Oxnard Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 Ox, what do you think of Boone compared to past years? The thing I liked most about this Boone County team is they actually had some semblance of a passing game. This should greatly help them in preventing the opposition from putting everyone in the box. It is also a luxury having two good running backs to carry the load. Personally, I liked Oppenheimer more than Quainoo. When they fell behind early to Lafayette, it looked bad considering the ease with which the Generals moved the ball against them, but they came right back to tie and then go ahead. Moreover, each time Lafayette would creep closer, Boone County would answer them. If there is one thing that Boone County needs to work on, it is their kickoff coverage. They gave up a lot to Lafayette tonight. Boone deserves their Top 10 ranking, but Lafayette is a good team also and is not too far behind them.
KnightTime007 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Turnovers killed the Generals tonight. Great game by Boone to capitalize on Lafayette's miscues. Boone is definitely a top 10 team, while the Generals have nothing to be ashamed of either.
strongopenyon Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I like this year's edition of the Boone County Rebels. They have the two hard running backs both back and healthy, a huge nice target at tight end, a capable passing quarterback, and some nice wide receivers. Boone County has their usual hard hitting defense. This team is very capable to be nicely balanced with run and pass and I think if the offense plays are called to be balanced, they can make a nice run into the post season.
some_guy Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I was surprised at Boone's lack of size and speed. That being said they are an excellent grinding team, they flat wore Lafayette down. I was impressed with Boone's TE, tough kid with great hands, Good win for Boone.
REH5 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Good point about the passing, Nate Alford completed 9 of 16 for 134 yards with 1 TD. Trevan Brown had 4 receptions for 74 yards and 1 TD. Charles Quainoo was credited with 101 yards and 3 TDs on 32 carries while J. Oppenheimer carried the ball 10 times for 97 yards.
Fishhead Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Congrats to the Rebs. 6A should be interesting up here this year.:ylsuper:

NEERFAN Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Suprised by Quainoo's lack of average. One thing for sure, you must be durable to tote the skin for BC. I think the 1's stay healthy due to the fact that they may not be the starter after missing a few games. Does anyone ever remember a "poor" BC RB? My memory is only good for about 23 seasons, and they've had stud after stud after stud.

Seems like a few games last year where head big yardage but also had 40 to 50 carries.

Lots of carries usually add up to pretty good stats for whoever that person is. The line is the unsung hero in this system. Alexander was an exceptional back. The rest of Boone's featured tailbacks have pretty much been solid but not spectacular athletes IMO. This formula usually works well enough for Boone to get to the play-offs, but they have trouble defeating the elite teams statewide because of not having enough balance in their offense. Teams like Highlands who run a spread system are more unpredictable and harder to gameplan for on defense.
