  1. As retired mentioned; how well WH does in 2009 will also depend upon continued effort, work ethic, and heart. The pieces are there to have a great season and expectations will be much higher, but the kids can not start to read too many press clippings! A good sign is the number of players attending off-season weight lifiting and conditioning. Many more players in attendance, and strength/speed numbers are better. This senior class took their lumps as Soph, now is their time to mature and have success. ColonelMike, we look forward to hosting North Oldham this year and trying to duplicate their success in 2008!!
  2. Western Hills had one of the most successful seasons in school history in 2008, and lost only 4 seniors from that team. The offense will start with QB Dylan Curry (6'6" 255 lbs) who passed for over 1500 yards and 10 TDs last season. Also returning is WH leading rusher Justin Wright (5'11" 200 lbs with 611 yards and 7 TDs) and 4 starters off of the offensive line. WH must replace 3 of its top receivers, but does have experienced young talent coming up. The defense returns 8 starters led by LB Arie Slone (6'2" 205 lbs with 116 tackles in 2008) and Wright. The defensive front returns almost intact. Hills must replace 2 defensive backs, but the top 4 reserves from last season returns. Hills made a huge leap forward last season, and should contend for its first ever district and regional championships. Another important factor is the increase in numbers. There has been between 30-35 at Spring practices, with another 10-15 expected after other Spring sports. Also have a class of 20+ freshmen expected. With continued commitment in the weight room and running program; this should be a deep, experienced, and senior lead team.
  3. Western Hills has all the parts to be a good basketball team - two quick guards that handle the ball well, a smooth/high schoring small forward (6'3"), a athletic and long power forward (6'4") and a big/physical center (6'7"). Just do not always seem to play as a team. As CoachBuckett mentioned, play well when listen to the coach and play as a team (not 5 individual parts). Hills has the atheltic ability to play with Franklin Co., but must rebound and play team defense. Hills is a better than their record would indicate.
  4. My son (a LB for Western Hills) saw Quan around Frankfort last week and said Quan looks even more muscular than last season! Hills plays some good backs last season, but my son said none as tough to tackle as Quan - can run by you or try to run thru you. Quan and Tillman give FHS a great ground/air combination.
  5. Arie Slone from Western Hills (Frankfort) had a great Soph season at LB and should get better with an off season in the weight room. Slone has good size (6'2" and 200 lbs, but a frame to put on 20-30 more pounds)and a very good football IQ. Also exhibited toughness last season playing the entire season with a cast after breaking his thumb then his forefinger (which resulted in surgery to place 3 screws and a pin), but did not miss a play. Had 116 total tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 1 fumble recovery and 1 INT as a Soph.
  6. Dylan Curry from Western Hills (Frankfort) has the tools to have a great season. He is 6'6" and with a active off-season in the weight room has grown to around 250 lbs. He also runs well for his size (in the 4.7 range). Is a QB in high school, but projected as a TE in college. Getting serious looks from schools such as UK, Purdue, Duke, etc. Threw for over 1500 yards and 10 TD last season. Also played DE and was the Long Snapper on punts.
  7. Western Hills will have the most returning starters in the district and did play NO to the wire last year, but this might be the most competative 3A district in the state. Western Hills looks to have the type of year NO had last season with another year of experience and in the weight room for a talented Junior class. Still do not understand the fake punt in last years game either! Hard to fool a team when the player lined up to "punt" had surgery the previous week to put screws in a broken finger and hand is entirely casted. The WH kid (#7) showed a lot of toughness and had a good game (12 tackles and a sack); but wrong kid to line up in that situation. Look forward to a great matchup with NO at the Hills this season.
  8. Western Hills in Frankfort had a big turn around in 2008. From 1-10 in 2007 to 6-4 in 2008 (beating 4A schools Franklin Co, West Jessamine, and East Jessamine; as well as 5A schools Grant Co and Anderson Co). They were within 10 points of winning their first district title and hosting a play-off game. Should continue their improvement with only 4 seniors on the 2008 team.
  9. Dylan Curry (QB/DE) at Western Hills (Frankfort) has all the tools. He is 6'6" and 230 lbs. and runs a 4.7-4.8.
  10. Dylan Curry (QB/DE) at Western Hills (Frankfort) is being recruited by several D I schools (UK, UL, Duke, Purdue). Most schools recruiting him as a TE, I think. He is 6'6", 235 lbs and a great frame to add 20-30 more pounds. Not sure of his bench/squat, but runs in the 4.7-4.8 range.
  11. Linebacker for Western Hills - #7. Has decent size (listed at 6'2", 195 lbs - but good frame to add 20-30 lbs) and good instincts. Is a tough and hard-nosed kid. He broke his thumb (1st game) and shattered his forefinger (3rd game), had to have screws and a pin to stablize shattered finger; but did not miss a game. Played entire season with left hand in a cast. Had over 100 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 2 INT and 3 fumble recoveries.
