Hey now, that isn't right. We all have our love of GCHS and we all feel things differently, I myself have been very negative on some regards but that doesn't keep me from rooting these boys on. It's not for us it's for the boys and we all need to keep that in mind. I don't think we should spend money on Turf IMO but I know a lot of people want it. The money could be used in a better fashion - LIGHTS - SEATS - RESTROOMS - A BETTER LOCKERROOM - but that's just me. Please keep posting on these threads or I will have to follow you to the Raceland site to hear about the recipes and Senior dinners.

Another thought, Middle School or Jr High kids are going through so many changes at this time that is where you loose kids in any activities, school, sports, church, family, etc. This is a hard time for this age child that could be a reason behind. You are right about keeping it fun, with jfl and middle school football it isn't the olympics - I think IMO that parents take it way too seriously.:idunno:

Just a thought, nothing more. Do you believe that the boys get "burned" out by the time they are 9th grade, they have played football since 3rd or 4th grade that is 5 years before getting to high school. Now, don't get mean about it but could this be the case?:idunno:

A very important board meeting scheduled for Monday, February 16th at Argillite Elementary School AT 6:00PM. There will be discussion of the money allotted for the football program. Everyone interested is encouraged to attend. The School Officials also stated that Coach Copely will be at the school on Friday in meetings with the School Officials and talking with the students. Coach Copely will also be at the last regular season Boys Basketball game on Saturday to be introduced to the fans and supporters. Everyone needs to come out and support our program. The more support from the community we have, the better we can have a chance for our children to have the best of all sports programs here at Greenup Co.High School. :thumb: GO MUSKETEERS!!!!!! :clap:

I'm not ready to give up the Green and Gold myself but it does look very good for Raceland, I do wish them well except for....when they play GCHS. I still want to come and eat at your concession stand - I've heard great things about it from Old Rambler and Ram, so I will probably come to Raceland and GCHS game.:thumb:

There will be a Touchdown Club Meeting on Feb. 17 and Coach Copley will be there to meet with all interested people. The TD does have new officers and they will do an excellent job for the program and for the boys of Greenup County. Hope to see you there.:thumb:

I have pictures that are taken on our field and then on Lewis County and it is amazing how dark our field is.

Read in the board minutes that the board has given $30,000 to fixing the field, reseeded, I hope they do something with the lights. This is a very positive step though.

I believe the meeting is still on.

Yes, it was a stupid thing and you could tell that the girl was upset that she did what she did. A GCHS player stold the ball and she just shoved her across the court. It looked worse than what it was.

IMO there must be a loyalty to your school, I guess I'm "old school", where a transfer wasn't allowed under any circumstances. Both of my sons had the opportunity to transfer but both wanted to be Musketeers and felt a loyalty toward their friends and their school. Seems to me that usually it's the parents removal of a child from school not the child removing hisself. I agree about kids being in a negative environment but not all of Greenup Football has been negative, there has been some outstanding players play this past year at GCHS.

We have 6 seniors coming back next fall. Blaylock, Crum, Waugh, Farr, Glynn, and Virgin. Now that Rister went to Raceland will Crum tryout for the QB place?:idunno:

Yes, and I was talking to some teachers there, they are laying off 2-5 teachers this coming year because of budget cuts. This may be a problem.:idunno:

What a wonderful man, his school and his church family are very lucky they have a wonderful man that is working with our young people today, my thoughts and prayers are with everyone connected to this man.

Whatever the situation is, I hope and wish the best to the boy.

Old Rambler, Sidelinedoc, Ram, I do wish Raceland all the best this next year, I don't know if I will be at the Raceland game or not next year, since the boy will graduate in May and I won't have a football player to watch, but I may just show up and eat from your concession stand, I've never done that before. I'm hope you are right and that GCHS does do well.

I don't know if I agree or not, this is Coach Sammons last banquet, it is his time and his time with his football team. I don't think it would be appropriate for this, IMO

Ram, this is for you from a Greenup County Mom Ode to the Offensive Lineman School begins, football starts and fall is in the air. The papers cover local teams to tell us how they’ll fare. Quarterbacks and halfbacks, a running back or two; Safety, ends and kickers, throw in some linemen too. Every mother smiles to see her young son’s name in print. “He’s bound to be a starter!” In Dad’s eye there is a glint. So the first game comes along –my son, he’s on the line. “Dive right”, “cut block”, “quarterback sneak,” he’s in there everytime. We have the plays, players too, everybody reasons. This is the year, there’s no doubt, we’ll have a winning season. The paper lauds the quarterback, his passes are supreme. The wide receiver, there’s a guy—the fastest that we’ve seen. Did you see the many yards gained by the running back? And no one ever will forget the defense on the sack. The linemen on the defense are listed one by one. Numbering every tackle I n the game they won. And so on down the list of plays and scores until they’re done. But—wait a minute! His name’s not there ---I cannot find my son! “Did you do your part?” I ask. “Tell me son, did you play well?” “I am an offensive lineman – there is no more to tell.” And so to offensive linemen – this ode to you I write. Who take your place upon the line and block with all your might? Who give the quarterback the time to throw the perfect pass, And make the hole for the running back to leave’em in the grass? I'm not a very knowledgeable person concerning football, I've watched my sons play for 7 years and really enjoy it now. But my youngest son was a lineman and while getting a scrapbook ready for him I found a poem called Ode to a Lineman, in it there is a line that I love, "If it wasn't for the lineman the quarterback is just a guy in tights". There was nothing sexier than #12 Joe Namath when I was in high school but now I see he needed the lineman there.
