Maxpreps actually has Scott Co. number 32 in the nation and Holmes number 65. A big part of the reason is that it is a CPU rated site and they have Scott Co. schedule rated 3 points higher than Holmes schedule. I don't think that it pays much attention to the fact that Holmes beat SC on a nuetral court pretty convincingly earlier this season.

I think that IF, IF Pittman continues to grow and get better as he has over the last year and a half he has a chance. He has unlimited potential, hard work in the classroom, on the tests (sat or act) and hard work on the court he is definately capable.

No, they are not close to the greatest team ever, they aren't even close to the best team in the country this year, but as of January 29th 2009 they are the best team in Kentucky. That is what people are looking at. They don't have to play Oak Hill, Findley, Chirst or any of the other top tier schools to bring home the hardwood. I am sure the goals from the coaching staff went like this, win the district, win the region, win state title, just like every other school in the state. I don't think any school in the state said "hey lets get nationally ranked this year or we didn't do our job." But when that comes it is a great accomplishment. Also, being the best team or the 50th best team in state of Kentucky right now doesn't even matter. Being first doesn't matter until the 8pm game is final on Sunday March 21st. But that doesn't mean toss jabs at them now because they are getting a little time in the national spotlight. Let them enjoy the recognition for the time being and we will settle the rest in March. :ylsuper:

Some schools are powerhouse year in and year out, but every now and then a new kid has to win ha ha. Honestly do I think Holmes would beat Oak Hill? No. But would I love to see them play against any team on this top 25? yes. Just to be given that chance to beat a school like Oak Hill or Christ, or Findley would bring out the best in just about anyone, ask the Princeton Vikings.

The newest prepnation.com national poll is out and it has Cov. Holmes rated number 20 in the country (up 4 spots from last week) and number 5 in the midwest (up 1 spot from last week) :ylsuper:. I know national polls are hard to rate because of the ammount of schools that play but I still think it is nice to see them getting recognition on a national level. It will be tommorow at Holmes as of right now. Covington schools are already closed tommorow so I dunno for sure.

I like ballard, I like there style of play. I have seen them play twice and they are a very solid team. If they are hitting from outside they can be very very tough to beat.

I hope they play. This should be a interesting game, but I think Boone should be able to pull it out by 8-10 points once the dust settles.

I agree with this, Elliot Co may have a little beef with it but I think this is the most accurate poll I have seen in a while. All "A" should be a dandy.

I don't think we are questioning who is going to win this game but its not a lost cause for both programs in my opinion. From Cooper's point of view you have an opprotunity at this very young stage of your program to get a chance to play the number 1 team in the state. That is big for a young team and Hopefully they can get something out of this opprotunity. This is the best team they are going to see hands down all year. Holmes IMO needs to start there regular guys and play at least one half as they normally would. We seen in the Largo game they struggled giving up second chance shots, vs Ryle they struggled with turning the ball over (traveling), ticky tack fouls due to not moving there feet on D, and making poor decisions with shot selection. At this point of the year, a game like this lets you get back to the fundementals and correct those things before heading into the home stretch and that is what Holmes needs to take out of this game.

Agreed :thumb: I like the talk honestly, I think not only does it frustrate the other players, it puts him in a position to where he feels he has to play to a certain level. I think it is motivation for him.

Agreed, and I love that about him honestly lol. Talking isn't against the rules, if you can legally get in your opponets head, by all means talk it up. But make sure you can back it up and this kid can. When Stauffer got frustrated :madman: and the game got stopped for a bit so the refs and his teammates could calm him down, if you paid attention a ref also spoke with Pittman. Once everything was calm Pittman was right back over in his ear talking again under the watchful eye of the officials :eyeonyou: and no whistle was blown so it couldn't have been that bad. I like his style, he confident, cocky, lets his opponent know about it, and backs it all up. I love it. :ylsuper:

I agree, and I understand that. Nobody is going to be perfect and I expect them to struggle at times. But you can't walk out of every game and say everything was great. You have to find the weakness and coach to those points which I am sure Henley will do. That was just some of the things I think he could coach too.

You don't expect them to be lazy but you deal with that at practice when you see it. You don't expect silly fouls, but you deal with it when they occur, and there are coaches that know in advance he has players that will take some bad shots here and there, that just high school basketball. You address it when it occurs as Henley did tonight.

Bad shots are all to common and almost expected now instead of an excuse. Coach Henley is even pulling guys now for bad decisions when shooting the ball now it has become so common. I seen Pittman get pulled at one point this game because of a bad 3-point attemt. Foul trouble occurs in basketball, is Holmes deep enough to deal with it? Obviously not if we are making excuses and that could haunt them in March if it is the truth. JJ and Rico missed time in the second, the end of the 3rd and the first 4 minutes of the 4th. However the end of the 3rd and start of the 4th is when Holmes began to pull away so I can't use that as an excuse. At halftime it became clear that this would be a lot closer than people expected, and regardless of the final score it really was. If Holmes can play 32 complete minutes they would be scary but they still seem to lose focus at times, play a little lazy, or get out of control and turn the ball over and/or committ silly fouls which they can't afford. Still a W however so you can be happy that the win was preserved, however the style in which it came in can and should be questioned IMO.

This game was close for a lot longer than Holmes fans wanted it to be. I believe it was a 5 point game at half and just as much as people were talking about Pittman's ally-oop they were talking about how shocked they were that it was as close as it was. Holmes really didn't begin pulling away until the last minute or so of the third and the game still was sort of hanging in the balance then.
