  1. Won't matter. They can't beat South Laurel. Bad loss for Middlesboro, very bad.
  2. What a week it has been in the 13th. A lot of crazy things happening. That being said, here are my new top 5: 1. Middlesboro (18-8, 9-1)- They took their first loss in regional play last week to Clay County. For what it is worth, I was told they pitched a freshman in an attempt to save their pitchers for the FIT while Clay pitched the Griffin kid. Like I said, take that for what it's worth. Regardless, they still have the best overall record and regional play record, in addition to having big wins over Corbin and Knox Central, both of whom seem to be major players at this point. 2. Corbin (17-13, 11-4)- They move up by default. While they did perform well this past weekend in Etown, they captured wins over two of the weakest teams in the region last week in Bell County and Barbourville. They have a big game today against Knox Central. I would imagine both pitching staffs are exhausted. 3. Knox Central (16-8, 12-4)- I never thought I'd be typing this but Knox has done pretty well recently. Yesterday, they beat Bell County and this past weekend, they captured a convincing win against Clay County. 4. Clay County (17-12, 8-4)- They get the nod over North Laurel because they have split and North Laurel has played awful these past two weeks. It was a huge win for Clay in beating Middlesboro last week but they had to be very disappointed to lose the Knox Central. We'll see how tough Clay County is this week when they face a very tough Hazard opponent followed by Corbin. 5. Whitley County (14-8, 9-3)- In the past two weeks, they took 2 of 3 from SL, as well securing a big home win against NL. They will host Middlesboro this week, followed by a trip to Knox Central. Both will be good contests. OTHER: North Laurel- They've lost 9 of their last 12 games. Albeit to stiff competition, but they need to find a way to win a few more of those games. If they go .500, they are still in the top 5.
  3. While I'm not going to stoop as far, I will stick with my comment about big impact making several comments implying that Corbin was better suited to win the region than any other team. I had them 3rd in my rankings so obviously, I feel like they are still one of the better teams. But...12 losses is enough for an entire season in my opinion.
  4. Nothing? Any big games going on today?
  5. Nope. Good game. However, a 1 run game means it really could have gone either way. I'm happy we were in it at the end, that's all you can ask for.
  6. I don't have anything against Ledington but he has coached the pre-season favorite to a 13-12 record. Is that really that good of a coaching job?
  7. Who are your top 5 for the 13th region now that the season is in its final few weeks? Here are mine... 1. Middlesboro (16-5)- this was easy, since they are 9-0 in the region. They've also scored the 2nd most runs in the region and have given up the least, of the teams that have played more than 18 games. 2. North Laurel (14-9)- North has played a more impressive schedule was has lost to regional foes Clay County and South Laurel. They've scored more runs than anyone else in the region. 3. Corbin (13-12)- while their overall record isn't great, they are 9-3 in the region and took 2 of 3 from a pretty good Whitley and swept a 2 game series against SL. 4. Clay County (14-9)- While they do have a better record than Corbin, they lost to Corbin 6-7 earlier in the season. They also lost to SL and NL. They are supposed to face Middlesboro this week so that should be a good test. 5. Whitley County (13-7)- Whitley gets the edge over SL because they beat them 2 out of 3. However, they did lost one to SL and 2 of 3 to Corbin. A couple of teams that could be trouble though are SL and Harlan County. Both have one good pitcher that could win against any team on this list.
  8. Thank you very much for the insight. Sometimes cancelling games can be tough. For instance, suppose you've already hosted a team at home and won in a close game and are supposed to recipricate by travelling to play at their place. It would be tough to call and cancel that game because they would be the host and they might not be in a same situation. In fact, they may even need games. While I know the cancellation would have to happen to stay under the max number of games, it wouldn't settle well with the host team.
  9. I'm taking DeSales. They are riding a 17 games win streak coming into this game.
  10. I've been looking at a lot of schedules on KHSAA and it seems as though there are going to be a lot of games cancelled as we near the home stretch. Many teams have over-scheduled, no doubt due to the number of games cancelled last year. However, because the weather has been tremendous for most of the season, there have been few cancellations. How many of your teams have more than 32 games on their schedule as of now? 32 games, by the way, is the maximum number of regular season games allowed by the KHSAA.
  11. Great win for the Cards!! Way to rebound.
  12. With this win, Middlesboro locked up a trip to Applebee's to play in the Elite 8 of the All "A". Also, I heard Middlesboro was losing 7-3 going into the bottom of the 7th. Wow!!!
  13. So much for North Laurel supposedly being the clear front runner in the 13th.
  14. I was just saying, as far as field conditions and size of ballpark, no team ever has an advantage. They play on the same field on the same day. Now, if we were to compare Middlesboro's homerun totals to Bell County's, Corbin's, NL's, or SL's, then there would be a gripe about depth of field.
  15. It is definitely a short porch in left. But...didn't Bell County play on the same field? Didn't they have the same opportunity for homeruns and what not?
  16. Like I said, they got progressively worse. This means they were at their worst, this past season. Make no mistake, it was no coincidence that it was their worst season in recent memory.
  17. Big win for the Cards. Maybe it's not too late to turn things around. Furthermore, Clay County might be a bit overrated.
  18. Bell County is starting to play well. For Corbin, it is always good to come out on top in a close game.
  19. I was really just joking around with you. However, I really do doubt you've seen all of these teams play. Maybe I'm wrong.
  20. Rumor has it, a few of their seniors were on senior trip. They said Jake Partin wasn't there. They would have a lot to do with it. And let's not forget, they did win 15-5 in 5 innings against this same team a couple of days earlier. I think this was just a matter of one team playing out of their rear and coming close to the upset. Also, they threw a freshman the final 3 innings of this game.
  21. I'm not sure you have seen all the tearms in the region play. I'd love to hear when you saw Harlan County, Middlesboro, SL, and Knox Central play.
  22. I heard he pitched well. However, I also heard Middlesboro hit the ball pretty hard, just right at people for a good portion of the game. They really are a good offensive baseball team.
