  1. Dittos to Lt.Dan's response. Some of the bigger schools are at a distinct disadvantage with respect to not having the "exposure," if you will, due to smaller schools not being willing to play them. If more in-region games took place, I believe that the somewhat head-to-head comparisons might change the way the votes shake out. Still, no system is perfect and this one, in its current form, is much better than having no recognition at all.
  2. Big game situations will be the key factor come tournament time. Regular season games are important but not of the maginitude of game-on-the-line, season-ending circumstances. Those who shrink back at those times will be the ones eating popcorn, drinking soft drinks and watching the remaining games. Tournament time - gotta love it!
  3. Wow, an impressive win. I did not see this coming and missed in my prediction, but it just goes to show that a very lively tourney time is around the corner. Congrats to the Lady Wildcats!
  4. This game will be a track meet. Gallatin will definitely have the inside advantage, while Oldham has the depth and overall team speed, so the team that best uses its advantage will pull out the win. My guess is that it will be up for grabs and in doubt early, but that the Lady Colonels might pull away at the end. It will be a great surprise if there are not a lot of points put up on the scoreboards tonight.
  5. I cannot believe my eyes!!! Please, somebody tell me it's not happening - again! What is it with either the Waltonians or the Veronians or both with the year-in-year-out coach bashing? If my caluclations are correct, a W-L record of 57-25 in just under three years at W-V looks pretty good to an objective observer, as it comes in at 69.5%. Get off the man's back, let him guide the girls through a slump and get ready for the tournament. He knows what he is doing, or at least if not, he is beating 69.5% of opponents with blind luck. Multiple players with D-1 talent at W-V ... whoever came up with this scouting report was off a tad. Let the chefs keep working their recipe without a bunch of relatives/wanna-be-coaches/alleged fans screwing it up before its time to be served. There is time to rest, to heal, to get ready for tourney time.
  6. This season is heading toward the finish line with several teams sprinting neck-and-neck down the final stretch, so this "horse race" may end up a photo finish! And what interesting events continue to unfold! It's reasonable to believe that any/every team might hiccup or stub its toe, and if/when it happens it is not time to write the team off. Conversely, a big win or two now doesn't necessarily translate into cutting down the Gallatin Co. nets in a few weeks. But one thing IS certain, though, and that is that this season has been a great one for 8th region girls' basketball fans - and the remainder promises to be more of the same. Thanks, to the ladies who are playing and their coaches for a great ride so far.
  7. This game should be a very interesting rematch of the early season tilt between two strong "A" schools - heck, two 8th region contenders. I doubt seriously that W-V will have its way with the Lady Rebs as it did in the first game. Expect a nail-biter of a game featuring two focused teams looking to take a big step toward the post-season. It's almost too close to call, but I'm giving a slight edge to Owen Co. this time around. It should be a "don't-want-to-miss-it" type of game.
  8. No one sell this team short in the district tourney. They are capable at least one surprise, and are worthy of their opponent's respect. Congrats to Coach W. and the seniors.
  9. Wasn't this Conner's fifth game in eight days? It seems reasonable to believe this had to be a contributing factor in the game doesn't it?
  10. Hmmm! Might the district tourney outcome not be carved in stone??? Yes, things are getting very interesting.
  11. Local bragging rights are on the line, and if it were being played at Trimble, I'd make it a 50/50 game. However, it will go down at Goshen. NOHS is the slight favorite at this point. The Black sisters will control TC's fate, if they can pull off the upset.
  12. The is much time left in this sprint to the finish. Don't sign anybody up as the favorite yet - I really do not think their is a favorite. The answer to the question of a favorite is this: It's somewhere between nobody, anybody and everybody ... is the real answer.
  13. This is not the first time threads have mentioned "former" players playing for W-V. How many W-V players are "former" players from someplace else? Just wondered.
  14. Of course all of this "talk" is just January chatter, but let's open up this can of worms, shall we? "Right there with South Oldham?" Since W-V has beaten them, what prevents them from being ahead of them? Shouldn't head-to-head comparisons matter, even if it was a thin margin of victory? Just a thought.
  15. W-V just keeps on rolling with another win. And with their win over South Oldham last Saturday, considering South's wins over Anderson and Owen this week, the Lady Bearcats look like the top team in the region - I guess. Is this true?
  16. What about it??? Have the results of this past week - Jan. 22 through 28 - cleared anything up about the 8th region picture, or have they just muddied the water even more? For me, as I've watched the scores this week, they make me scratch my head and wonder. Maybe somebody else has a better line on this than I do. What about it???
  17. Could it be that the Baby Birds are sprouting their wings and becoming hawks? Looks like they are progressing well. Congrats to the girls and Coach Richey on a big win versus a fine Ryle club!
  18. Could it be that the Lady Cards are prepping for another region crown and BG destination with their recent momentum??? It looks as though they may be getting their mojo at just the right time.
  19. The assumption/presumption that the winning team was classless doesn't always hold water. To think that, one must only know the perspective of having been on the short end of the stick in such situations. What if the coach actually displayed some mercy because it could have been a score of 142-6? If wwe must place blame, why not accuse the coach or AD of the clobbered team for abusing his/her team with unwise scheduling? Let's not rush to jump on the bash-the-winner bandwagon. Maybe they did run it up, but maybe not.
  20. Colonel Mike, you and your crew really do a commendable job with your broadcasts. For those of you who might be unfamiliar with the Pegasus Sports Network, you need to tune in via your computers and reap the benefits of the internet - they really are top notch. Isn't technology great ?!?!
  21. Strange and weird is this game of girls' basketball. Evidently there was no resemblance of the end-of game faux pax that plagued the Lady Dragons at Walton-Verona Sat. night. Some things are hard to explain.
  22. Miss Whitfield is the best talent in the 8th region, and that is saying much, as there are several very accomplished young ladies this year, especially in the junior class. More so than any of them, she can impact a game from baseline to baseline.
  23. Sorry, "CC", but they don't need to play them 10 times - it only takes one good/bad night to extend or end a team's season one month from now. It looks as though Jan. 22 was the big day for the little schools to start "woofing" in the 8th, with Owen Co. snatching one in Lawrenceburg from Anderson Co., and Walton-Verona deflating South Oldham's bubble up at W-V. Big dogs, little dogs, all that junk matters not one iota this year. Whoever is bringing their best game to Warsaw this March - and it IS WIDE OPEN NOW, folks - will be trucking down I-65 to Diddle. Any current prognosticators that might get it right are just lucky guessers, because there will be lots of twists and turns down the remaining road in the next few weeks of hoops. There are now NO FAVORITES - WIDE OPEN!!!
  24. When questionable calls occur at the end of a game on the road (they should not, but they do), the best of teams grasp control of the game in order to seal the deal and destine the outcome. That is how officating and/or an opposing crowd are negated. Kids make mistakes, coaches make mistakes and officials make mistakes - the human factors are what make sports interesting and madening, right? That said - when the best referees are doing their job well, what they do, what they do not do, and how they do it are hardly noticed, so they tend to blend into the game and become inconspicuous. Unfortunately, some officials, on some occasions, seem to feel that it is their job to be more than that. As an old saying goes: "Losers weep and winners crack jokes," so hats off to the Lady Bearcats on a hard-fought win. Boys and girls, W-V doesn't have a 14-4 record for no reason.
  25. It appears as if "the Rock" is gaining more and more momentum in the direction of Bowling Green. If it indeed does happen, hopefully some justice will be served to compensate for the controversial ending to their season last year. Good luck ladies.
