CovCath 51 Cincinnati Oak Hills 33

CovCath plays some great "D" and beats a tough Cincinnati Oak Hills team.

Stats....

Just got back from the game. The thing I noticed about CCH was that alot of their offensive sets don't seem to get the ball close to the hoop. It all seems to be movement/passing around the top of the key. Just an observation.

I watched the first 5 minutes of the game and I thought CovCath looked good but not unbeatable. I like Bondick and his ability to get to the hoop. Schmerge is a great rebounder and having Luke Maile coming off the bench is just scary. Noll had a tough task guarding the big 6'5 265lb dude who looked like he could snap your neck but overall I would say they are solid and will make a run for the 9th title.

I'm guessing Luke is coming off the bench due to missing some practices due to an injury.

If by tough, you mean they look like they could win a wrestling match or two, then I agree. If by tough, you mean they're are really good team, then you're way off base.

As I said in the Highlands post on the event at NKU, it was a win over a bad team from Ohio.

I believe you said that CovCath should have asked Lakota West to play in these games instead of Lakota East as they were the good Lakota team. Well Oak Hills (who btw is the largest public high school in the state of Ohio) beat Lakota West the night before. So by your own standards CovCath beat a good team. I guess I should have used good instead of tough. :D

Sandman said...."Lakota West is good, Lakota East, not. They brought the wrong Lakota school."

From Sunday Enquirer

"We still were congratulating ourselves after a good victory at Lakota West (Friday)," he said. "We have to start the game with more energy. We learned some valuable lessons. We can't let the other team dictate what we're going to do."

Maybe Sandman can list the teams Highlands and Cov Cath need to beat to be considered quality wins. Lets hear em.

Oak Hills is not a tough basketball team. And West Lakota is not a good team either. They lost to Hughes which is last in its Conference. It's good to see KY teams beat Ohio teams but Cov Cath should be playing Moeller and St. X to see how they really match up.

How about playing Mason County & Lexington Catholic instead?

As Colonel Crazy stated they have already played LexCath and Mason County! CovCath will also play in the 5th/3rd Tourney and could be playing Christian County or Franklin County then most likely Elliott County and if they win those games, will likely play Mason County again. Not a bad first half of a season schedule. Of course that doesn't include the next game at CovCath on Friday vs. Lex Lafayette, and Saturday vs. Lou St. X in Cincinnati.

Oak Hills is a big and physically strong team year in and year out, however they struggle against teams that play tough and aggresive defense. I saw that this year against covcath and last year when they lost to Brossart at NKU. Yes OG they are the largest public in ohio but can't beat one of Northern Ky's small and one of its 3a (size) schools in Brossart and covcath. Good win for the colonels.

And don't forget the Toyota Classic, which is easiliy one of the premier tournaments in the state.

They played a good schedule so far, but I want to see NKY's "big time" programs match up against Cincy's "big time" programs. I've always said they get better athletes in Ohio but Kentucky schools are coached a lot better.

Would love to see that happen next year when the Bluegrass vs Buckeye moves (or I hope they play there) to The Bank of Kentucky Arena at NKU. Would be a great Arena to play some quality high school games at and I think a lot of the big name Cincinnati School would love to play there too. Now the big question, will NKU keep the cost to rent the Arena reasonable?

What I meant was Lakota West is the better of the two Lakota schools, didn't mean to say either was good by any means. Neither is a contender in the GMC, nor is Oak Hills.

By my standards none of the three are good. By my standards West would be the best of the three, but none are good.

That's not a knock on CovCath's overall schedule as they play the toughest in NKY, no question. It was more of a knock on this particular events schedule. If you want to celebrate a win over Oak Hills as a "big win", have at it. I'd figure CovCath fans are used to more by now.
