  1. The same could be said about Highlands in many games this year, but with them, you've always got the threat of the pass. The beauty of having an effective passing game, is that you can pick & choose how to deploy it. Regular season against an inferior team, throw it around and work on some things. Tight game in the playoffs, throttle it back and play ball control. Either way, the defense has to respect it. As soon as the safeties begun to suck in, here comes the long ball.
  2. There were 12 high school football games being played in the Commonwealth last night, so unless selection is random, somebody, or some body of persons, made the decision that this was one of the 12 best crews in the state. Oh, unberievable!
  3. Donovan McCoy was absolutely at his best tonight. How many third and long situations were converted with beautiful passes? I literally lost count. I have to humbly disagree with you on this. I was there, and the white hat was an absolute embarrassment. The things he chose to overlook vs. the things he chose to call, well, I don't know how to explain it.
  4. The question of the night will be, can the Jags offense move the ball against "those filthy animals!"
  5. This worst of this problem goes away if we return to a reasonable number of classes. Just another example of why six classes is a bad idea.
  6. You are exactly correct IMO TOG. Kids all played hard today. Darn fun game to be at. Tough way for it to end for the JV Colonels. And while I'm glad they're getting lights, there is no more pretty place to watch a football game in the fall in NKY than a Saturday afternoon on the visitor side at Cov Cath. Notre Dame Academy on the hill in the background, leaves changing color, slight nip in the air, fireball flying everywhere....
  7. After a 3 or 4 week layoff, Houliston was absolutely fantastic. His natural feel for the game and position are outstanding. I cannot wait to watch this kid run the big squad next year. On the defensive side of things for the birds, the loss of three Sophs to the varsity team has no doubt hurt the pass D. A few things to work on this week.
  8. If there's a way to show less imagination on offense than Ryle, I'm unaware of it.
  9. I definitely won't answer for LN, but if there's a program anywhere in the country that does a better job than Highlands of developing the players it has, I'm unaware of it. To watch the growth these kids make during their four years at HHS is unbelievable. You simply cannot overstate this point.
  10. PP92 - many people made similar predictions about Johnson Central's running game the past few years. JJ Jude was one of the best backs in KY history. Why will Scott County have more success than JC?
  11. Game time was a source of consternation for many a Highlands fan as they arrived for the 7:30 start time only to see 1:00 minute remaining in the first quarter. I guess the decision was made to start early since both teams & officials were ready to go, and the kids had a decent bus ride home ahead of them. Not sure though. First off, beautiful facilities for Bryan Station. Not sure how old the new school is, but the entire facility is gorgeous. Pretty good football game, with as earlier posters said, Josh Watson running wild. Hadn't seen the kid play in a while & forgot how fast he is. Glad to see him back from injury so strong. Of course he couldn't have done that w/out the awesome job done by the O-line. The holes weren't big, they were cavernous - '73 Cadillac Eldorado wide. Defense played pretty well against a very slippery BS QB in the first half, but since I only saw the second quarter.... In the second half, a different QB took over for BS - #12 - and did well, but they weren't able to move the ball like in the first half. Highlands D stepped up and made some nice stops. Ayers (#36) was in the QB's face seemingly the entire 4th quarter. Nice contributions from HHS players on both sides of the ball in the second half to seal the win. One take away was the poor attendance by BS fans at home. You've got a very nice team there. Give 'em the support they deserve!
  12. Lexington Catholic Central Paducah Tilghman Boone County Christian Academy-Louisville
  13. 7 - Cov Cath 5 - NCC 3 - Rockcastle 2 - Boone 1 - Walton-Verona TB - Cov Cath
  14. Everyone's aware of the instances of trouble with football, but has there been an issue with a KY baseball player to date?
  15. I'm sitting here watching Arizona host St. Johns in super regional play, and can't help but think how they'd never be able to play the game if these were Kentucky high schools. I know it generally doesn't come into play until late in our season, but seems like an adjustment is needed for baseball as compared to football.
  16. No doubt that Conner D was spotty tonight, but HHS hit the ball hard in response to those errors & made Conner pay. Two of Conner's early runs came about because of an HHS throwing error also.
  17. Totally agree. Always prefer watching a high school game in a nice hs facility packed to the rim as opposed to a 1/4 full college or pro venue. Having said that, see you in Florence!
  18. Very nice win boys! You got the bunts down, turned the heat on and took the fight to 'em. Very nice pitching by Schultz, Jones and then Murray closing it out. Enjoy this one tonight, take care of academics the next two days & come back to Florence Wednesday night ready to play! Keep it goin' Birds!
  19. JV final score was actually 4-2 HHS over SK. Kenny Ball pitched 7 inning complete game in only 66 pitches giving up 1 earned run. Another very nice outing for the knuckleballing freshman. JV birds continue to put the bat on the ball.