  12. To win this game North Oldham needs to run the ball to keep it away from E-town's offense and score first. North Oldham is very disciplined and plays hard, but will not be able to play from behind well against E-towns passing attack. E-town picked apart a good Western Hills defense last week, but also gave up over 350 yards on defense. After seeing both teams in person - E-town 42, North Oldham 24.
  13. Lafayette showed little class the week before in a win over 3A Western Hills. Layfayette scored three TDs, but 2 of the scoring drives were under 20 yards (14 and 17 yards). Up 21-0 in the 4th quarter, Lafayette ran a fake punt and tried to score again to pad their margin of victory. It was Western Hills' Senior Night and the coaches from Lafayette allowed their team to conduct kick off drills into the Senior Night ceremony. After the game the Lafayette players did the throat slashing motion to the Western Hills' student section and asked the Western Hills's players how they liked getting their "butts" kicked. Can not believe they jumped on the "T" the next week!!
  14. This will be a very difficult match-up for Western Hills, however it is also a "trap" game for Elizabethtown. Western Hills is much improved and a could be a difficult first round game for E-town. Hills LBs are very good and physical, which could slow down E-towns WRs enough to help the DBs and generate a pass rush. Hills offense re-established its identity some last week. E-town will get its passing yards, but Hills must limit big plays and touchdowns. If this happens: Western Hills 28, E-town 24. If E-town can turn most of its passing yards into scores: E-town 36, Western Hills 24.
  15. Western Hills has a good looking Soph MLB. Arie Slone is 6'2" and around 200lbs with a frame to put on 25-30 more pounds. Is the leading tackler on a good defense and has good ball instincts. Broke his thumb on the first play of the season and did not miss a play; then broke his finger on same hand while in cast. Had screws and pin put in and played the same week (and had 9 tackles, a sack, and fumble recover that week).
  16. Hills has played well on defense and the offense is starting to play much better. Against Frankfort, 3 kick returns for TDs was the difference in the game. Defense held Weaver to 100 yards (79 on one play) and offense moved the ball well all game. Going to be a great game for the district title. Hills wins a close game (as all games in this district have been) 28-21.
  17. The Spencer Co. loss was after Curry was ejected, so offense was very limited for Hills (and still had over 400 yards, but 5 turnovers). Hills is more physical and much quicker than given credit for. Will be a great game. Hills ranks in the top 12 in state in rush defense, while Frankfort runs the ball well. Hills wins county championsip 27-21.
  18. Hills is havng a great season thus far. They have played well on defense and the kids are starting to understand and execute the new "Jet" offense. The offensive line and defensive front seven are doing well - allowing the skill players to make plays. The rest of the scehdule is daunting, but the kids from Hills believe in the coaching staff and their ability to win any game. Believe that the most wins in school history is 6.
  19. Western Hills has four tough games to end the season, so the schedule does not get any easier. They have played a 5A school and three 4A schools thus far; then play Frankfort High (#6 in 1A), North Oldahm (#8 in 3A), Lafayette (5-2 in 6A), and Anderson Co (#7 in 5A). Maybe the most impressive part of Western Hills' season is the win total with their schedule.
  20. Curry is being actively recruited by several D-I schools. He has the size (6'6" and 230 lbs), arm strength and speed to be a D-I player. Also plays DE and long snaps. Showed GREAT leadership against Henry County and played his best game to date.
  21. Was a great high school game!! The defenses played well despite the score. Very hard hitting, but both teams made plays on offense. Curry had his best game to date, and offensive line gave him time to look downfield. If Hills can throw the ball this well the rest of the season - with good running attack and tough defense, Hills could make a run in the play-offs.
  22. Both teams played hard and it was a game with huge shifts in momentum. Dylan Curry had a HUGE game for Hills. Threw and ran the ball well and showed great leadership to bring Hills back. Hills is a much improved team and playing better each week. Great game in a few weeks between Hills and Noth Oldham.
  23. Hills has done a good job running the ball the last 3 weeks and should open up the passing attack with Curry back. Defense has also been good for Hills. Henry County has crushed lesser teams, but lost only real test against North Oldham. Henry County is a good team, but Western Hills wins a close game - 24-21.
  24. The LBs for Hills have been very good most of the season. They have speed on the outside (Bell #13 and Wright #40) and size in the middle (Slone #7 and Polsgrove #42). All tackle well and run to the ball. Is a strength of the Hills defense.
  25. Curry's KHSAA suspension was just for the one game, so will be back for the huge Henry County game. With the running attack displayed the last three weeks and continued improvements on defense, should be a great game.
