  1. Running clock in the 2nd quarter as this contest got lopsided very quickly. I say this after watching every game, but how does Jackson end up being part of every tackle made on the field. Amazing talent! Nice job spreading the ball around to different receivers, very efficient work from Guhy at QB tonight... sure his QB rating was sky high. Looking forward to a nice doubleheader in the Alliance Bowl next Saturday @ Mayfield
  2. When does the BG Preps Pre Season Poll debut? Today, tomorrow?
  3. You're not alone, put Tilghman in any other class last year and they likely make a quick exit from the playoffs. The Tornado will probably get it rolling at some point this year, but Hoptown may take it to them here. 28-14, Tigers
  4. Apparently Marshall was really stuffed in their scrimmage with Trigg and with the Mayfield D looking to show they are stronger this year, the Orange may have problems scoring until very late. Mayfield 42 Marshall 7
  5. 7 Glasgow 5 Paducah Tilghman 3 Crittenden County 2 Taylor 1 Franklin Simpson Paducah Tilghman / tiebreaker
  6. I was thinking the same thing, crowds like that don't show up for some of those district games. Great move from the practice field to War Memorial, with lights available they could practice as late as they wanted. In fact, there was a good turnout from the Milan faithful; many of whom decided to sit on the home side. It's really amazing how these two programs mirror one another.
  7. Either he will need to throw quicker or his protection needs to get much better. Dancing around with happy feet never helped anybody.
  8. Hopefully getting a break in the heat wave just in time for week 0, still seasonably hot though through the end of August.
  9. I enjoyed the lateral to the QB Guhy for a TD (backyard football), let's stick that one in the play book for future use. Having him roll from the pocket from time to time really wouldn't be a bad idea. His speed is not exceptional, but decent.
  10. Times were originally listed as game times on the link and now they've been changed to the replay times. Still I would have bought it as a live pay per view event.
  11. While watching the Show Me Bowl(s) from Missouri tonight on Fox Sports Midwest, I'm thankful to the KHSAA for offering a live video feed of all of this weekends games... for free. It's burning me up that I can't attend my son's school playing in Friday's 4A game and my high school alma mater playing Saturday afternoon at my home for four years WKU. So while it's not TV, it's the next best thing I could ask for. :thumb: http://ky.ihigh.com/school23462/broadcast_106191.html
  12. When I joined BGPreps several months ago, I did so because, from the very beginning this Cardinal team reminded me of past Mayfield state championship teams. Not so much X's and O's, but the way they have come out focused, disciplined and prepared to take care of business night in and night out. Sure, some of it's senior leadership, but a lot of it is playing together as a team. Mayfield has the talent every year, which may fluctuate some from season to season, but for 1A football it's VERY good. While players come and go, I hope the current group of coaches stick together for a long time. It's obvious they are teaching the underclassmen solid fundamentals as many are making a big impact in this title run. If the team concept continues in the future, so will the trips to STATE. Mayfield 34-24
  13. Campus is always an option. They have several fast food places right across the street from Smith stadium inside of Downing University Center. Away from campus, but closer than the mall area, is Cheddar's (as someone mentioned above). Great food, excellent service. My new favorite in BG. http://www.cheddars.com/CHD/06/menu.html Monte Cristo is a heart attack waiting to happen, but it is very good.
  14. With no more games left to play this year, ya gotta talk about something. Maybe a new thread "Beechwood 2010" would be an appropriate place to put it. :idunno:
  15. These Massey numbers have not factored in the semi state games of last night. It will be Monday or Tuesday before these are updated. I wouldn't expect big changes, but there will be some. :thumb:
  16. Don't need to really add anything, the score says it all. It was as one-sided as the final indicates. However, I think we realized what the difference in speed and quickness is. One team had quickness, one team had both. Nice, clean game from both squads. Nice evenly officiated game for both sides, wish we could have seen more of that from 1st region zebras this year. Go CARDINALS and all of far Western Kentucky next weekend, other than Ft. Campbell, the west has been shut out of state titles for far too long. :dancingpa
  17. I know this doesn't qualify as northern KY, but if I remember correctly, I think Lawerence Co. made the trip all the way to Mayfield for a substate game in the early 90s. This is from the West Virginia border to the far western end of the state. FYI... for those who aren't familiar or just haven't looked at a map lately... Mayfield is only 30 minutes and 2 very narrow bridges (1 ferry ride) from Missouri. That's quite a haul. :walk:
  18. Anyone in the Mayfield "camp" know what time Thanksgiving pre game practice takes place?
  19. With a 6 pm central start, will this make it any more appealing to Beechwood fans? How many buses of fans might the Tigers bring?
  20. Expecting a packed house, at least on the Lone Oak side, hoping Marion brings a big crowd too. This is also the web cast game of the week for anyone that rather have a warmer place to view it or can't make the drive from upstate. http://wpsdlocal6.com/sports From the sports page, click the Gridiron Glory tab and wait a minute or 2 before the game starts to watch the stream.
  21. I too think Mayfield could win by 2 or 3 touchdowns, but only if this game was played at the beginning of the season. Now, I don't buy it. Those younger kids from Beechwood have a lot of games under their belt and have showed they were still the best class A school northern KY has to offer. For Mayfield, let's just say if they don't play in B.G. this year, it will become increasingly difficult with a stronger Beechwood team coming back next year. Mayfield's cabinets won't be empty, but this is the year to knock off the Tigers if it's going to get done. I remember several years ago when the current group of Mayfield seniors were 8th graders, folks were pointing to this class as something special. Looks like the pieces may have finally fallen into place. Mayfield 28-23, Mayfield takes a safety late in the game to optimize field position and hangs on when a late game Beechwood drive falls short. 2 state championship in the 70s, 2 in the 80s, 2 in the 90s and a chance for 2 more this decade.
  22. I agree, it is tough to rattle this Mayfield team: Down 3 TD's to the number 1 team in Tennessee 2A and storming back, down to their crosstown rival Graves Co. at halftime, down to Caldwell but in position to win at the end of the game, down to the Rockets last week and scoring twice in the 4th quarter. They've showed plenty of poise in tough situations this year. In years past, a late game drive would consist of a bunch of draw plays and a few short passes, not enough to get it done. Not ready to give a score yet, but I would imagine that this will be anyone's game going to the 4th quarter. I just can't see Mayfield committing 8 precedure penalties this week, dropping handoffs, and not holding on to passes with nothing but green grass in front of you.
  23. Trying to stay undefeated against the Beechies. :ylsuper:
  24. Procedure penalties that Mayfield committed tonight... over and over and over again... should not be happening at this point. Fumbles on handoffs along with a couple of dropped passes were also signs that the Cards were not as mentally sharp as they should have been tonight. Nice adjustment on the defense side in the 2nd half not to let Grey break anymore long runs, they really played pretty well on the Defense side of the ball except for not containing the QB. Lot of credit to the Rockets, they knew that the first game was not representitive of what they were capable of doing and made Mayfield earn it. On the heels of last week's game at Holy Cross, special teams let the Rockets down twice tonight with a muffed punt in the 1st quarter and the blocked punt gave Mayfield the momentum they needed to stick it in for the win. 3rd down play on the Rockets last possession was the STICK of the year, I think it was Higginson who unleased a de-cleater on the Rocket wide out (still think that had to be a fumble).
