitzer (sp) at linebacker. I believe d-line and defensive backfield were hit hard by graduation.
  18. Junior Season - Bo Hebel highlights Highlands fans get one more year of Bo.
  19. I love the schedule this year. I expect a lot of good games in NKY this year for the Birds. Anyone know anything about Scott County or St.X Louisville for 2015?
  20. Any predictions on the next covcath quarterback?
  21. I have great faith that Austin Hergott will play quarterback. 1. He is a large young man. He will be a load to bring down when he runs the ball in this balanced attack. 2. He has more experience at QB than all the other contenders combined. 3. He will finally be throwing to the top shelf receivers which will make him look better and increase his confidence. In the balanced offense of a short passing set, his receivers will be open for shorter throws. 4. The fact that his o-line should be better than average will take pressure off him in the passing game. 5. Under center 4th and 1 will equal 1st and 10. I see this as his job into and through spring ball. If he is not the QB, he would be the best tight end in NKY.
  22. Fort Thomas continues to accept new (tuition) students. HHS has accepted a number of new students for the 2015-16 school year. The Fort Thomas Schools are not closed to tuition students.
