Tough year up on the hill . . when was the last time both NCC's boys' and girls' teams were out this early? When was the last time they were both out before both Brossart teams were out? I only ask because my kids go to St. Joe's and I'm trying to decide where to send them to High School

Football has classes and I don't hear anyone complaining. If they didn't, there would be no Highlands or NCC football tradition or championships because Trinity would win every year. Everyone OK with that?

So we have it right and the rest of the country has it wrong? Being bull headed is not a good reason to stick with what you have. They ALL were once like us and changed. I'd like to hear from supporters of schools with a girls' enrollment of 400 or less. The historical numbers say you don't have a chance to win state - but do you defend having a single class???

But more classes would mean more $$$$ - more teams playing, more games to be played, more fans, more everything! It's a win-win.

The numbers don't lie . . . . for the last 10 girls' KHSAA basketball champs . . . Avg enrollment - girls only - all 10 - 622 4 public schools that won - girls only - 744 6 private schools that won - girls only - 540 Conclusion - Without classes, if your girls' enrollment isn't at these levels, you simply aren't going to win a state championship in Kentucky. Hoosiers was just a movie and Cinderella just lost by 50 with a running clock. We need classes.

Heard rumors that NDA's Meredith Klare is going to Xavier. Can anyone confirm? I think NDA goes into the fall with 3 D1 commitments, after losing 2 D1 players to graduation???

Here's the thing . . . there are many levels of club/select/AAU for every sport. I have no problem with the top level teams asking you to chose them and only them - and most clubs will state that upfront before you try out. Can you leave? Absolutely. Just don't expect any new club/team that is less restrictive and allows players to leave for other sports to be as successful as the team/club that has team members 100% dedicated to 1 sport. Someone was asking about KHSAA control. We are in the era now where you can get a scholarship without ever playing 1 minute for your local High School in every sport but football. The KHSAA is powerless.

First, always celebrate your wins if you like, never said don't. Second, this Girls HS basketball thread doesn't say "Varsity" only, but it is implied. And you're right - this is Girls High School basketball, not the rec league where everyone gets a trophy. Varsity teams and coaches are judged by their record. Know why you don't see scores and records for frosh and JV games? Because they don't matter - those teams are for developing players for next season. That's why they play at 5pm. Boast all you want about your 25-2 record. Just don't read anything into it. Many like to equate these "mythical" Frosh and JV championships with future success for the Varsity team. It's just a really bad predictor. I can name several schools that would have 30-0 seasons if all of their Freshman played on the Freshman team all season.

Ugh. Can we please combine the JV and Freshman discussions into the "other sports" category? With all the playing up, down, and all around, these JV and Frosh tourneys are the biggest false positives and false negatives you can get.

Couldn't disagree more . . . that's what people always say about teams this time of year when they get blown out. Rematch?? Why would anyone want a rematch with ND right now? They are peaking at the right time. The last 3 teams Conner lost to, ND beat - with 2 of the 3 in blowout fashion. Are you sure Conner isn't pulling a "New Cath" ?

I detect a hint of . . it's only girls volleyball, who cares, move along . . . I wonder if you would say the same if the story was about HHS Football.

My guess is a complete inability to score more points than the other team before time runs out . . .

Are you alleging NCC is recruiting? I'm sure she went to NCC to get a "quality education" not for the "opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities."

I'm sorry, but I can literally find you dozens and dozens of buzzer beaters from the regular season and the REAL state playoffs. You all think having a small school tourney guarantees that everything is a "Hoosier" moment, or it makes it more special beacuse of that. If SK drains a 3 vs Boone Co to win at the buzzer, is that also not special? You all are, again, making RCC's point. Like BBHS wouldn't have had a moment like this at some point this year (or maybe they've even already had it) If that was Silver Grove, Calvary, or Deming sinking that basket, then I would be completely on board. That would be a reason to celebrate this tourney. That would be a special moment that likely wouldn't happen anywhere else.

You are obviously brand new to High School sports. You have that completely backwards. Don't worry, this forum will get you straightened out.

Actually, as the last 10 pages have pinted out, it's about the kids in SOME small schools. So the rest of the season means nothing? The REAL state playoffs take a backseat to an in-season tournament? The "powers" at hand got us into this mess. If there's this much interest in a statewide tourney for a certain class, then what the public is saying is we want classes in basketball. Why don't we have them?

I don't get the All A either. Imagine if someone started a tournament limited to schools with 500 students or more. They would get ripped every day, saying it's not fair to the small schools. Yet, the All A gets a pass in excluding the big schools. The All A is nothing more than a really long tournament. If you win it, great, you won a tournament. But more often than not, the champ is paraded around like they are "state champs", and often refered to as "state champs" as in "we won the All A State Championship" which is really misleading. Just say you won the All A Tournament. Why the KHSAA doesn't have classes in some sports is beyond me. Smoky back rooms filled with back-slapping good 'ole boys making deals with suitcases full of money is my guess why we don't.
