People closer to Listerman, geographically speaking, know more about the coach than those outside of the region. Cov Cath wins games and that is what people see but what they don't see is the talent he is given. Cov Cath should be in the region finals every year and in the Sweet 16 every other with the talent that goes there. He may be a good guy and always says the right things but 90% of coaches in NKY can't stand the guy.

When they beat Lexington Catholic, LC was not playing like they are now. That was probably LCs worst game of the year. Listerman is a good coach but not great. Jim Hicks in NKY is a great coach. He is able to mold his players and get them to play the right way. He never gets the Cov Cath talent but consistently has been to the region tournament. Faust at St. Henry is a great coach. I bet you will find that he loses a lot of kids to Cov Cath and yet still wins year in and year out. Henley at Holmes is a great coach. Most coaches wouldn't put themselves in a school like Holmes, but Henley is able to get the most out of his players.

I love how we put coaches in the "great coach" category without seeing them coach a team to anything. Listerman has never had to win without talent. I think to be a "great coach" you need to be able to win with a team no one expects to be good and if you have a good team you need to win state at least once.

You went all the way to NKY to watch the freshmen boys play in a tournament and you're not a parent, that is either dedication or insanity. Just kidding with you.

Most don't turn 16 until after or during their sophomore season. Not a big deal and definitely not the only school to do it, my point is that by having older kids they have developed more experience. Carver and Setty were held back, I forget what grade, so that they could play with this group.

2 or 3 of the starters for Mason are going to turn 16 before the end of their freshmen year.

Must be nice to have soon to be 16 year olds on a Freshmen team.

Not many coaches at the freshmen level have assistants. Not many people want to "volunteer" for the job.

No that is not a typo. Ryle held Beechwood scoreless in the second half with half court defense and primarily the last 5 off the bench. Is this the direction of Beechwood basketball or has it always been like this? Beechwood kids played hard and never gave up, they just weren't able to even get a shot off. Ryle's Coach has them playing good defense, full and half court. A side note, one of Ryle's starters broke his eye socket against Bishop Brossart and is out until mid to late January.

Helmer is not as good of a basketball player as Mitch. Mitch is a better defender, on and definitely off the ball, and he also is a much better passer. Also, Mitch can create his own shot where Helmer cannot. I've see almost every game these two have played and I would take Mitch over Steve anyday.

That is pure talent right there. There is no coaching in All-Star games.

You're completely wrong about coaching being superior in Ohio. No team in Ohio has a chance without good athletes to win state. In Kentucky, the best coached team always has a shot.

Coaching is a lot better in Kentucky than Ohio. Talent is better in Ohio than Kentucky.

Mitch is Ryle's best shooter. He has struggled a little playing the point. He should be Shooting Guard but there is no one to relieve Ahern when he's tired. Helmer definitely can't do it, he turns the ball over way too much. If the sophomores step up, Ryle will be really deep. Bringing in Tate, Mitch, Clay, and Lamping off the bench if they continue to improve, could be the best bench in the 9th.

None of them sat. Mailey was hurt on and off during the game, Helmer got his minutes, and Andy played quite a bit too. Ryle's best scorers, though, are the sophomores.

What are the scores for Freshmen? Ryle played Bishop Brossart tonight and won, don't know the final yet just know the game wasn't close.

They played a good schedule so far, but I want to see NKY's "big time" programs match up against Cincy's "big time" programs. I've always said they get better athletes in Ohio but Kentucky schools are coached a lot better.
