  1. I was at the game and anybody that's watched these teams play against each other the past few years.............ugly basketball is what this rivalry was built on. Both teams are well coached and so familiar with each other, they know the game-plan. I actually thought the officials were pretty solid, in my opinion, when teams combine to score 69 points they have way too many other things to worry about. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way!
  2. I think Jeff Griffith would be an excellent choice, his defense is usually one of the best in the state, plus he knows the area well having been an assistant at Bowling Green and Greenwood. Would his Purples' loyalty allow him to change?? Money usually talks, but he left Wayne County when he was one of the higher paid coaches in that part of the state, so I guess we'll see how this plays out.
  3. Harlan County has a nice team and a couple quality wins over Middlesboro and Somerset. Wayne County has a pretty nice team with quality wins over Pulaski County and Taylor County.......so I'm going with the home team 33-27. Looking forward to what should be one of the better first round match-ups, as both teams own 7-3 records.
  4. Wayne Co takes #1 seed if they beat Monroe Co, or if Pulaski Co wins (7 points) and Campbellsville loses to Glasgow (that hurts Taylor Co), or an upset win by Clinton Co, Russell Co is open, so they are worth 4 points. Taylor takes the #1 seed if they beat Caverna and Wayne Co loses to Monroe, or if Wayne loses and Campbellsville beats Glasgow, or Hart Co upsets Grayson Co...if tiebreaker points are equal Wayne wins head to head. Somerset is almost assured the 3 seed they could win and get a Metcalfe Co win and still have just 11 points. Garrard County is the #4 seed that is certain! I believe this is correct, or that is what has been projected on radio.
  5. Any guy that can win 7 at Berea should be considered, Petett @ Monroe Co in 2a, how about Thompson at Wayne Co, he's already the school's all-time wins leader and the program is sharing their first district title in the 40th year of varsity football, Dudley @ Bell Co and Ed Smart at Grayson Co, those are guys that all deserve seriious attention!
  6. Wayne did what they needed to do, have a convincing 49-12 lead and empty the bench! Clinton moved the ball pretty decent, the Durham brothers are a nice duo. Wayne has now won 5 in a row and needs a big win next week at home against Monroe, the Cards also improved to 5-0 all-time against the Bulldogs. I was impressed with Clinton Co's facilites and Wayne's crowd was excellent for a cold night! Good Luck to the Dawga next week in TN, the Cards could use another tiebreaker point!
  7. Monroe County @ Wayne next Friday night, it should be a really good one! Monroe is favored in both power ratings, but Wayne is at home and needs a win. The teams are a combined 15-3, so this should be an excellent game.....Wayne needs it bad for tiebreaker and to clinch the #1 seed, hopefully Pettet will rest those starters and prepare for his opening round playoff game, I know that won't happen! Always a good game and festive atmosphere, just wish some of those Falcons would bring up some of that 1 of a kind BBQ.......well looking forward to the game and hopefully both teams will play hard with 0 injuries! The Cardinal is my bird of choice, but I like the Falcons when Wayne is not involved! Good luck to both squads!
  8. I thought this was a pickem type game and it sounds like it was all that and then some! Good out of class game for both teams this late in the regular season! Good luck to both teams the rest of the way!
  9. Yes Wayne won regular season 25-20 at Garrard and then lost at home 21-14 in last year's opening round.
  10. Wayne County won the yardage battle 314-206, led by the 27 carries and 162 yards of D.J. Hall. The talented junior scored 4 TD's while the Cards rushed for 283 yards as a team on 45 attempts. Garrard managed a 70 yard TD run by Tyler Ray, but the team finished with 30 carries for just 66 total, 29 carries for -4 the big story of the contest. Both teams were sloppy at times, but the Cards notch their 4th straight win to improve to 6-2 and even the all-time series at 9-9. Garrard drops to 3-5 with a home date with Pendleton Co next week. wayne is @ Clinton County Thurs night...good luck to both teams the rest of the way!
  11. The actual all-time record is Garrard owns a 9-8 series advantage as this Friday's game will be the 18th meeting between the 2 schools. The scores are correct, but they've only played 17 times, but other than last year's playoff game, NONE bigger than this for either team! Garrard County has lots of talent at the skill spots, but still no quality wins, while Wayne has a nice offense and is coming off their biggest non-district win possibly ever. All that means nothing come Friday night, but I do like the Cards in a close one!
