Bishop Brossart 48 Highlands 39

Recommended Posts

:notworthy: Announcer Todd Schafer plays a variety of music during the basketball games at Bishop Brossart. Prince's 1999 might have been the most appropriate tonight. In 1999 Bill Clinton was President, the Euro was established and Shakespeare in Love won the Academy Award. That was the last season Bishop Brossart won the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference Division II Championship. Thanks to the Lady 'Stangs 48-39 win over Highlands on Wednesday and St. Henry's 56-51 win over Newport Central Catholic, Brossart sits atop the Standings at 8-1 as the season conference schedule ends. NCC had previously beat St. Henry 40-24 in the 9th Region All “A” Championship in January.

The Lady 'Stangs, now 23-6 on the season, added the title as another notch on a long list of accomplishments so far this season by Coach Josh Feldmann's young team including a win over Campbell Co. 53-42 in the Crosstown Shootout, A 10th Region Touchstone Energy All “A” Region Championship, A Third Place Finish in the Touchstone Energy All “A” State Championships, the Top Seed in the 37th District, a 3rd Place Finish in the Owensboro Invitational, the 37th District Junior Varsity Championship, the 37th District Freshmen Championship....the list keeps growing.

Tonight the “Women of Feldmann” took care of business against NKAC Foe Highlands and produced their first win over the Lady Birds since a 67-61 win on December 15, 2006.

It was a battle early in the game as the two teams battled to an 11-11 tie after the first period in a game in which the lead would exchange hands only three times and be tied 4 times.

Highlands controlled a lot of the second period and took a 20-16 lead into the locker room at intermission.

However the Lady 'Stangs were just getting started. They did a great job taking care of the basketball (8 turnovers) while forcing the Lady Birds into 19 mishaps. One of the interesting facts of the game was that Highlands outshot Brossart by 13% from the floor and also outrebounded BBHS but Brossart found a way to win with defense and connecting on 20 free throws.

Bishop Brossart sophomore Sarah Futscher, turned in a strong game for her team with 15 points and five rebounds. Junior Rachel Hartig scored 12 points and had a game high 6 steals of the swarming defense. They had 14 steals as a team to just 7 for Highlands. Sophomore Abby Stadtmiller chimed in with 7 points. Most of the game stats were close. Brossart did have a 13-9 edge in points off the bench.

The Lady 'Stangs outscored their conference counterparts 32-19 in the second half with the largest lead being the final score. Highlands was only able to close the gap to four late in the game.

Highlands falls to 15-13 on the season.

In junior varsity action, Brossart beat Highlands 33-26 led by 8 points from junior Maddi Kues and 5 from sophomore Alex Roberts.

Brossart has one game remaining in the regular season at St. Patrick friday. Brossart beat St. Patrick 45-29 to win the All “A” Championship in January. The District starts for Brossart next Tuesday at Campbell Co. Middle School vs either Scott or Silver Grove.

Tonight before the final home game the entire team was honored in a ceremony. It wasn't Senior Night after all. The Lady 'Stangs have no seniors making their accomplishments even more impressive.

Congratulations to Coach Josh Feldmann and his staff on a great run....with more hopefully to come.

First, I want to congratulate the Lady 'Stangs for tying for the conference title. A great feat by a very good team. But, and I know many of you are going to find this absolutley SHOCKING, BGH was inaccurate with his facts. Actually, it wasn't 1999 (where we got all the "interesting" facts of that year!) that the Lady 'Stangs last won the conference. They went undefeated in the conference in 2001 when Katie Schwegmann and the team won the Regional title. Since BGH seems to know all the facts all the time, I thought that maybe he should do a bit more work before giving his rendition of the history of a specific year.

Congrats on the win, but it looks like they are co-champs of the conference according to the enquirer.

Wednesday’s win was Brossart’s first against Highlands since Dec. 15, 2006, and clinched a tie with St. Henry for the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference Division II championship.

“We’re 7-1 in the conference with a loss to St. Henry, and they have one conference loss, and we’re both done with conference play,” Brossart coach Josh Feldmann said. “Something like that builds your confidence and gives you momentum.”

It’s the first time in 13 years that the Mustangs have won at least a share of the conference title. “It feels pretty amazing,” Hartig said.

First of all - how does anyone know what music is being played at BBHS - they have the worst PA system on the planet.

Second - BBHS 7-1, Cru 7-1 - Cru def BBHS head to head. Pretty easy to figure out who the real champ is.

Wow...you really don't like Brossart, do you?! Or is it just BGH that you don't like? I can't figure it out. :idunno:

Anyway, congrats to the Lady Stangs on a great season so far! Not happy that you beat up my Bluebirds last night but it's all good.

Why is it a tie? Isn't Holy Cross and Beechwood both division 2? Both teams beat the cru that would give them 2 loses in conference. Sorry to give BGH more bragging rights if I'm correct. Congrats to both teams on great seasons good luck in postseason.

It's because there's nothing to figure out. I simply tell it like it is. I have no ax to grind, I have no dog in the fight. Other people are posting the same thing I am on the head-to-head with Cru. And BBHS does absolutely have the worst PA system - they know it, and anyone who's been there knows it.

As I have previously posted, for the record - BBHS will be an absolute bona fide contender able to compete with and beat anyone - next year. I just think this year they are still too young. Their experience this year will make them great next year.

NKYfan96 is correct I do believe. Brossart finished 7-1 in the conference (its lone loss coming against St. Henry as the NewCath game in the All 'A' doesn't count as a "conference" game) and St. Henry finished 6-2, losing to Beechwood (which is Division II this year) and Holy Cross.

- Richard Skinner

Your NKAC winners are:

Division I: Dixie boys, Boone girls

Division II: Holy Cross boys, Brossart girls

Division III: Dayton or Ludlow (they play this Friday) boys, Villa Madonna girls

But, must admit - Bishop Brossart has the BEST "National Anthem" singer around - Todd Schafer. If you haven't gotten the pleasure in listening to him sing at a game -you have certainly missed out. He does a great job and also does the announcing with the PA system he has been given to use.

I agree! I also do love when kids get the opportunity to do it too. I've heard some great ones at New Cath and Highlands this year.

FYI, I'm hearing The Sy Dome may be getting a new sound system in the near future??????

If they tied for conference mark with St. Henry then they do not win conference. The tie is broken because St. Henry wins it outright with head to head victory.

St. Henry took two conference losses - Beechwood and Holy Cross. The Beechwood loss was their opening game of the season.

By beating NCC last night the Cru did the Lady Stangs a favor by tagging the Breds with their second conference loss and giving Brossart the D-II conference title outright.

RE: The Brossart Sound System, which does vie for world's worse. Help is on the way!!!!

When you come to Alexandria next season, or for volleyball season, a brand new, high-quality sound system will be in place, financed by friends of the program who couldn't stand listening to our present product any longer. I'm anxious to hear what Todd Schafer will sound like singing the National Anthem over a clear system.

That is true the final top three are Bishop Brossart 7-1, St. Henry 6-2, and NCC 6-2. However, in the NKAC Constitution if two or even three teams do tie, unlike District and seeding situations, there is no provision for tiebreakers so both team or all three would be Co Champions. So changeup is wrong. THE NKAC President told me that firsthand. The first report last night they forgot Beechwood this year had moved "up" to Division II. St. Henry lost to them in the very first game of the year.

I'm not the one posting immature comments all over this site. That would be very unprofessional, unlike some people who should certainly know better in the postion they hold. Once again, shame on you for acting in such a manner.
