you are not breaking any KHSAA rules by "recruiting" kids who have not yet started high school. You can argue the morality of it, but the KHSAA has no rule against.

it's the coaches vote they use I am pretty sure.... But I think this poll shows that after the top few teams...nobody knows what's going to happen. Just my opinion though, Sacred Heart is way to low. They are a top 5 team in the state.

That doesn't seem very fair. 3 of his top 6 teams and 4 of his top 10 players are from the 32nd. Gallatin and Bowen probably think they deserve to be on this list...and maybe they do...but we will get a whole season to sort all of that out.

Kids can transfer schools for academics...or different arts programs....but when a kid leaves for sports everyone gets upset. I don't understand the double standard...some kids ticket to college education is academic success...some in the arts....but some are through athletics. I cannot fault a kid/parent for wanting to better their chances of securing partial or full rides to college through sports. Yes...a lot of the "recruiting" process takes place through summer ball for D1 and D2 players but the high school program takes a vital role in developing those kids to the point where they are attractive to those schools. Also, your lower level schools (NAIA and D3 schools) will recruit through the high schools. Several kids fall short of the D1 or D2 label and simply need to be in a better situation at the high school level to get noticed. The bottom line is that some places do this better then others, and I find it hard to blame kids and parents for wanting to better their situation.

Male could probably have a few more on this list. They are loaded. Sacred Heart picked up an incoming Freshman that played with Butler last year who can really play (who could also be on this list ha). Those two look to be shaping up as the class of the 7th.

If you can't tell the difference in a man to man and a zone then either A. you are clueless when it comes to X's and O's or B. The offensive team attacking is doing a horrible job of making the defense move. I am talking about teaching defensive fundamentals. I don't care what "defense" you think is best...the best defensive players all know how to contain and/or pressure the ball, play off the ball with correct spacing and technique, help and close out on shooters, defend on ball and off ball screens, rebound etc. I could go on. Gimmick defense that allows players to bypass any of the techniques above is NOT helping them as they get older. I have seen girls teams at a young level run zone presses with 5 players on the backcourt, simply because the offensive team doesn't have the ability to throw over the zone yet. You see numerous teams run various half court and full court presses that would NEVER work as the kids get older/stronger and more skilled. These things are great for wins at a young age, but don't translate as they get older. And don't tell me that teams have to play zone because "they don't have the quickness to guard man to man." You don't have to have elite quickness or agility to guard someone man to man...you just simply have to know HOW to guard them. But it's easier to teach a 5th grade girl where to stand in a 2-3 zone then it is to teach her proper footwork and technique to guard someone quicker in a man to man defense. When that girl gets older, and she still doesn't know how to guard someone the coach will put her on the bench. And it doesn't matter if that coach likes to play "zone" or "man", they still have to have players that play with strong defensive technique and fundamentals.

Any team that uses a gimmick or zone defense as its primary defense at a young age is doing every player on his/her team a huge disservice.

Actually, a question was posed asking "where are all the teams from lex/Lou and east/west ky." The post even said there was only 4 teams in the state aau for their age...and that they were all from NKY. For whatever reason, teams and players from other regions of the state seem to have quit playing in this event. That was my point. Someone else decided to throw in that premier was "not competitive" at this age level.

if your daughter is good enough to play division one basketball you would be crazy not to look at getting her involved with Kentucky Premier. The exposure they get to college coaches is 2nd to nobody.

Im going to guess that Deja Turner was invited and had to decline (like robinson). I have nothing to confirm that, but I am guessing that is what happened. Seems more reasonable then a super top secret plan to block all things Northern Kentucky.

Simon Kenton will be the unanimous favorite I would think... followed by a large pack of teams. Anderson Collins Shelby Trimble Walton All could claim #1 contender status by regional tournament time

I was making more of a generalized statement that most of the top talent doesn't play in the actual AAU sponsored events anymore....at least in Kentucky. In fairness, that's probably more true as they get older and start playing in the premier exposure events. It's hard to make any sweeping revelations about different classes of girls until they start actually competing at the high school level...simply because participation in these events seems limited to pockets of the same kids from around the same area. That's not to say there aren't several of those girls who are going to become great players....just that it's hard to compare until they actually start competing at the high school level.

Could be an issue with dates and the start of school for her....I know some have had issues with that in the past. Cant imagine she wasn't selected.

This roster appears to lack a true PG but has a ton of size. Probably one of the biggest teams Kentucky has ever had.

Surprised the State Champs aren't represented.

The best players/teams in the state don't normally play in this event.

this is based on coaches votes. I would say most of the 10th region coaches didn't vote, so those players just outside the all-state level in that region probably wouldn't be on out of region coaches ballots.

Just like the voting for miss basketball, all is done before postseason begins. Whether or not that's the best way to do it is debatable.
