  1. Clyde, your comments made me think of some of the criticisms I heard regarding the make-up of this year's senior all-star squad. Obviously, the team did have a good and solid unit that played as a team and swept the Hoosiers. The "politics" word was thrown around prior to the games but has not appeared or been heard much since the results were positive. Somebody is ALWAYS going to be left off the team that some folks think are deserving - it's simply the nature of the beast.
  2. Is this the same Josh Terwilliger who coached the women's team at Cincinnati Christian University a few years ago? If indeed he is, then I'll make the comment that he definitely knows the game. Best of luck.
  3. Plantmanky, I do believe you have hit a grand slam with you comments and player/athlete rationale. Spot on!
  4. There are more bad jobs than there are bad coaches, and I believe the contents of the quote listed above qualifies this as a not-so-attractive job. Why? Toxic adults could be the cause. Cooper is a fairly new school with great facilities - and Coach Turner worked pretty hard and selflessly for her girls. I hope things work out for the sakes of the players, and best of luck to Coach Turner.
  5. Congrats to Coach Higdon and the Lady Dragons!
  6. How did tonight's - Tuesday's -scrimmage go in Lexington? Only 24 hours to go until the next one in Louisville. The real deal is just around the corner. Best of luck to the ladies and the staff this Friday and Saturday!
  7. A decision should be announced soon --- or so I hope.
  8. Pay vs. workload=bad day job (which negatively impacts coaching abilities & family time) More to life grinding when one is doing so needlessly. The only important scores are test scores. No further info needed.
  9. Coach Henley has broken out from Oldham county, and congrats on the move. Like Dave Ramsey screams on his radio show: "FREEDOM!!!" It's no small task for a man or woman to both teach and coach in this school system, and there is a growing number of accomplished and respected coaches (in boys' and girls' basketball and additional sports) who have left the OC system only to go onto other schools and maintain and/or increase their success.
  10. They do it pretty much by committee, and have a good and solid unit with a number of contributors, really. Other members may chime in who may beg to differ, but to me, it seems that on any given night a different person may step up to have the biggest stat line - and it isn't always a starter who does so.
  11. True, and she is very humble, gracious and matter-of-fact about all of the attention and awards. She most certainly deserves the recognition, and will hopefully have a long and healthy basketball career after high school. I sure hope the all-stars beat Indiana next week, too! It's a definite feather in the cap to lead and play for a Kentucky team whose players can leave for college with that accomplishment on their resumes.
  12. Steve Simpson's group could make the 2012-13 season the Year of the Dragon in the 8th region. Many returning players who are very familiar with one another will make a run deep into the region tourney, and just might prevail to be the first team in school history to make the journey to Rupp come March. However, there will be no under the radar status this time around for the boys from South. They'll have to drive it home with each team bringing its "A-game" against the Dragons every night.
  13. Let me start with this disclaimer - I don't have any knowledge or insights in to the unique charactersitics of the GRC position. However my years of experience have certainly taught me this: Frequently the person hired may not be the best basketball person for the job, which would seem to be the first priority. Instead, as ridiculous as it may seem, the person hired often times is the candidate who is the most "sell-able" to the community from the perspective of the "selectors," so that it covers their back-sides and is politically self-serving. When I was younger and quite a bit more naive, I was oblivious to this way of thinking until a high school principal explained to me personally why they chose the candidate that they did. Well, I was shocked at first to hear such a statement but have noticed the pattern unfold over the years. And sure enough, as my Grandma used to say, the pattern appears to still be holding true. Now occasionally it does come together so that the best basketball person is hired, but normally only when it is politically correct to do so.
  14. To be sure, there are more important things than basketball, and it's good that it's being learned at an early age. Family first. Maybe next year when it counts the most.
  15. I'm sure they are unrelated events, but it is interesting that Taulbee also did not participate in the senior all-star tryouts. Two very significant honors in all for two deserving players, but not any participation from either. Unfortunate.
  16. Is there anyone willing to comment on Sunday's tryouts at Georgetown College? How'd things go - just wondering?
  17. It cannot be a good sign for the Lady Colonels if there still has not been a coach named to lead the program. Oldham County had its vacancy posted before practically all others, so the outlook doesn't appear to be bright. Only time will tell - will things change competitively in the 29th district, or will the status quo be maintainted??? My thoughts are that South Oldham will remain the boss.
  18. Jesse, I believe you are correct, it looks as though Boyle Co. is not open after all. It didn't make sense that it would open up again so soon, so it is a good thing that stability is being established.
  19. Boyle County??? Again??? That place has been a revolving door for quite a few years. It seems to have all the qualities that would make it a good program, but for some reasons they have not. Very strange.
  20. This is what I found on another website regarding openings around the state: Carroll Co., Hickman Co., Greenup Co., Oldham Co., Thomas Nelson (a new school to open near Bardstown), Spencer Co., Fairdale, Ballard and Taylor Co. None of these openings have been substantiated on either the KDE or KHSAA websites, I'm just passing on what has been found elsewhere - food for thought.
  21. Sorry, Madman, I must differ with you on this one. This a recipe for disaster. Go no further than across the river to our Hoosier friends. They have truly slain their goose that kept laying golden eggs each spring. Yes, a few got what they wanted - the small schools - but it has diluted the product and made pedestrian what had formerly been the king of state high basketball tournaments (with Kentucky being a close second). Having spent about an equal amount of my life on both sides of the river, my observations are that the Kentucky tourney is now the king of state tournaments. Why change what is the best in order to become common and generic? With the free and loose applications of transfer rules that allow schools to become collections of talent from nearby schools instead of developers of local talent, school size is not that much of a factor. The irony is that is happening among public schools, which makes many of their arguments moot when it comes to complaining about private schools doing the same. It ain't broke - so let's not start to try to fix it.
  22. Amen! No reason to put folks in harm's way for a ball game. It's good to play another day.
  23. Frank, aren't you frequently a contributor to the "other" website? I'm surprised your comments haven't stirred up a greater response.
  24. Collins lost, yet I don't hear them whining about the refs - who were not doing them any favors, either. They had every bit as much to complain about as the W-V folks. Be happy that your team won and let it go.
