Agreed!! Looked like a blocked to me. The defender was not close to being set in my opinion.

Just because it was a violent collision doesn't mean it was a player control foul. If you are going to try to take a charge, you need to be prepared to be hit. I thought it was a good aggressive drive up the sideline by Hightchew.

It was 1 of 150 judgement calls made (or not made) by the officials.

For HHS to be successful, Patrick needs to be the focus of their offense. He was big for Highlands tonight, single handitly kept Highlands in the game. Hard to get on the young man for missing a free throw towards the end. Without him, Highlands gets beat by 20+ tonight.

 

BIG GAME for NCC's Andy Miller. 3 for 4 from beyond the arc and ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM!! Some very well deserved recognition for the young man. He really stepped up in the biggest game of the year so far for the Breds both on the offensive and defensive side of the court.

I know he was injured for a bit and teams make adjustments, but he's the Breds biggest inside offensive threat. He's a freshman, he'll keep improving but they weren't playing Holmes,CCH, Highlands,Dixie in those first few games...and those teams had no tape on him either.

He needs to be involved inside if NCC wants to advance next week. NCC at least needs to ATTEMPT to get the ball inside. It's 3 pointer after 3 pointer with them. Like it was pointed out earlier. BoK is going to take some time getting used to shooting outside. Pound it inside..... that will help set up the outisde jumpers, just my opinion.....

Agree completely. NCC was winning 19-12 and came down and shot 4 straight 3s and didn't come close on any of them. all of a sudden it was 19-15 and Highlands was in the game to stay. Also, Towles gets a foul 3 minutes into the first quarter and the ball NEVER goes inside to at least go at him and try to draw a second foul. As you emphasized, they seldom even look inside, not only for McDonald but Schulte either. At one point Schulte flashed down the lane WIDE open and the wing man with the ball looked right him and made no attempt to pass it to him. Their 3 point shooters don't realize the best way to get good looks for 3s is to go inside out. When the ball goes in, the gaurds colapse and the weak side opens up. At some point the coach has to assume some responsibility for dictating where the ball should go. It was very easy to hear Mike Flynn yelling for the ball to go inside, but NCC seldom calls for that. Granted McDonald is a freshman and Schulte a soph, but at this point seniority doesn't get precedent. If they continue to just let it fly it will be one and out for them.

NCC fans should be thankful for treys as They were 21 of your 49 points.

 

Schulte and McDonald aren't strong enough IMO to demand the ball but They don't even look at them which allows the defense to cut off Hightchew and Beuter penetration. The treys and Siebert shooting off screens is what won the game.

Turner did a great job beating Hightchew to the sideline. Hightchew lowered his head and shoulder and ran straight thru the chest of the defender. The reason he hit his head was that his body was flat when hit by Hightchew and he went straight back to the floor. Burkart then spent the next five minutes trying to explain his call to players and coaches.

 

 

 

The key to the NCC win were the two big treys by Miller. HHS pulled out by 5 and he hits a three. HHS answers to go back up 4 and Andy drains another big shot. Momentum shift to say the least.

 

Congrats to the 2 Ft Thomas boys, Bueter and Miller, that were keys to the Breds victory over Ft Thomas Highlands.

I saw it live and it didnt look bad but seeing the picture it looks like the proverbial knee was used and with the toe pointing that way and the grimace on the Bird player's face I would say it was a missed call.

I disagree. IMO, like stated by others, if NCC would be more selective and take better shoots (not the first 3-point shot) this game is not close. NCC allowed Highlands to hang around. If Towells had any help, the outcome would have been different.

 

NCC needs to transition more and not let the other team setup their defense. This team is much better when they are getting to the middle of the lane looking to dump it off to their bigs for easy baskets. It also allows them to crash the offensive boards for easy stick backs. There are not many teams that have their length (Schulte, McDonald, Seibert).

 

NCC has the potential to win the region, however they need to make some adjustment and go back to their strengths.

Seibert is a Ft Thomas kid also.

I really think the McDonald kid is going to be a dominat player one day. People often place quick and high expectations on young men when they're as big as McDonald. There is a huge difference between 15 and 18 years old kid. I'd love to have this kid at Highlands.
