Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I thought I heard they had somewhere close to or over 200 kids total in their program. With numbers like that and an outstanding program, it's pretty hard to lose.

I agree. It hurts me too, but we're just not strong enough this year.

Just wondering what everyone thinks about this game. Lexington Catholic hosts St. X for their yearly battle. St. X holds the series lead in this one and it looks to continue. A young and reloading LexCath team looks to be no match for St. X in this one. I'd say X should be able to win with ease. LCHS - 7 X- 49

Cincinnati LaSalle should win this one pretty comfortably, but I think the Colonels will put up a very good fight. Their running game will be their strength and should be able to give them some momentum. I'll say: LaSalle - 35 CCH - 17

Ward has the experience, but Steele can play as well. You are right. If we can work it the right way, it could be effective. Just working out the kinks right now.

It's quite a different offensive scheme and I don't believe it helps for team chemistry and flow. It looks like it hindered LexCath's performance tonight. Hopefully we can settle on one guy and get a solid game plan in effect before too long.

CovCath has a good future IMHO. Schaeffer is an outstanding power runner and if he gets into the open field, look out! Once a passing game is developed, you guys will have a pretty potent offense to contend with. Good luck the rest of the season and hope to play you guys again soon.

I don't know if it's the video games, but I do believe you're right. A lot of teams lack the fundamentals and others just seem lost on certain plays. Granted, I've only been out of high school for 3 years, but I've definitely noticed it, compared to when I watched the high school players when I was in grade school and middle school. It could be a different era or a change in coaching, etc. I can't pinpoint what it might be, but there is a change.

I definitely agree that it is still early, but Catholic just doesn't seem to have it this year. I know we're 2-0, but Whitley beat themselves in the 4th and CovCath is still in a down year. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. It should be a good year.

There are quite a few studs in the 11th region, like always. It's too early to pin the top 10, but the names mentioned thus far in this thread are a good list to start with. Lexington and the surrounding counties should be full of talent this year. It's going to be a good year.

I believe the bid for the 4A crown is a two-horse race in Boyle and Bell County. They look to be at the top of the class this year.

Turnovers killed the Generals tonight. Great game by Boone to capitalize on Lafayette's miscues. Boone is definitely a top 10 team, while the Generals have nothing to be ashamed of either.

I wasn't impressed with either team. A lot of mistakes by the Knights and the Colonels. It's definitely a down year for both of these programs. Raglin has speed for LexCath, but is too much of a north-south runner and the O-Line for LexCath doesn't give Ward enough time in the pocket to be a truly effective passer. The run defense for LexCath is very suspect as well, which has given up a ton of yards in the first two weeks of the season. CovCath has a tremendous athlete in Schaeffer, who ran all over the Knights. The pass offense was very weak for the Colonels, but the D played well against the Knights and stopped Raglin from making the explosive plays he was looking for. CovCath looks to be a couple years from their usual self and the Knights need to shore up on defense and give the QB some more protection as well. I'm happy the Knights could come away with a victory, but it was a very sloppy effort. I believe St. X will have their way with Catholic next Friday. It could be ugly.

You can't turn the ball over against a solid team like Boone or they will make you pay, especially if you give them a severely short field to work with. If Lafayette wants to compete this year, they need to work on ball control.

What quarter are they in?

Props to Lafayette for hanging right there with Boone. Shaw is the real deal and the Generals will go as far as he can take them. Lafayette is headed in the right direction with Coach Sayre at the helm. Should be a good second half.

I'm on my way to the LexCath-CovCath game now. Last heard this one was in the 4th..not sure of a score though.

Boone is too strong for Lafayette. Plain and simple. Shaw will get a few big runs, but that will be the only offensive spark for the Generals. Boone - 35 Lafayette - 21

To Theoldguy: Yes, Mary Queen is just down the street and has a 4PM service on Saturday evening. I will be there and then head on over to check out the first game of the Bluegrass Bowl. Lex Cath struggled with Whitley County last week and it took a comeback in the 4th with Whitley running on fumes to get the W. CovCath may be down, but they always give us their best shot. We aren't up to our full potential yet and I think inexperience on both sides will make this a pretty fair match-up. In the end, it is the Bluegrass Bowl and we've only lost once(last year to Bishop Chatard of Indianapolis) so I think we should pull it out in a thriller. Knights - 35 Colonels - 27 :banana:
