  1. Congrats to Coach Jaggers and good luck to him and the Rockets!
  2. Had a really good QB workout at Elizabethtown HS. Had QBs from Central Hardin, Etown, John Hardin, Meade County, Bullitt Central & North Hardin. Thank you to Coach Tyler Mattingly for hosting! #4thAnd40 🏈 ⚡ 🏈 ⚡ 🏈
  3. The older I get... one of the big pieces in making a head coach hire should be coaching tree. Not the only factor, but should get some considerable weight. That coaching tree will give the admin great insight into the culture they are about to get for their program. Dale Mueller's coaching tree..as good as it get. Like this hire alot. Good luck to Boone County and Coach Court!
  4. My good friend, Coach David Gay, from Grant County, shared the following: Dropping out of the district is a last ditch option to salvage and rebuild your program. There are a few cases in the past where it’s been a good idea and helped some programs get back on their competitive feet. Lawrence County under Billy Goldsmith is the most successful case that comes to mind. More times than not, though, I see a lot of teams do this and it doesn’t translate into competitive improvement in the program. I like the idea of doing away with districts and requiring teams to schedule so many regional games to qualify for post season. This gives everyone the flexibility they need to schedule based on where their program is and what their needs are. It’s still not perfect but it’s light years ahead of where we are now with districts.

  6. I've enjoyed reading the comments. My Dad's first season at Mercer(1974), I think they were not in district play... but back then it was different. Bottom line, they played teams like them, and won 6 games.. first winning season in school history. I think back then that was a good thing for Mercer... BUT back then playoffs were pretty remote for most programs. Only the district champ went and there may have been only 3 or 4 classes. Generally, I would say it is very rare that not playing in the district is a good thing. But, when you say "Never" or "Always" most of the time, you are wrong. After reading the comments here and on facebook, I do think the solution may be doing away with districts and seeding regions by RPI or CalPreps. That way, you are always "in" the system. But, you schedule teams that fit you. If you want in the playoffs, you better play some good teams. Yes, it will be tougher for the really good teams to fill a schedule. They've got the resources and support to make it work and get it done. They will be fine. It will also give them great seeding in November...which is what is most desirable for those programs to begin with.
  7. Hearing rumblings... multiple football programs are talking about dropping out of district play for the coming cycle. When it is a good decision to drop out of district play? The Coaches Office: Behind the Scenes of HS Football w/ Chuck Smith & David Buchanan **And to be clear... Anderson County WILL be playing in the district!

  10. She sure was and was an excellent baby sitter. Sure do miss you guys. Talked to Coach Thomas & Seth Faulkner recently. Shannon Roberts was here in Lawrenceburg a few weeks ago. Wonderful people and a great community we will always love. Tell Elizabeth hello for us. Back on topic.... someday I'm gonna put out a plan you will like. Lol In the early 90's, I remember watching Paris play during the day at the Fieldhouse, in the 10th region tournament. Do you remember that and why that happened? Had there been snow, or was that a plan from the beginning? We can do this!
  11. Also, shout out to my AD, Jesse Currens, at Anderson County HS. The Mason County folks knew how to run a region tournament. Excellent. Fred Hester could run the 10th region tournament in his sleep. Jesse is right there with him w/ the job he is doing with the Girls 8th region. I know he has a good staff around him, just like Coach Hester did back in the day. And, the Mason County admin still does a great job. It is fun to watch people who are really good at what they do. Jesse Currens has got a lot of Fred Hester in him... and that is a good thing.
  12. Guys- Sorry ... I can't let this go. One of my issues... which I got a bunch. Lol What about this.... Play Monday 1st round, one site.....Tuesday, the other site. 4:00 5:30 7:00 8:30 Take a half day if absolutely necessary. Build it into the school calendar as a PD Day that the teachers can pick a training that fits their role in the school the best. Went to Sayre as a young teacher (Paris HS) one Saturday for a History Symposium. Excellent content and a great day to grow as a teacher. The professionalism around the event was exceptional. Probably best PD I ever attended. Most of the PDs I attended that were for the entire faculty...tough for a presenter to provide that type of training across all content areas.... unless it is Billy Goldsmith and he is getting the staff fired up for the start of a new school year!
  13. What is better.... this format? Or, Semifinals on Monday night, followed by Finals on Tuesday night, and all of the travel that goes with it? 16 years later... I still like this plan.
  14. 2023, WVU took a BIG step forward. Coach Neal Brown ‘s idea…. Anderson County Bearcats Football implemented this past Thursday. Also, why the 3-4? Get the scoop when former Danville Admiral, Coach ShaDon Brown, is our guest, TH, 3/7, 7:30!
