I think they will beat Powell again. After that, it depends on who the potential second round opponent is. If Wayne were to beat Breathitt, (which is possible but not likely), Casey can go three rounds and then a re-match with Somerset. If they play Breathitt in round 2, I think the Rebels' lack of post season experience will give Breathitt the upper hand.

The only thing shocking about Casey County's season is that they lost to Wayne County on October 1. They have dominated most opponents up front all season and have averaged around 400 yards of offense all season. I knew the Rebels were going to beat Garrard County as soon as last year's game ended. Those boys were so close last year and after living a year with a two point loss to the Lions in '09, nothing was going to stop them this year. GO REBS!

The Lady Rebels need depth at guard to defend their 2008-09 Regional Title. The front line of Megan Pittman, Dezerae Harmon, BJ Hogue, and Nicole Coffman are more than adequate, but they will need someone to go with Jasmine Johnson in the backcourt.

Casey has won the game one time since 2000, which prevents this from being a good rivalry. It is a good money game for the athletic departments of both schools, but from a football perspective the Rebels are better served by playing an opponent with which they are more equally matched. :irked:

Lady Rebel Coach Randy Salyers says that McFarland is one of the fastest with the ball in her hands as he has coached in several years. She should be a great fit for the up tempo offense of the Lady Mountaineers. Congratulations K-Mac.

I will agree. I follow Casey and based on how they fared against the 12th, I considered it a down year. The Rebels had close losses to Danville, Southwestern, and West Jessamine while beating Pulaski, Monticello, Somerset, and Garrard. Considering that West eventually won the region and Garrard and Danville were touted as contenders, I thought the 12th was weak. As it turns out, McCreary, Lincoln, and West peaked at the right time and all three were playing pretty well by March. I was surprised to see West make it to the Final Four, but was pleased nonetheless. With all the youth in the 12th, 2009-10 should be much better.

Stephens is a great coach that does not get enough credit. He is the same guy that won seven games in 2002, the difference the last five years has been that he has not had players. He has finished several seasons with fewer than 25 players. If you look back over the past five seasons, they have lost several close games which means they have been competitive with understaffed teams. Things are looking good now with the numbers in the upper 30's to lower 40's.

Sam Harp has made a huge impact on high school football in this area. He is highly regarded by coaches from the surrounding counties and probably the entire state. He does a tremendous job at Danville and I was pleased to see that he is going to continue coaching. I predict that he will win another championship or two before he calls it quits completely.

Numbers are the best they have had in several years (since 2002). With 20 or so sophomores, they will be young again, but those will not be ordinary sophomores as several of them play varsity all last season. Casey will have a winning non-district record and could win at least two district games to get back to the playoffs. Coach Andy Stephens won school record seven games in 2002 and could break that record before the 2009 sophomores graduate.:thumb:

I am biased, but I agree with your assessment of Casey County. Coach Todd Carman will be in his third year and is doing a lot of little things to make the program better (weight lifting, improving feeder programs, etc.). The Rebels do lose Elliot Cannon and Josh Morgan, but will be solid if they play hard like they did last year. Several kids (Kyle and Brad Jeffries, Jordan Spagnoletti, and Jordan Ellison) have intangibles that don't show up in the boxscore. If this team can figure out how to score 60 per game, they will return to the regional tourney next year.:ylsuper:

I can't imagine he would quit now with the team he will have back. Looks like he would stay at least one more year even if he does step down in the near future.

Refs did stink, but it did not have a bearing on the outcome. Casey County has been one of the state's best kept secrets (until now). Many media outlets did not have them picked as the best team in their district (behind Rockcastle) or their region (behind Lincoln and Rockcastle.) Their run in the tournament is a testament to the quality of basketball in the 12th Region. Go Lady Rebs!:ylsuper:

I watched the two night games and came away with the impression that Southwestern, Rock, and Lincoln are as good or better than anyone I saw playing. I am not sure if people (around the state) understand how strong the top of the 12th Region is. Somerset could compete with Breathitt and Johnson Central and possibly beat both. :ylsuper:

i think i would hold that double digit talk....this should be an epic battle with the winner being the team that shoots the best at the line.
