Good point. You had to be there to make an accurate asessment. It was the consensus each week in the stands and on the ground that Thompson was not making good football decisions to allow the Rebels to win. I agree Thompson is a good coach, but a good coach needs to break norm and make good decisions when needed. A major problem was refusing to play some key players on both sides of the ball, piling up the offense and leaving some soft spots on the defense. Boone was in several games for the first half and failed to do what most coaches will automatically do and prepare for second adjustments. You simply can't do the same thing for 4 quarters straight week after week and expect to win many games. It's hard to stop an opponent when your offense can't control the ball because they continiously go 3 and out.

Not really sure on what your stand is on the topic as far as replacing Thompson, but Boone definitely needs to change what they do in order to compete in 6A. With the widespread of new schools, no one school will have a dominate team of athletes, so it's the coaches job to take the athletes that he has and develope a successful program. If that means changing your 99% run scheme that is beyond the point of predictable, then as a head coach swallow your pride, use your coaching staff and produce a system that exploits the talent of your dominant players. I agree, Boone had all the tangibles that you mentioned, but they simply weren't utilized properly, and a few were on the field in positions that they probably shouldn't have been. Nky teams are beating the Louisville big teams, they're just not able to beat the Louisville private school big teams. How many Boone games did you attend this year? Just curious as to what you saw each game.

Not able to attend, but I hear Boone looks good all around. Maybe someone that was there will chime in later, I don't want to give a biased opinion.

Scrimmage starts at 5:30 at Boone. As for guessing how deep and who see's action, there's possibly Burgess, Fookes, Botang, the new kid, I'm not really sure who will productively hit the floor first.

The football team finishing early was a bonus for the basketball program because the football players are able to get an early start this year in getting their basketball legs. Boone has a scrimmage against an "athletic" Colerain team (I guess that description depends on who's looking at them), and that should be a good challenge for them to start with.

Not totally sure, but I do believe they run the same system from freshman level up.

I believe in the first meeting Elliot was not 100% due to the hit he took the previous week. Seeing this kids desire to win, I'm betting for him to have a big statement game this Friday night, and the Raiders getting the victory on their home turf.

Can we get some positive output from members about the expectations of Boone for 2010/2011? Regardless of what some people think, i'm sure this team will go out each night and fill a gym with some athletic high school basketball players and have a decent season. I look forward to seeing the new additions to the team, and how they mix in with the Greg's style of play. This is a complete team of players that have won the past freshman, and JV championshps. I know someone will say that doesn't mean anything, but it has to say something about the ability/chemistry of this years group.

You are correct Brown is not a leaper, but is quicker at his position than you think. J Oppenheimer is not a leaper, but is athletic. Maybe it should be termed "basketball athletic" It's all an individuals opinion and these kids could probably care less about them. What does count is what the coaches at the next level think. Back on topic.........does Boone's depth benefit them better this year than the last?

IMO Downs came on strong last year when Boone had two seniors suddenly quit the team. I'm sure he has been working on his strength and basketball game since then and will be able to handle his own. He may not be a Mike Gabbard (that's why his name Cooper Downs), and if he just plays his game and can be himself, he'll be fine.

T. Brown not considered athletic to you....that's a joke in itself. I guess everyone has their own definition of what athletic is and it's all good, no hard feelings or sensitivity here.

I've learned that you have your own negative opinion on most of the Boone athletes, so I won't bother to dispute anything you say. But, if you think Brown, Montgomery, Downs, Stanley and a few others aren't athletic, then what is your "opinion" of athletic.

Maybe not a VERY quick bunch, but it is a big, strong and athletic line up.

IMO Boone needs to realize which players provide the productive\energetic spark, keep them on the court, and finish teams when they are ahead and not go into their method of not attacking the basket and letting teams back into the game once they get big leads. Other than that, not much to improve on compared to last year that visible yet.

Mud effects the run gam and the passing game. I don't remember ever being able to plant and cut effectively on a muddy playing field. Rain will produce wet/slick footballs, and a slicker playing surface even if it is turf which will make it a bit harder for receivers to stick their routes, and if it rains hard enough during the game, vision of receivers could also be effected. A good rain would hamper both teams, but HC would have an edge because they have a more efficient run game to rely on in these conditions, and IMO a stronger defense.

Yes, if it rains... Conner is in deep trouble because they have no threat in the run game.

You are correct......... Boone made it to the final four, not the finals in 04 and 07. Lost to Scott County in 04 and Trinity in 07.

75center, you have to understand that the bragging is being done by those who don't know and respect the game. I'm sure the real SK football competent fans know that they fall shortly behind Ryle and Trinity as a favorite to win state. The Trinity program is a complete football machine that most NKY schools can't touch at this point, and that's why even the biggest NKY fan of their own team should favor them for the state title.
