  1. I don’t think she ever committed to NKU. She had an offer from the previous staff but I don’t know if the current staff offered her. She had taken some official visits to DI and DII schools but decided LWC was where she wanted to attend school and play ball.
  2. First, congrats to CC on the win. I know virtually kid on both teams. This was Igo’s first game this season, she is not close to 100% yet. As she get healthier and gets a couple of games under her belt, the Cards will improve. As to the two, young women who quit at CC, I can promise you avoiding hard-work was not a factor in their decision. They are great kids who have never shied away from work or competition. Showing up and cheering for their school is indicative of their character and upbringing. These are still the 2 best teams in the region and the region title will be decided better these 2 plus Mason and Scott barring injuries.
  3. How about Alltech Arena at the Horsepark? Don't have to compete with collegiate schedules, parking is no issue and remains in central part of state.
  4. I can speak to Bradshaw situation and no I am not Bradshaw. He knew exactly what he was getting into with the time requirements. He has been a boys varsity head coach and served as the interim girls varsity head coach. The 30-40 minute drive from home to Brooksville had absolutely zero to do with him leaving the position after 1 year! If the drive was a concern, he would have NEVER applied for the position in the first place. Bradshaw is currently not coaching because he made the decision to stay out of coaching this season - he has had multiple offers and conversations with people who want him on their bench.
  5. In regards to the importance of JV and how it can be used to look for the future of program, you first have to look at the make-up of that particular team's varsity roster. For instance, if you look at GRC's roster this season most of the minutes were taken by 9 kids - 2 seniors, 1 junior, 4 sophomores, 1 freshmen and 1-7th grader so the impact of their JV team is not real high over the next couple of seasons because the varsity is so young. Mason County, on the other hand, is looking at their JV kids to make the jump to being heavy contributors on the varsity level next season because they graduate 8 seniors. So JV is important to get kids minutes on the floor for experience and evaluation but it can't always be used to compare potential future success because their is such a variance between schools.
  6. Anna Clephane and Lexie Stapleton from Scott; Taylor Clos and Mackenzie Schwarber from Campbell Co; Kennedy Igo, Shamaya Behanan, Maleaha Bell and Jasmine Flowers from GRC; Madison Kellione from Harrison Co; Kara Moran and AJ Reed from Mason Co; Kailee Finch from Paris; Kinley Ruf from Bracken Co
  7. GRC is taking the "Tour of Champions" today through all five of the elementary schools in Clark County. The team travels to each school for the elementary aged kids to greet the team and send them off with signs, cheers and goodies. For those that remember doing this with the 2014 team, they say it is one of the best memories they have from that trip. The team will be sent off from the high school tomorrow morning to make the trip to "The Bank"
  8. Simply using stats that have been posted: Mason County 16/48 33.3% FG 4/16 25% 3FG 17/21 81% FT 29 boards GRC 21/38 53.3% FG 4/12 33.3% 3FG 12/16 75% FT 19 boards
  9. Cutting and pasting out of a word document that is emailed to one person versus going to KHSAA site and looking up then sorting through 17 teams with at least 6-7 players each that could meet some of the requirement plus some stats aren't included on KHSAA.
  10. The report that was given is done by one person (voluntarily) for the region coaches association and sent out weekly to college coaches and media members (a total of almost 300 people). Coaches are asked to submit their stats weekly to that person to be compiled. If the coach does not submit the stats, their kids don't get included because it's really not feasible to go to KHSAA site and get the reported stats (which aren't always complete) for all 17 teams in the region. Additionally, this report contains stats that aren't submitted to KHSAA.
  11. currently: 9th region - 12 male; 5 female; 1 open 10th region - 12 male; 4 female; 1 open 11th region - 12 male; 4 female; 1 open
  12. In the pre-tourney info each region is assigned a hotel. The school must be located more than 40 miles away to be eligible for reimbursement from the KHSAA for hotel and meals. This is where some of the rub with teams exists. The hotels were not willing to work with teams (at least some). We stayed in a hotel with a team--KHSAA reimbursement is $13 per night per person in the official party (33 people). If you put 4 in a row that is only $52. The hotel we were in charged $140 per night so the school is on the hook for $88 per night. It should not cost teams that kind of $ to play in the state tourney! We were told that hotels were one of the biggest issues the KHSAA had with the event.
  13. The region draw is scheduled for Saturday morning. The quarterfinal games will be Monday and Tuesday (2/29 & 3/1) with the semifinals Friday night (3/4) and the championship game on Saturday night (3/5).
  14. Not to bust bubbles but the NCAA limit for total scholarships to a DI or DII school for volleyball is 4.5 so basically no one gets a full ride to play volleyball on the collegiate level. There are a few who can bundle academic money with a limit volleyball money to get it to almost a full ride but full ride on only a vb scholarship will be extremely limited.
  15. Everyone should be careful to not understate the impact of losing Carson Gray to graduation could be. She was the LEADER that controlled the team. There is talent on this team but who is willing to lessen their scoring in order to run the PG spot? Kramer and Jolly are both closing in on 1000 points but will likely take almost the full season to get there. Will they play team ball or look for their own points as that milestone approaches. Rumor also has it that a couple of kids who quit last year are returning as seniors--what does that do to chemistry? Talented group but I think there are some real questions to be answered once the season starts.
  16. There is alot of conversation about the poor shooting night for CC. According to the stats entered by CC, they shot 67% on 2 point shot attempts (36/54), 10% on 3 point attempts (2/20) and 68% from the FT line (19/28). Yes, they shot poorly from the 3 point line but to assert that they struggled shooting the ball is a little bit of a stretch. You can't score 97 and shoot poorly.
