  1. Beechwood played very solid. The Johnson girl had an unbelievable first quarter and was very impressive throughout. Too many turnovers for Dixie and excellent free throw shooting down the stretch by Beechwood kept Dixie from being able to make a run. Tibbs was tough inside for Dixie. (25 points and 11 rebounds)
  2. I saw the 10th region posted. Wondering if anyone has the rankings for the 9th region. (Teams and players)
  3. Tara Smith has done a good job rebuilding the last two years. They return 4/5 starters and will be strong inside. A lot will depend on the development of their young point guard. They have some good young talent that will need to develop and come off the bench.
  4. I attended the awards banquet today. 200+ people in attendance at the Drees Pavilion. A very nice afternoon for all of the girls honored. I was glad that the Notre Dame girls and coaches were in attendance after representing N. KY. so well.
  5. I really think these are the two best teams. NDA has been on a mission the last month of the season. I think they have too much on both ends of the floor and they are executing at a premium level on both ends of the floor. Should be a good game.
  6. Notre Dame is so well coached. They make the extra pass. They are solid on defense and in the right spot. They are not flashy, but play very, very good team basketball. One adjustment that I thought was key to getting Voskuhl more involved was moving her inside to start the half. Boone had no one to match up with her inside. I think she scored NDA's first 8 points of the second half and really got NDA going.
  7. Final from the other side of the bracket in the 34th district at Ludlow. Lloyd played a very deliberate pace and stayed close. Dixie hung tough and hit big shots down the stretch. Malone for Dixie did a great defensive job all night and held the Rudd girl from Lloyd to 5-6 points. Tibbs led Dixie with 10 points and 9 boards.
  8. No. Short bench mainly due to injuries. One starter out for the season and a key reserve just back tonight. Boone wants to play at a fanatic pace and they finally got it there in the fourth quarter.
  9. Dixie led at the end of 3 quarters and was up by as many as 13 in the 3rd quarter. Boone really turned the heat up in the 4th and made a huge come back. They held a big advantage from the FT line. Dixie battled and was within 5 with 2 minutes to go but just ran out of gas. On to districts.
  10. Final from Edgewood. Tibbs and Diamon had 20 points each and both recorded double digit rebounds. Down 3 at halftime, the Lady Colonels controlled tempo and had a nice second half.
  11. Close game thoughout. Dixie played much harder in their games against Holmes and Cooper but could not get over the hump. By the way, Dixie's big girl (Tibbs) had 18 points vs Cooper and 17 vs. Holmes and played very well.
  12. Dixie should be improved this year. They are very young with only one senior playing a major role and that is a key role at point guard. Sophomores and juniors fill the other key roles. Their inside game came on at the end of last year with Dimond and Tibbs leading them in the district tournament. Need a consistent shooter to step up so Tibbs and Dimond inside get more one on one opportunities. Coach Smith has done a nice job working with them over the summer and the preseason this fall.
  13. I think there is some talent in the pipeline, but they are young. Hopefully they can build with this youth.
  14. Due to the resignation of the coach at Cooper, their team camp was going to be cancelled. Beechwood stepped in and is hosting the camp this week. Games start at 5:30 and run through 9:30. Teams include: holy cross, Dixie, gallatin co, villa, Scott, and Conner. Ran very smoothly tonight. Really appreciate beechwood stepping in. We were really scampering to find replacement games.
  15. Thanks Panda. GREAT pictures as always. Thanks for sharing. We really appreciate it. It will be fun to share these with Lauren. We are visiting this weekend and going to the UConn game tomorrow. She will love seeing her little sister in action.
  16. Congrats to St. Henry. Six point game with 5-6 minutes left. Dixie had battled back after being down 12 at halftime. Dixie had key turnovers down the stretch and St. Henry was lights out from the free throw line. Difference in the game. St. Henry had very balanced scoring. Tibbs led Dixie with 14.
  17. I am still getting used to that as well. She is just a freshman so I am sure it will grow on me over the next three years.
  18. Congratulations to the Lady Colonels on their come from behind victory last night in the 34th district semis. They were down 46-40 and finished the game on a 9-0 run to win the game. Hartfiel hit a 3 to cut it three. Tibbs scored down low to cut it to 1 and Malone hit 4 straight free throws down the stretch to ice it. Tibbs led the Colonels with 17 points and 9 rebounds while Diamon had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Great team effort. Congrats on getting to the district finals and earning a regional birth. Good luck Thursday vs. St. Henry.
  19. Dixie has to find a way to overcome the diamond and one Villa has used on Hartfiel. Junk defenses force other players to step up. If others can step up and help Hartfiel, Dixie might have a chance.
  20. Had a great preseason and was the first player off the bench. They discovered a stress fracture in her shin after the first regular season game. They shut her down to rehab and heal. They decided to red shirt her in the last week because she is still a few weeks away from being full strength. Want to save the year of eligibility. Really frustrating because she has been injury free her entire career. The important thing is she will fully recover. She is working out like a demon in the weight room and hopes to be back in practice full speed in a few weeks.
  21. It will be interesting to see this year. There is potential. They are very young in spots. Stinson inside will be a key as will finding a consistent shooter and point guard. There are some young players who could fill those roles.
  22. 3-4 seniors who should be key contributors. My youngest daughter attending there this year as a freshman and playing basketball. She played last year as an 8th grader so my posts will be in a little different place for the next four years.
  23. It will be interesting to see what Coach Smith can do with a pretty talented core group of returnees and the young talent up and coming.
  24. Northern Kentucky was well represented today at the LaRosa's Hall of Fame banquet. Three of the six female finalists were from N. KY. (Anna Carrigan, Track and Field from Campbell Co., Ellen Williamson, Swimming from Notre Dame and Lauren Tibbs, Basketball/Volleyball from Scott HS). I know the first two were not basketball players, but certainly deserve the recognition. Ellen was selected as the female athlete of the year. Very proud of Lauren for a final reminder of her great career before she leaves for Marquette on Friday. The next leg of your journey begins then. Coach Nell Fookes was inducted into the hall of fame and gave a wonderful acceptance speech. Well deserved recognition for a fabulous coaching career.
  25. Any updates on how these games went. Particularly interested in how Scott HS did.
