Update on former Holmes player Greg Rice

Featured Replies

Greg finished the regular season on the 28th. His team is currently ranked number #1 in D-2 JUCO. For the season he averaged 19.7 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 3.8 apg, 2.2 spg. He shot 57.1 from the floor, and 44.6 from three. He is also up for player of the year in his division. I will update and post if he wins the player of the year. Most likely he will.

He's had a great year. Any word on where he is thinking of going next year? I heard rumor that Baylor was looking at him. I would think that a lot of schools would show an interest.

Good to hear he's doing well.

It will probably be Baylor. He wanted UC or WV but it looks more and more like the Big 12. He has turned into a very nice two guard.[ Not bad for a 6'4 center in high school.]

Good to hear. Baylor would not be a bad choice at all although being close to home at UC would have allowed his many fans to see him play. Waco is a little too far for me to make a down and back trip.

Nonetheless, Holmes can be very proud.

That is great news... I always knew Rice could be a sick guard. His handle was real nice, just needed some nurturing. He found a great program that let him grow as a guard in Columbus State. I believe he may have had some early struggles, but busted out with a 26 point performance in the Championship game last season.

I think Austin Hill's Southeastern Illinois squad is ranked 2nd in the nation as well. Pretty cool stuff out of the men who paved the way for Holmes to be a state power again.

I can't wait to watch Greg Rice play some D-1 ball.

Actually as of Feb. 24 rankings Austin Hill's Southeastern Illinois College was ranked # 11 in the NJCAA Div I poll with a record of 23-3 and these were Austin's stats in 25 games played. These weren't too shabby either on a team that likes to play a lot of guys.

15.2 pts/game 47% FG 34% 3pt FG 75% FT

4.1 rebs/game

2.4 asts/game

.8 stls/game

Glad to hear Austin is doing very well and had a great season. I look forward to seeing him play at the D1 level somewhere next year.

I knew that Austin and Greg would both be fine after leaving Holmes and heading to there repsected JC's. Hopefully both of them latch on somewhere next year, which it sounds like they will and they can close there colligiate careers as well as they have started them.

Sounds like the JUCO plan really benefits both Austin and Greg. Rice was an unbelievable leaper who played above the rim in HS. I am wondering how a kid from the city is going to fit in though down at Baylor. That is a far cry from City Heights in CVG. I wish him the best and will be interested to see where Austin ends up.

Not sure if anything has changed, but I know when Austin came out of high school, Marquette was VERY interested in him and wanted him to keep them on his radar for when he graduated from JC.

Here is an update on the NJCAA Division II Regional
