  1. Athletics will certainly NEVER be the reason for consolidation. Consolidation will only take place because of budget issues. As far as why both teams are bad....I have to agree with JimmyV. Talent is bad. Bourbon's best player is a Freshman. He has absolutely no help. Paris has a few good players but from what I hear those players aren't fully committed to the team. Bourbon lacks size. Paris lacks numbers. The freshman team at Paris consists of five freshman, three eighth graders. One quote earlier said these two schools have decent middle school programs, but these kids Decommitt themselves from sports by the time they get to high school. There are kids at Bourbon County (and Paris I guess) that would rather go the YMCA and play pick up than be apart of the team. It's crazy. This is a very sore subject for me, being that I've seen how rich both programs have been in the past. I was around for the glory days of the eighties for Football, and the 90's for all the talented basketball players. In a span of about 10 years (90-00's), these two schools sent more kids to play college basketball than Lexington Catholic and Scott County combined. Chez Marks, Derek Robinson, Clinton Sims, Alvin Sims, Corey Dumphord, Preston LeMaster, Jason Earlywine, etc etc just to name a few. I can't remember the last one to go now? Craig Williams of Bourbon County played a little D3 ball I believe. Will the talent cycle back around? Or Is the community gone "sports dead." I think some of problems lie in the little league programs. There are too many basketball leagues for young kids. Each school has their own elementary program. There is upward, there is the YMCA league, there is "little hounds." When there was just the YMCA league for many years, this is where kids were learning how to play basketball and be competitive. Now everything is about every Tom, Dick and Harry getting the same minutes and the same shots. I could go on much longer, but I'll shut up for now. Somebody please respond to give me something more to gripe about on this subject.
  2. Paris was solid defensively. Greyhounds couldn't throw it in the ocean. Geoff Cody has his guys playing hard. Putting the ball in the basket is their problem. Congrats to the "stangs." Reiger is a very nice player. This was a good game to watch.
  3. I think Brossart is a heavy favorite.
  4. Thank you, both of you, for further emphasizing my opinion. Being that he is Clark Co.'s sixth man, he is still better than most players in the region. I indeed said that some of the people rated could not start at Clark. I truly believe their 1 through 6, with exception of the little point guard, are top ten players in the region.
  5. In my opinion....I think there are some players on your all's lists that are good players, but not good enough to be top ten. For instance, the King boys are good. However, neither of them would start for Clark County. Campbell from Nicholas is a good player. Would NOT start for Clark County. I've seen almost every team in the tenth play with the exception of Augusta and Silver Grove. Here is my list. 1. Jaylen Daniels- Will be best College player of all these guys. (Can't wait to hear the groans and moans about this one) 2. Vinny Zollo - Much improved from last year 3. Robbie Stenzel- So many good players on his team takes away the spotlight. 4. Jacob Reiger- Can do a little of everything. 5. Treg Setty- Will be good one day. 6. Corey Rogers- On some nights, the best player in the region. 7. Travis Purvis- Flying under the radar. 6'7" and can stroke it. 8. Kellen Smith- Has Scott winning. 9. Malcom Thomas- Out of control. Very athletic. 10. Aaron Jacobs- Paris sophomore. 6'5. Averages a double/double. (Saw him play against Bourbon and Montgomery. He's tough.)
  6. Paris is a scary basketball team this year. They are capable of beating anyone (exception, Clark Co.) in the 10th. However, they are also capable of losing to anyone by 20+. The new coach seems to have them playing better basketball.
  7. I took some time tonight to look at the schedules of a lot of the 10th region teams. It is unbelievable that Calvary Christian, Silver Grove, Augusta are ahead of anyone in the rankings (no offense to these teams). I know there's not much stock put in these rankings, but at least make them credible. There were wins on these teams schedules that I had never heard of. Teams like Bourbon, Nicholas, Paris might not be the cream of the crop, but at least they play a respectible schedule and compete. Bourbon doesn't shy away from anyone. Paris has played everyone in the region within single digits with the exception of Goliath (Clark Co). I just think that there's not much credibility in rankings. It sures heck doesn't yield 40 thread posts and this long post of mine. I think with technology today, they ought to let coaches do an online vote every Sunday of their region and and then the state. This would be much more respected and so simple to do. Maybe I'm on to something. Contact Cantrall and tell him about the idea. It could be the Cantrall Coach's Rankings.
