  1. VOR, thanks for finding the article. The part you highlighted is exactly what spoke to me. We don't know how we would ever respond in a tragedy, but I would like to think I could do what Maria's parents are doing. And just like her Dad said, Friday is the beginning, not the end.
  2. Its not it, but John Erardi's article mentions it. Even though I don't run in NDA community, I remember seeing two of those girls on the basketball court and it just aches my heart.
  3. John Erardi wrote an amazing article in todays Enquirer in tribute to Maria and her family. I couldn't find the article to link it, but if someone could that would be great. It is the Up in the Bit column "Sharing a game's joy and a parent's pain." I don't know the family, but I am a mother and this speaks to my heart. Prayers to all the families involved.
  4. What reputation are you talking about? Do we bash other schools that fail to show or come late.... why not give the benefit of the doubt to Latin before sticking it to them. Unless you feel that they are an easy target?
  5. Maybe there was some trash talking going on and the ref decided to ask one of them to retrieve the ball....
  6. Simply put, dead ball fouls (which are flagrant technicals and require disqualification) happen within the first few seconds of the whistle being blown. Would a parent like it if an official was chasing a lose ball and their son/daughter took an elbow in the face and the official did not see it? Each year the players get faster and have more physical ability. Its not a question of us being lazy, its officiating the whole game.
  7. Didn't his daughter play there and then she went to Morehead for basketball?
  8. What I don't understand is why the entire scoreboard isn't being used... they don't put the individual players on the board, the points they score, etc. All you get is the player that fouls. If we are paying for the package, why aren't the teams getting the package - announcing, etc. just my .02.
  9. I have said a prayer for her, her family and the whole Greenwave community.
  10. The tree yesterday and today will be putting it up. Have the christmas music playing, the kids helping (hopefully) and tonight we should be sitting down watching TV and have the smell of pine throughout the house.
  11. What a great accomplishment for Kelsey. Her dad would be so proud of her as he was her number one fan. Sadly, he passed away this past spring.
  12. and calling the Enquirer's automated line. Once I clearly speak all the info - the taped voice tells me to hold while they access records and then I get to listen to the sound of someone typing on the keyboard -I mean, hello..its automated and at what point do they think that I actually think someone is typing. Trying to spend money at a business and they don't seem to care or want my money.
  13. In the Bleachers comic It is usually a one or two cell cartoon and involves sports. I know the local NKY paper doesn't carry it. But it can be found online.
  14. Our 11 yr old is going to be a whoopie cushion! We saw one at Walmart and then I realized I could sew one cheaper than the $20. Our daughter is going to be Princess Aurora and youngest son is going to a policeman. We bought his costume accessories at the dollar store and the police helmut makes him look like a "keystone cop".
  15. Oh the good ole days of playing outside until dark - and mom saying "come home when the streetlights come on"... We used to play, kick the can, statues, freeze tag, flashlight tag, whiffle ball, kickball and play with our light sabers - that actually lit up! :ylsuper:
  16. Homemade - very tasty with some french bread or even the little bread bowls from panera scooped out. Very easy to make!
  17. If she will be playing basketball this year? I wonder if the KHSAA will clear the helmet for basketball. I had seen her wearing it at NKU Team Camp I believe.
  18. There was two articles about the beechwood program. http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080731/NEWS0103/807310340/1170/NEWS http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080731/COL19/807310372/1170/NEWS
  19. May the comfort of God, family and friends help them. Prayers being said to them.
  20. As reported in the Enquirer: http://news.nky.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20080610/SPT0302/806100347/-1/SPT HOLMES HOMECOMING: Travece Turner, who a decade ago starred on the girls' basketball team at Holmes, will return to coach it next season. Turner, who spent last season as the head coach at Newport, has been hired by Holmes, according to athletic director Ron Madrick. Turner will replace Celeste Hill Brockett, another Holmes alumna who recently accepting an assistant coaching position at Old Dominion. "We think she's a very up-and-coming young coach," Madrick said. "She's lived in our community. She played here before going to college and having a great career. We've been following her career and we feel honored to have her as a part of our program." Turner played on the Kentucky All-Star Team as a senior in 1998, then played a season at the University of Richmond. She later transferred to Morehead State where she was an all-conference player. While coaching at Newport, she taught in the Covington School District. The Wildcats went 4-21 in its one season under Turner.
  21. Greater sister, daughter and friend. I think of the Sorrells every time I pass the cross on the highway.
  22. A tough group of ladies that have some talent. Can't wait to see what they can do next season. :thumb:
  23. :thumb: Great no call at the collegiate level. At high school level, it might be a different story.
  24. Such a huge accomplishment for the program! Way to Go:dancingpa
  25. medical question than a KHSAA question. How on earth would a coach, teammate or official know if a girl is pregnant. As for whether or not a boy is a father and playing basketball - does it really matter to KHSAA as long as the boy is meeting all of the other eligibility requirements? If a coach would know that a girl is pregnant and playing that would fall to the coaches responsibility to act.
