Wayne County 33 Garrard County 12

Featured Replies

Disappointing for Garrard County. The play before halftime to cut the defecit to nine was big, but as has been the case all season, the Lions just can't do anything in the third quarter. Two poor drives to start the second half, along with an absurd decision to punt from the opponent 32 marked the beginning of the end.

For Garrard to become a better team/program, they have to tackle better. This has been a problem since Perry/Hester left. I see signs of improvement, but there is still a ways to go.

Alas, a trip to Breathitt County beckons in three weeks. The Lions have never been to Jackson and this likely won't be a memorable trip, but we'll see! Nobody expected Garrard to win at Newport in 1999.:thumb:

The score at the half was big. Wayne ran the ball very well tonight. Hall gave Garrard fits running. Maybe we will get some stats from Boom Time.

Big win for Wayne tonight over a good Garrard team.

Wayne County won the yardage battle 314-206, led by the 27 carries and 162 yards of D.J. Hall. The talented junior scored 4 TD's while the Cards rushed for 283 yards as a team on 45 attempts. Garrard managed a 70 yard TD run by Tyler Ray, but the team finished with 30 carries for just 66 total, 29 carries for -4 the big story of the contest. Both teams were sloppy at times, but the Cards notch their 4th straight win to improve to 6-2 and even the all-time series at 9-9. Garrard drops to 3-5 with a home date with Pendleton Co next week. wayne is @ Clinton County Thurs night...good luck to both teams the rest of the way!

Didn't Garrard beat Wayne in the 1st round last year?

Yes Wayne won regular season 25-20 at Garrard and then lost at home 21-14 in last year's opening round.

People need to understand that Perry is no longer at Garrard. The days of playing ( Kentucky Country Day, Clay Co ,Owen Co, Carroll Co , Henry Co, Campbellsville are over!!! ):thumb: Hard not to Tackle these teams..

You're right about that. Certainly the schedule is tougher. But to me the players don't seem as strong, as physical, as tough - heck, not even as tall - as they did under Perry and Hester. These kids have to absolutely live in the weight room to get better. Hopefully the are.

Also, some of those teams were annually easy pickings for the Golden Lions. But here are some other teams Garrard beat during those years:

Bardstown, Beechwood, Boyle County, Estill County, Green County, Harrodsburg, Lexington Catholic, Lincoln County, Madison Southern, Marion County, Monroe County, Newport, Newport Central Catholic, Paris, Russell County, Russellville, Shelby County, Washington County

The new coaching staff has to be given some time to get things going again at Garrard County. Plus, there has been absolutely no defensive coaching the last couple of years at Garrard County. These kids have some bad habits that the new coaching staff will have to get them out of for the defense to improve. Also, the number of kids playing needs to go up to be successful at a 3A school.

The biggest thing they need is more players. There are enough kids in the building to dress 45+ players. If they can do that, depth would develop and the players wouldn't wear down. And then we will be looking at a pretty nice team.

Sounds to me like there is some inside information here. What are the bad habits?? Did garrard only practice on the Off's days.. Get off the last couple of years its over. But didn't Garrard beat Taylor / Wanye last year and will end the year with more wins with abunch of Soph.. :thumb:

The bad habits are arm tackling, improper tackling technique and not keeping their feet moving on contact, which I think reflects prior defensive coaching since most of the starters are Juniors, not Sophmores.

Also, they beat Taylor in overtime by 1 because they missed a extra point, but Chris Thomas, I believe ran for 300 or more yards in the game.

Wayne County beat them by 5 the last game of the year and Garrard beat them by 7 the next week in the playoffs.

Defense win championships!!!!

And how many Regional championships does Garrard out 44 years of football? ( 0 ) I guess none of the coaches knew nothing about Defense over the years. :thumb:
