JV championship

Featured Replies

I hear the JV championship is being played at Highlands on Thursday, before senior night between HHS and SK. Any takes on the game, and I think it is great the freshman and JV squads get this opportunity.

Now i doubt this would happen, but someone suggested that Since its senior night and Adler and Coffey wont be starting Varsity, might they play down?

No way Coach Richey would do that. She has way too much class. But it would be ironic considering they are playing SK.

Why "ironic considering they are playing SK"?

Well, on two levels:

1st it is a rematch of the freshmen tourney from last year only HHS has some players who played frosh last year who arent playing jv this year (Adler, Coffey, and a few others) and

2nd there was some controversy about SK playing kids down for the frosh tournament last year (see thread on freshmen tourney)

But i still say no way Coach Richey would move them down and risk them getting hurt to win a JV game. Not to mention it just wouldnt be right and would be way out of character for her.

I really doubt they would do that. They don't put all their stock into winning at the freshman and JV levels like others do!

Man, you are really digging deep and low my friend. Jaime Richey will not do this, I can assure you of this.

The Frosh may not start but they will be in the game within the first 30 seconds. Just sayin...

Apparently i need a sarcasm font.

What girls play JV at highlands?

Because of numbers, all the girls besides the seniors and the two freshman that start have played JV all year. There are 8 that don't play JV.

No dog in the fight but with a 1st round match up with NCC and the loser going home in districts. I gotta believe there's not a snowballs chance in hell that Jaime moves anyone that contributes at the varsity level down and risks injuries for a JV title. NOT HAPPENING

Ugh. Can we please combine the JV and Freshman discussions into the "other sports" category? With all the playing up, down, and all around, these JV and Frosh tourneys are the biggest false positives and false negatives you can get.

So are you saying that all of the hard work that these JV and Freshman players put in this year means nothing? That they should not be considered part of the "High School basketball thread" and should be put in "other sports"? I know it's "just freshman" or "just JV" but give me a break. These players and coaches have worked really hard this year and are excited that their team has done well enough to get into the championship game. They may not be playing Varsity yet, but they are still part of the high school program. The look on my daughter's face and the excitement from the other girls on the team after their win last night in the "freshman" tournament tells me that this meant a lot to these girls. And for you to just dismiss their acheivement like that is uncalled for. How about a "great job" on a tremendous 25-2 season instead of "it's a false positive".

First, always celebrate your wins if you like, never said don't. Second, this Girls HS basketball thread doesn't say "Varsity" only, but it is implied. And you're right - this is Girls High School basketball, not the rec league where everyone gets a trophy. Varsity teams and coaches are judged by their record. Know why you don't see scores and records for frosh and JV games? Because they don't matter - those teams are for developing players for next season. That's why they play at 5pm. Boast all you want about your 25-2 record. Just don't read anything into it. Many like to equate these "mythical" Frosh and JV championships with future success for the Varsity team. It's just a really bad predictor. I can name several schools that would have 30-0 seasons if all of their Freshman played on the Freshman team all season.

If these threads about jv and freshmen bug you so much, why are you reading them and posting in them? If you dont like them, just ignore them.

Also, no one in this thread has said anything bragging about their varsity turning awesome because of freshmen or jv success. This means you can chill with the whole false positive or negative thing. Seems that most posting here already know that. It is pretty clear that coach4eva was only stating that those kids were excited about what they accomplished in and of itself. SHE SAID NOTHING ABOUT THEIR FUTURE VARSITY BEING AWESOME. You were the only one making it into references of the future. WE ALL KNOW THAT IT ISNT VARSITY! WE ALL KNOW THAT IT DOESNT MEAN VARSITY SUCCESS, WE GET THAT - but that doesnt mean people cant still be excited and happy for what their kids achieved.