  8. Fairview is good? Im not being facistious (sp?). I know nothing about their program.
  9. Paris ended up losing in the 3rd place game of the East/West Jessamine Invitational to Boyle County. Boyle County won big.
  10. Final. Game was not that close. Paris was up double digits most of the game.
  11. Thanks! I was out of town or normally would have been there. Sounds like it must of been close.
  12. There was nothing in the newspaper about this game and no one posted a final score. Who won? What was the score?
  13. This was a much closer game than the score indicated. Very entertaining game to watch. The lead went back and forth til the last 6 minutes. Montgomery led by four at that point and then blew it out with free-throws. The freshman for Montgomery is outstanding. Crisp was held scoreless. Congrats to Montgomery on the win.
  14. Bourbon being seventh is a joke. I'm a Bourbon County fan, but they were bad last year and lost their top for scorers to graduatioin. Going to be a rough year. Montgomery not being in the top eight is an even bigger joke.
  15. Paris had two nice players and Powell had two nice players. Numbers 5 and 20 for Powell were very good outside shooters. The two guards for Paris (they were all wearing the same number...not sure the reason) got to the hole when they wanted and were very aggressive.
  16. Paris won this one by three points. 70-67. New Coach looks to have the greyhounds playing hard and scoring.
  17. There were a few Mr. Basketball guys I didn't even see on this thread. Brandon Stockton was a very good high school player. Maybe not a great college player. Preston Lemaster was an incredible high school player. Chris Lofton would be my unanimous #1 pick if we are stricktly talking high school career. Matt Walls was another I didn't see on the thread. How about Bud Mackey?
  18. The line is a major problem for the greyhounds. They got decent skill players and a great Head Coach. Line and attitude is where Paris gets in trouble. Undoubtedly, Paris is more athletic. They have two or three "Taylor Barnes" on their team. The boxscore rarely shows that. Regardless, I still think this one will be close. By the way.......Does anyone know if a Paris win Friday gives them a playoff berth?
  19. The line is Bourbon -6.5 Rivalry game always calls for a close game.
  20. Bourbon County people for the vast majority welcome the merge. Typically its the Paris people that don't want to. They have too much pride at Paris to admit that a merge would be a good thing. As far as students getting along, a good majority of high school students from both schools run around together. Paris boys date Bourbon girls and Bourbon boys date Paris girls. Someone asked earlier in the forum what constitutes a merge besides enrollment. A merge can take place or will be put in order by the state if the Paris contingency budget falls below 3% (I think). In Lehman's terms...they need to have at least 3% more than all their bills to run the school. Anything lower than that is considered financial trouble. By the way, 7-10 students per a class is not even close. My son has at least 15 people in each of his classes. Most classes over at Paris have at least 20. It's a smaller school, but not smaller classes. And Paris does offer college courses which are taught on Paris' campus.
  21. I know this is an age old question, but wanted to stir up thoughts on this topic. Could they have a successful 4A football team if they combined? Or has the talent fell off that much in this town? Same with basketball...how much better would they or wouldn't they be? Thoughts?
  22. Im not so sure half the team was in street clothes due to injury. I think they're mostly healthy. This means that Everage is at least trying to do right by disciplining athletes for poor classroom performance. I hope they get it turned around myself.
  23. I know too often than not, there is a lot of negativity about coaches and teams. However, as a parent of one of the Paris football players, I wanted to commend Coach Everage for his patience and hard work with this football team. Half the football team was in street clothes Friday night against Hazard and from what I understand, attitudes have been horrible this year. Once again, I just wanted to let everyone know that he's doing a fine job, and sadly, some of the players just don't understand what it takes to have a successful program.