  17. The play Goldie is referring to was a play in the 2nd half. Skinner caught a "home run ball" pass over bourbon's press. She scored and as she turned to go on defense she and Yazell from bourbon collided. The officials stopped the game and coach Graham removed Skinner from the game to ensure she wasn't hurt. You are correct that she struggled from the FT line and that she was being used in offense/defense situation as it become Bourbon's game plan to foul her if she had the ball.
  18. The coaches who belong to the KABC vote for a player of the year and a coach of the year. The POY must be a senior. She is invited to play in an all-star game on Saturday of the state tourney and is invited to the Sr. all-star team try-outs. The COY is invited to be a member of the all-star team selection committee. In the 10th region, the 10th region coaches association also selects players to all-region team. Not sure if they actually select a POY or just have 1st, 2nd and 3rd team selections. Coaches association also selects COY. There have been several years where the KABC COY and region coaches association COY have been different.
  19. I have no dog in this fight and have enjoyed the bantering. With all that is being said, I thought it might be fun to just do a little research and see how the "big 3" of the 9th match up to this point. According to Maxpreps, Holmes is ranked #2, Highlands #12 and Holy Cross #14 in the state. In today's H-L, the Cantrall ratings have Holmes at 84.3, Highlands at 80.8 and Holy Cross at 76.6. Some breakdowns (using Cantrall ratings): Holmes: 16-0. Opponents combined record is 124-93 and their in-state opponents have an average Cantrall rating of 60.8 Highlands: 13-1. Opponents combined record is 105-98 and their in-state opponents have an average Cantrall rating of 59.2 Holy Cross: 11-3. Opponents combined record is 132-72 and their in-state opponents have an average Cantrall rating of 65.6. Holmes is averaging 69.8 ppg while giving up 34.9 ppg. They have a team FG % of 40.7%; 3 pt FG% of 29.2% and FT% of 64.6% Highlands is averaging 63.5 ppg while giving up 39.5 ppg. They have a team FG% of 44.6%, 3 pt FG% of 35.7% and FT% of 68.4%. Holy Cross is averaging 57.9 ppg while giving up 41.5 ppg. Can't really establish good shooting percentages since they have only loaded stats for 6 of their 14 games played. All three teams are very solid (yes, I have watched all 3 multiple times this season). When they get together and play, I think it will all come down to who can adapt in game with how the officials let the game play out and how the coaches adjust to what each other tries to take away and impose on the opponent during the game. I would look for all of the games to be highly competitive. However, this is girls basketball and sometimes strange things happen and blow-outs could occur.
  20. "going to throw Amori Gulley in the mix for her combination of size, speed and athletic ability has taken on a few big time players in Skinner from GRC and Tibbs from Dixie and played great D and held both well below their respective averages!!" dg21 - Amori is a nice player but be careful of trying to build her up at the expense of other players. Skinner scored 17 against Holmes and she averaged 18 per game for the season. Tibbs scored 15 and averages 14.2 per game for the season. Looks like both players pretty much got their average in the games with Holmes.
  21. 1. GRC - Best player in region + experience + future star. Question mark is how do they handle the loss of leadership that Graham provided last year. 2. Mason Col. - talented youth that gained lots of experience last season. Potential questions - how do they deal with loss of 2 great players that we heart and soul of the team, size, team chemistry with players, coach and parents? 3. Scott - young talent that has lots of experience, good depth. Potential questions - Who takes care of the ball this season since Niece is gone (handled it 85% of time the last 2 years), program chemistry with players and parents? 4. Montgomery - lost a great deal over the last 2-3 years but they still have Montgomery on the front of the jersey. Nice player in Arnett but where will her help come from. Great coach. 5. Bourbon - Could be the year that they make the region tourney. Simms is a load to handle. How do transfers mesh and contribute will likely determine how far this team goes. 6. Campbell - good guards but no size. Questions - depth, how do kids respond to new coach (3rd in less than 6 months), will parents continue to have control of the program? 7. Nicholas - Could be the year that someone other than Brossart takes the All A. Good young guards that have gained experience over the last couple of years. Coach does a really nice job with the talent he has. 8. Robertson - 2 really good players in Mitchell and Saner. Questions - can the other 3 on the floor do enough to keep defenses honest, depth? Should be a very interesting district. 9. Brossart - 2 great post players but who will get them the ball. If they can solve guard question, could move up throughout the season. 10. Harrison or Augusta - Harrison has to replace Doram but should be much more balanced; Augusta has a great player but need contributions from others.
  22. According to Case BL-24-7 (9) There can be no observation of student-athletes who are enrolled at the coach’s high school, even if such observation is in conjunction with outside employment such as camps, leagues or clinics. The only exception is detailed in the allowable activities concerning the observation of the coach’s children (blood or by marriage) who are on the playing roster and actively participating on the regular high school team at a member school.
  23. Don't think that anyone could say that the Lady Camels are a "down" program - District Champs 3 years running and have played in the region championship game the last 2 years. While several major pieces graduated there is still talent in Campbell County.
  24. To continue on the points of RCC9 regarding schedules as put out there by BGH, using last week's Cantrall Ratings to compare teams in the 10th region: Bishop Brossart has played 4 ranked in the top 20. The average rating for the teams on their schedule (excluding Silver Grove) is 62. Montgomery has played 4 teams ranked in the top 20. The average rating for their schedule is 68.7. GRC has played 4 teams ranked in the top 20. The average rating for their schedule is 65.6. Campbell has played 4 teams ranked in the top 20. The average rating for their schedule (excluding Silver Grove) is 69.3. Those are the facts...
