If you are a true fan, you are behind your team through thick and thin. Believe me, I know. I support the Hazard Bulldogs regardless of the sport or the standings and I our athletes, more often than not, turn into good productive adults by being mentored by a dedicated coach who can instill devotion as well as determination into their young charges. You know, I couldn't be any more proud of the Hazard Bulldogs if they had won the game! :thumb: This one was for bragging rights and I think we used it well, even though we lost. There are two more important games coming up...the All A and the Regional Tournament. As everyone knows, it would be very difficult for any team to beat another closely matched team three times in one season.:ylsuper: If we had to lose a game...this was the one to lose. Plus, it helped us gain confidence and showed that we can play with JBS! When Robert, our recently approved Bell Co. transfer, gets a little more confident in his game, you will see a difference in this team in their rotation as well as point production! I believe Hazard will win this one by 6. Cumberland has a good team, but after our bad game last night, I feel the team has learned their lesson and a victory will be the result. Go dawgs:dancingpa

The saying "A thing of beauty is a joy forever," comes to mind when I think of ballgame victories. Unfortunately, this game certainly could not be called "a thing of beauty," but I guess I would have to put it in the "joy forever," column because I was so glad that it was over! Hazard started the game in a true funk:creepy:. Passes went askew, baskets that usually would have gone in easily clanked off the rims and we look so flat it was pitiful. I don't know if it was the player's being star struck by the Clay County reputation and the fact our old coach, Kevin Spurlock, was their leader, or what, but the first half was unbelievable...Hazard only scored 17 points for goodness sake. I'm sure that Knott County will have to go into Hazard's locker room and do some quick painting today because Al probably peeled all the paint off the walls at halftime and the dogs came out looking like a different team in the third quarter and finally played some decent ball:fight:. We eventually took the lead, and after some really questionable calls, or lack of calls, (in my opinion) we ended in ovetime. Hazard then held on for the victory! Hopefully, this will get the "bad game" out of our system and we will come out looking like the respectible team we agaiinst Clay County! Go Dawgs!:dancingpa

The dogs will be ready to do battle with their old coach on a neutral floor and win in a close game. I pick Hazard by 6. Godogs!

I think it's a combination of things. Granted, our schedule has not been "heavy" with big name basketball school, but you must remember, we were playing football up until the end of November, and many of our basketball players were also football players, so our basketball team had little time to practice until the end of football. That being said, I have watched our defense improve with each game and now we are beginning to anticipate the actions of our fellow players and this helps the team function more smoothly and the defense improve. This Las Vegas tournament will probably be a good indicator of where we stand and what needs to be adjusted. Nevertheless, I believe this team will be one to be reconned with by tournament time.

The score was actually 78 to 49! Oh well..more information on Las Vegas. We play El Dorado, a team actually from Las Vegas on December 26th at 8:30. They guarantee us four games by participating and hopefully this will be a really good experience for our team!

Hazard rolled on to another victory tonight in the Paintsville Tournament by defeating Sheldon Clark 76 - 49 (I believe). We played a really good first quarter scoring 26 points while our defense held SC. By the first of the 4th quarter, we were ahead 38 points when coach Holland put in the JV and we ended up with a 76-49 win. Our defense really looked much improved tonight and our offense passed the ball well and took care of business! Q_man, I also noticed Denny Fugate sitting on the PCC bench. It seemed odd to me because it seems I remember the KHSAA stating he would be ineligible to coach high school sports due to his unsportsmanlike behavior when he used to coach for MC Napier. I may be wrong, but I would certainly like to know more information about this situation. Maybe he is working as an UNPAID assistant??? Oh well...whatever!! Go Hazard!!

Well, another day, another sport. Congratulations to the Hazard Bulldogs for a big victory over PCC. I feel our team looked surprisingly good in spite of the fact most of them have been playing football up until two weeks ago due to our extended run in football. To me, this is a good indicator of things to come. Coach Holland seems to be doing well with this group of young men and he and his assistant coaches are working hard to bring this team up to speed with his new system. Watch for the dogs to make a big showing well into the tournament season in basketball, too. Go Dogs!! :dancingpa

My family and I will be at the Hazard-LCA game in Lexington this friday night rooting on our Bulldogs to another win! Go Dawgs!

Granted, LCA does have a good coach (He was trained in Hazard several years ago before he caught the wanderlust and left for "greener pastures.") Nevertheless, Hazard also has a good coach as can be seen by what he has accomplished this year with a fine group of players from a small school with only 168 males and 157 females for a total of 325 students in the top four grades. Our team has struggled through good times and bad and has managed to mature into a determined and dedicated entity that has the capability of going to the carpet and winning it all. You say Raines came here and didn't show us everything he had in his playbook. Well, who says we played all our trump cards? One thing is for sure...when we go to Lexington, we will lay our hearts on the line and we will play with the best of them until the whistle blows and the best team wins. Hopefully, that will be Hazard. Go Dogs!!!!:dancingpa

How about those Bulldogs? Once again, our team came out and played with determination, holding Campbellsville to only 6 points. The defense was awesome and the offense...well the score speaks for them. I must congratulate the players and the coach for pulling off this big win. Now, they must begin to prepare for Lexington Christian, another fine team, that we have defeated earlier this year. It is very important for our team to never take anything for granted and play with the same determination next week when we face LCA for the second time. Congratuations Bulldogs for the big Regional win and best of luck next week. Remember one more victory and then we can head to Louisville for a chance at a state championship!! Go Bulldogs!!

