OMG...what happened? LCC has really been coming on over the end of the season and I know they had given JBS tough games both times they met, but I still figured it would be a closer contest! It all boils down to teamwork. That is what wins games, and when you forget that, the lights go out and everyone falls on their face! I wish the JBS kids best of luck in their future and feel Letcher will be stiff competition in the region.

Hazard's girls won the All A and Sweet 16 in 1997 and then won the All A again in 1998!

The Bulldogs have completed their season and are now moving on into the district with a game against Buckhorn on Wednesday Feb. 27th at PCC. I know Buckhorn will be chomping at the bit to get ahold of the Bulldogs, but I feel Hazard will be ready to run the Wildcats to ground and win in convensing fashion providing they keep their focus and listen to the coaching staff. Hazard has the players and the coach to make it to the big dance in Lexington. I guess it remains to be seen if they have the internal fortitude and desire to withstand an onslaught of lesser teams stepping up to the plate and putting their heart out there to defeat Hazard. It seems JBS is really struggling, as they had another loss tonight against KCC, so if the Stepps can pull it together and get back on track, I believe it will be Hazard or JBS even though the regional is at PCC athis year and this puts more heat on Hazard to defeat the Commodores in their own home gym. I believe Hazard will avenge their near loss in the previous game by soundly defeating Lee County by at least 15. Go Bulldogs!

Received confirmation from the superintendent's office that the Powell County game has been cancelled due to Hazard's long All A tournament run putting them over the allotted number of games per season. The Saturday night game against Lee County at Hazard will take place. Go Bulldogs!

What a sad situation. I don't know about you, but most of the best memories in my life have some sort of music as a reminder of that day. For inistance, even though I have been out of high school for many years, I still know all the words to our fight song and simply hearing it makes me jump to my feet and cheer for our team. Also, the band works hard all year to learn songs to play at ballgames and to have administration tell them their services are not needed is simply selfish. I hope the Greenup County administrators can come forward and voice the reasons for their decision so fans can better understand, or even better, reverse their decision and let the bands play on.

Hazard actually won te All A in 2004!

Hazard High School, with an attendance of 325 students in the top four grades, continues to be competative in the world of the giant consolidated schools. We scored 5th in the state on our CATS tests and our band is consistantly in the top four in the state in spite of having only 25-30 band members. Our football team went undefeated i our district this past season and ended up 14-1 withour loss coming in the state semi-finals at the hands of LCA, a private school. Our basketball team ended up runner-up in the All A tournament behind UHA, a private school, and you wonder why we resent thse schools who fit into the A category, but have an open door policy to accept kids from any county they please. We must stay within our boundary--the city of Hazard, and in the past few years our reciprocal agreement between Perry County Central and Hazard has taken a hit due to their superintendent attempting to retain all his students. I guess I must say that I wonder how long it will be before our school programs suffer due to these constraints while the private school continue to flourish and essentially rub it in the face of the public schools. I am proud of our team and of our school. I feel we work diligently to provide the best education we can to our students and believe our test scores give testament to that. But honestly, I don't believe there will ever be parity in the sports arenas until there is a separation of public and private and we no longer have to compete against private schools.

Congratulations to UHA on their victory today. They have a really good team and should advance to the Sweet 16 if they play as well as they did today. I must say our Bulldogs also put on quite a show. We hung tough and even pulled even late in the game, but our missed freethrows and some questionable no-calls really hurt us down the stretch. I believe this tournament will be very good for the Bulldogs in the long run...perhaps making them "more hungry" to get to the Sweet 16. I am proud of you Bulldogs...keep your head up! Hazard won the All A in 2004 when they beat Bishop Brossart 43-38 with Kevin Spurlock as our coach.

I am really sorry Paintsville couldn't pull this one out. They have a really good team and it would have been great having two mountain teams in the finals! Best wishes to the tigers. Keep your heads up...the season is far from over and you will have many more opportunities for substantial victories before March!

OMG! :eek: What a game! Hazard came into McBrayer Arena today to face Rose Hill in the semifinal round of the All A tournament. We started out fairly well, jumping out to a four point lead, but it didn't seem we could ever gain our momentum, partially due to Rose Hill, of course, but also because we didn't seem to have the gusto we usually display in a big game. :scared: The game drug on and we were down by four a halftime. Then the third quarter came along...probably our worst quarter of the entire year...and we found ourself down 15 and wondering what had happened. :confused: Perhaps our boys finally looked at the score and at the clock, or maybe the coach finally woke them up...whatever it was, Randy Lewis came into the game and gave us some really good minutes on defense as well as offense and he hit a three from the parking lot (well about 23 feet out) and cut the lead to 12. Then things began to happen and you could almost see the momentum switch to Hazard, as our shots began to fall and we actually began to MAKE OUR FREETHROWS, and we tied the game.:banana: I couldn't believe it, as we had been down by 16 at one point! The determined dogs hung tough and with 9.9 seconds left we had the ball, called a timeout and set up a play. Unfortunately, it didn't pay off and Rose Hill hit it out of bounds. With 0.03 seconds left, we got the ball under our goal and coach set up a beautiful play. :jump: The ball was passed in to Justine Jones who caught it while up in the air and tipped it into the goal. Victory for Hazard...right? :thumb: NO, THEY WAVED IT OFF and to overtime we went. :madman: It was all dogs in the overtime and we ended up with a 9 point victory thanks to hitting our shots and FREETHROWS and our defense stepping it up a notch!:fight: First I must offer my congratulations to Rose Hill and say you have a great young team and I think our paths just might cross again in the All A again next year.:lol: I must also say congratulations to the bulldogs for making one of the best come backs I have seen in years. The Bulldgos managed to pull out another win against a good Gallatin County team last night in the All A thanks to our smothering defense. Things could have been so much easier if we had hit our freethrows, but it was not meant to bel! We had several young men who played reallly well, but Robert Warren was the man of the hour and was awarded Player of the Game honors!
