I was just wondering if anyone has ever won the All "A" and the Sweet 16 in the same year? If not then has anyone come close besides UH (did it in 94 I believe)? If UH does get to the tournament then it'll be a rough road to the finals but was just wondering.

I believe Harlan won the All "A" in 1994.

Yeah. UH lost in the finals of the All "A" that year but won the Sweet 16. I'm asking if any team has ever won both of them the same year.

Lexington Christian's girls last year are the only team to pull the clean sweep. Unless I'm overlooking someone, no boys team has pulled the sweep.

Hazard's girls won the All A and Sweet 16 in 1997 and then won the All A again in 1998!

Three girls teams have done it ... Nicholas County in 1993, Hazard in 1997 and Lexington Christian in 2007.

 

Lexington Catholic won the All A Classic in 1992 after beating University Heights in the semifinals. UHA beat LexCath in the state championship game in March.

St. Henry 2003 had the best chance. They beat OJ Mayo and Rose Hill in the All A finals. Then they lost to eventual champs Mason Co in a battle in the first round of the Sweet 16

Agreed. I still think St. Henry would have won the game if Michael Schmidt hadn't hurt his knee in the first half. Mason didn't have an answer for him inside.

 

Lexington Catholic had a great shot in 1997. They were nationally ranked for much of the season and were one of the two favorites (along with Eastern) at the Sweet 16 ... but they were knocked out in the regional tournament.

 

And, of course, they came up just a bit short in 1992.

Harlan won the Class "A" in 1995, but lost to PRP in the sweet 16 semi-finals.
