Dixie Heights 73 Covington Catholic 59

See my previous posts several weeks ago, the 4 guard and one center set for CCH would not be effective in games against teams like Holy Cross and Dixie. Tonight CCH looked best with Hayden and Bo Schuh in at the same time. But that set only lasted a few minutes before the guards re- populated the floor. I was really hopeful at the beginning of the season because CCH was playing a high speed transition game that gave them a chance to be competitive. But now they are simple to defend. They walk it up the court, try to force it down to Tobler and if thats available a guard launches up a three.
should have been -- "if that's NOT available launch up a three."

It's hard to say CCH looked their best with two players that only played a few minutes combined.

I'd argue Tobler didn't get enough touches tonight. They had success early getting him good looks and went away. Had success early in the 3rd then threw two bad passes and went away again. He's the only post presence they have.

You're a fan of seniors playing. I thought Conner Cleves gave a lot of good minutes tonight. My guess is it's the most minutes he's played this year.

I'd suggest that some players not give the coach the "stink eye" when they're removed and not do a blow-by when he sticks his hand out when you're coming off of the floor.

I thought that was the whole idea of hiring a new coach, to get rid of the Kenny Shields, Dan Tieman, Mike Listerman half court style of basketball????

I am a fan of using the talent (at any age) you have to be competitive in the big games. Half court offense with Tobler as your post man is not going to win the ninth region IMO. Thelen was a good big post man last year. How did that work out?

Silly comparison.

CCH struggled on the perimeter last season - their inside game carried them. You need both.

Plus, Tobler isn't the focal point of the offense.

Lack of consistent outside shooting is the key issue right now.

This team isn't beating Dixie. Too many matchup problems. Dixie didn't play that well tonight and still had a 20 point lead. Different level right now.

I agree Clyde, esp with the bolded part. I have noticed it in a couple games this year. Worst part IMO is it even extends to how the interactions go between team mates, not just the coaches.

BTW the CovCath Chamber Choir did an outstanding job of singing the National Anthem tonight!:notworthy: Congrats gentlemen a job well done!

I just don't understand why Mr. Rowe and or the CovCath administration doesn't have these student sing the National Anthem more often at not only the basketball games but the football games as well.

Scary thing is that I didn't think they looked that great offensively tonight. I'd like to see the film to see if my memory is correct. It certainly wasn't Brandon Hatton's best performance.

I did see what I've been hoping to see with an aggressive Jordan Fox. That kid can dominate if he chooses to.

I've said all along if Jordan Fox becomes more aggressive, no team in the region will have a chance against Dixie. He becomes very tough to defend when he takes initiative to get himself and teammates involved. I've noticed he also moves very well without the ball for easy baskets.

Let's not go there guys....this team is doing the best they can considering everything that has transpired over the last couple of seasons - they have a new coach, they are adjusting to a new system, it is a very young team (that hasn't seen much varsity time), - there are only 3 seniors to guide them. This is not a punky group of kids. They are doing the best they can considering the circumstances. Frankly, I've been impressed by the composure and positive attitude coming from the 3 seniors - despite the fact that they are not the key players this year. This team just has to work out the kinks. Everybody knew this was going to be a development year. The attitude of this team and respect they give to each other and their new coaching staff (despite everything that has happened) is 10X better than under the old regime.

Very balanced game by Dixie. The have the best starting 5 that I have seem this year in the 9th. Their experience showed, CCH made a nice come back to get it within 4 when Dixie went through a few minutes of poor shooting strech but the maintained composure and brought the lead back to 12 or so. CCH doesn't have that "experience" they get down and feel like they need to force things.