We at Hazard have learned to take nothing for granted and we must show Campbellsville their due respect as they have advanced this far into the playoffs. Our boys are a determined and well coached bunch and have worked hard to advance to the third game of the playoffs. Plus, the game will be on our home field. Hazard continues to play with determination and confidence and has, to date, managed to finish the job. I realize Cumberland has nothing to lose, and actually I feel sorry for them as this is their last season due to consolidation (something Hazard has managed to avoid). Nevertheless, I believe Hazard will come out victorious once again and move on to game three next week. Hazard 45 Cumberland 35 Go Bulldogs! :flame:

The fact that Hazard has played a "weak schedule" sometimes adds to the skeptic's fire, :fire: but you must consider that Hazard is the only team to beat Letcher Central in the first game of the season at Letcher's home field. Then, we went to Cumberland and placed a sound beating on them in a game that many felt would be a "test" for us. Then, we ended the season with a near perfect game and a big win over a Lexington Christian school that many have felt would be oone of the regional finalists this year. Our team is very dedicated to showing the state just how good "Mountain Football" really is and will do all in their power to make eastern Kentucky proud when we progress through the playoffs. I appreciate all the team's effort up to this point and have every confidence we will continue to follow the leadership of our Great Coaching Staff and do all in their power to bring home a championship! I also feel Hazard has the potential to be a little flat at the start of the game, but Coach Dixon will see to making the needed adjustments and Hazard will finish with a decent victory. I must say, however, that the Bulldogs need to remmember, they must take care of business every game or tomorrow will never come. Keep up the good work Bulldogs!! :dancingpa

As previously mentioned, Hazard does have a great kicker. His name is Austin Delpont and he is only a sophmore. We are fortunate to have an alumni who played in the 60's and then went on to play at Virginia Tech on football scholarship. He has been an excellent mentor for Austin and continues to work with him on a regular basis. Austin has been instrumental in winning several games, such as the Pikeville playoff game last year in which he kicked the game winning field goal with only seconds left on the clock:thumb:. This year, he has only matured and is kicking many balls well into the endzone, preventing teams from potential runbacks. We feel fortunate to have him and look forward to two more years of great kicks from him.:ylsuper: Go dawgs!:banana::banana:

I feel Hazard has just as good a chance of reaching regionals as anyone else in the east. Their team plays well as a "team," not just a group of individuals all striving to get attention, and so far Coach Dixon has been able to keep them grounded and avoided star-gazing. Therefore, I feel confidant they will represent Hazard High School very well in the upcoming playoffs. Good luck Bulldogs!:thumb:

Tonight Hazard should have made believers out of a few people when they defeated a good LCA team 41 to 21. :banana: This well coached Bulldog team came back from an early LCA score and took control of the game, scoring at will in the first half while their defense held the Eagles time after time. I feel this game had to impress a few doubters and will only serve to add more confidence to this team as they begin playoffs. Way to go Bulldogs!!:flame:

Hello folks! Hazard came out tonight and worked like a well oiled machine to defeat a well coached Lexington Christian team. We passed and ran and pretty much moved at will in the first half and then held on and gradually increased our lead until the final score of 41 to 21. Hopefully, people will begin to realize this little team of determined young men have a real chance in making a splash in the playoffs. I have read all the posts on the web regarding the Hazard/LC game and I felt I needed to put in my two cents worth oon the topic. I attended the game and must say I was astonished by many of the calls the Refs made. Granted, they are often in a bad situation, having to make subjective calls in potentially volitile circumstances. Also, it is impossible to please everyone. However, I felt there were too many calls made that favored the LC team and attempted to cut off Hazard at the knees. Almost every time we had momentum going in the first half, we received some sort of penalty stopping the game flow. I realize some of them may have been legitimate, but several were just outlandish. Then, in the second half, things escalated and we received calls that were just out in left field...ie the "touched" punt by Josh Kidd when he wasn't near the ball, or the end zone call when no ref was even close enough to determine where the ball crossed the line, and we got the ball on the one yard line. There were others that I won't mention, but I am sure the refs have good recall of them. Also, how can you explain all our bickering about the officiating when we, in fact, won the game in spite of their questionable calls? As I understand it, the tapes are being reviewed and hopefully, if there were inadequate calls made, the refs will be called on the carpet and similar episodes will not happen again. After all, the actions of the officials sets the pace for the game, and calls should be made honestly, not in favor of anyone. I wish LC nothing but the best in their future and regret their best player's season ending injury. I also wish nothing but the best for our Bulldogs and hope they advance well into the playoffs.
