I disagree. IMO, like stated by others, if NCC would be more selective and take better shoots (not the first 3-point shot) this game is not close. NCC allowed Highlands to hang around. If Towells had any help, the outcome would have been different.

 

NCC needs to transition more and not let the other team setup their defense. This team is much better when they are getting to the middle of the lane looking to dump it off to their bigs for easy baskets. It also allows them to crash the offensive boards for easy stick backs. There are not many teams that have their length (Schulte, McDonald, Seibert).

 

NCC has the potential to win the region, however they need to make some adjustment and go back to their strengths.

 

If they continue to fire up the first 3 they get, which often leads to a miss and long rebound, quicker teams like Holmes will benefit from transition baskets. I agree with others that they have to be more balanced if they are going to contend at BOK for the regional title this year.

Agreed!! Looked like a blocked to me. The defender was not close to being set in my opinion.

Just because it was a violent collision doesn't mean it was a player control foul. If you are going to try to take a charge, you need to be prepared to be hit. I thought it was a good aggressive drive up the sideline by Hightchew.

It was 1 of 150 judgement calls made (or not made) by the officials.

Nope, not my property but it was confirmed. No big deal really. In fact the NCC coaches showed great sportsmanship by assisting to Turner who got Trucked big time.

Let it go. It was a block. The refs were not the reason NCC won and HHS lost. Highlands (Towells) played hard and came up a little short. Fact is they got a better draw in the regional tournament.

Ok, so it sounds like it wasn't reviewed by you, correct? If it was rewinded 5 times, it doesn't seem as though it was 'clearly a charge'. Again, it was a judgement call. From where I was sitting, it didn't look like the HHS player had his feet set at all. With him still moving his feet it doesn't matter how hard he gets hit, it is still a block. Not only did he get drilled, he got called for the block. Can you say double whammy?

Aside from the play in question, do you really believe that your feet need to be set for a charge to be called? And conversely, that if your feet are set that it must be a charge? I sure don't. It comes down to body postiion of the ballhandler versus the defender. I agree that it is always a judgement call, but your "his feet weren't set "statement doesn't work for me.

By definition - Yes.

 

A quick google search for a definition of a charge brought back this:

 

Charging- an offensive foul which occurs when an offensive player runs into a defender who has established position.

 

Established position - when a defensive player has both feet firmly planted on the floor before an offensive player's head and shoulder get past him; the offensive player who runs into such a defender is charging.

 

However, I am not an official, even though I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once, I'm sure there are interpretations, hence, a judgement call. But to the letter of the law I would say that your feet need to be established in order to make it easier for the official to make a charging call.

 

Just my thought.

LOL I didnt know we were going to have this much controversy. I just brought it up because it was reviewed several times on films and clearly should have been Ryles a charge but to be honest Bob Burkart, the referee, was out of position all night and wasnt anywhere near the play and made the block call. Its okay people, NCC won Fair and square and unfortunately will have to beat a hot CovCath team to continúe their quest. They are my second favorite pick but I think Its Boone Co or Holmes.
