Against Russell? You must keep in mind the quality of the competition. Ryle and NCC are just a bit better than Russell, don't you think? Elliott County can show up in the middle of the second quarter and still run away in this one. Again, you must keep in mind the quality of the competition.

The 9th Region features a powerhouse matchup. I'll be there for that one although I don't think I'll get back from Louisville in time for both of them.

No offense to Russell but I would imagine a few teams could do that. Certainly Scott County and Covington Holmes are two of them.

As long as they play the district at Ashland, Bob Kouns makes a cameo appearance to referee the first game (but is assigned elsewhere both before and after that game), and Ashland gets an obscene number of foul shots, they should prevail in the first round. However, I have been told by a knowledgeable source in that area that next year the district will be held at Boyd County, Kouns will be blackballed by one or more district coaches, and Ashland will be no better than second and probably third in the district. That will tend to test their "durability".

Of course not. I was at the 9th Region Tournament. However, in a tournament such as this, if there is a standout player on the winning team, particularly when that team dominates the tournament as did RC, he or she should get MVP and not one from the losing team unless his or her performance dwarfed the others. Griffith is a good player and had a good tournament, much because she was so much bigger than all the RC girls, but I believe Martin deserved the award. That's just my opinion. I feel sure that you were there. However, you, like most of those sitting around you, are less than open minded. You seem to see everything solely from deeply partisan eyes. You lost because RC was the superior team. Charlie Chappy and the other fine 9th Region referees didn't come to Morehead with an agenda. The best team won the tournament and we sent you a better crew of officials than you sent us.

Holmes but it could be close. Boone County is a fine team and would win many regions.

Why bash? You just win and move on. NCC is better than some teams that will be at Rupp Arena. They deserve credit for a gutsy performance. Boone County will be a tough game. After all, the 9th Region isn't one of those eastern Kentucky regions.

Ashland is, at their very best, mediocre. However, if Elliott County plays as lackadaisically as they did against Russell, they will only beat Ashland by 20 or so. If Elliott County comes out to take care of business, they can name the score. Still, the region, certainly including Ashland, is weak enough that Elliott County doesn't have to fire on very many cylinders to walk through the competition. Rupp Arena will be a bit different since there will be no other 16th Region teams there.

Good to hear. Baylor would not be a bad choice at all although being close to home at UC would have allowed his many fans to see him play. Waco is a little too far for me to make a down and back trip. Nonetheless, Holmes can be very proud.

Does anyone else see this thread as a set up for Elliott Countians to laud and applaud their own? Rather superficial at best. Still, I'll bite. Elliott County has two or three players worth watching- particularly in Morehead- and Coach Mays is a better coach than his neighbors seem to admit. He's also a congenial individual. He deserves to win. It isn't easy to coach such a carefully gathered accumulation of talent.

Boy. It sure took a lot to get an answer to a simple question concerning whether or not at least six of the Elliott County players had been held back. We had to put up with an Elliott Countian taking a cheap shot at academics at Holmes. We have been called, among other things, "tasteless" and "Elliott haters". All this just for asking a legitimate question. Man, you Elliott Countians sure can sing your song when all is positive and rosy but you seem to recoil when you don't want to answer a question that is a little challenging of your legend. I must admit that, when taken as a whole, you guys will deserve a goodly bit of sarcasm when you lose, which you obviously will, prior to Saturday at Rupp Arena. I am saying you will get there since the 16th Region is without peer as a weak region.

If you had provided it earlier, as your posters do in all the other Elliott County boasting sessions, I would have retired from this thread long ago. The truth is I had to hit the raw nerve to get an honest answer. Now. What about the Knipps?

No one in Covington or Georgetown is hiding anything. You are the guys who seemed "hesitant" to disclose the truth. As I said, no one sinned or committed a crime. Absolutely all of your boys who actually play were held back a year. It is just an interesting fact. :thumb:

When a team receives the limelight treatment as has Elliott County, people are interested in all the facts. And, we are talking about what really amounts to an entire team being held back and not just one of the "top 25 players". As I said before, no crime has been committed. Still, I believe the information is relevant. As for my sleep pattern, this situation doesn't effect it one way or the other since I still believe either of my favorites will beat Elliott County.

Excellent. Thank you for your somewhat candid response although, though you "can't speak for the rest of them", I'm sure you do know the answer to tezzyrice's question. Can we conclude that all of them were held back? I believe so. No one is condemning anyone. I just believe that, in light of all the information we have been inundated with about Elliott County, the fact that all were held back is relevant to the mix and to the "legend".

You still are not answering the question. Were the players held back somewhere along the line or were they not held back somewhere along the line? Has your daughter been in the same grade as the players all twelve years (1-12)? Tezzyrice's question is really honest and straight forward. Can't we get an honest and straight forward answer? It merely seeks information that would be interesting to those of us who aren't fully tied to the Elliott County legend. There is no punishment to anyone for a fully truthful answer.
