Holmes really doesn't travel all that well. Throw ok the weather and you get a somewhat thin crowd tonight.

Being a Holmes grad, i can speak from experience that Holmes never travels well. Most of Holmes crowd on the road are usually made up of alums. Its diasspointing students don't take pride in their school anymore.

Don't forget about the cherry sour straws too .

We got Larosas after the game out on Houston Rd and I'm taking her up to the Monroe Outlets today to do some shopping. I'm not a fan of concession food but she absolutely loves it. I don't see how she can eat that stuff all the time and stay as small as she is.

Spot on. There's a group of football players who usually go to a lot of the games but that's it. When I was in school I can remember Holmes always having a big student section for big games at home and there always being a decent following.

Back to the game, I think the Holmes coaching staff should get a lot of credit. They have seen a lot of attrition the past two years but they keep plugging the "next man in" and getting results. Both Bolden and Waller gave really good mins last night and Wilson even got in for a few mins and played well.

Amison, Herndon, and now Knox all started the year with the team but are no longer with them...don't ask why, cause i honestly don't know.

Newport Central Catholic erased an 8-point lead in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter, but Holmes held on in overtime for a 64-60 win Friday Night in Newport.

Junior guard Michael Bueter completed the Thoroughbreds' fourth-quarter comeback with a basket following a steal by Andy Miller to tie the score, 51-51.

Senior forward Dontel Rice scored four points in overtime as Holmes led the entire time.

Rice also had eight points in the fourth quarter, making 11 of 16 free throws to finish with a game-high 27 points.

Junior guard B. J. Coston added 14 points for the Bulldogs.

Holmes had wiped out an eight point lead itself, as NewCath jumped out to a 17-9 lead after one quarter.

Senior guard Brady Hightchew led the Thoroughbreds with 16 points. Bueter and senior guard Zach Ryan added 12 points each.

Did anyone notice a group of 5 or 6 Holmes fans who would not even stand up, let alone take off their caps during the national anthem? I thought it was disgraceful!!

Huge win for Holmes, NCC has been a thorn in the dogs side the past few years.

I wonder how much Listerman attributed to this win? Is he a bench coach? If anyone knows how to win on the hill against the Breds it would be him. Probably had a little bit of input to say the least.

Coach L has been a great addition to the Holmes staff. He is constantly motivating the kids during timeouts and when a player comes out, both he and Bud Wimzie will take the time to sit them down and talk to them to keep their heads right.

Holmes has one of the best staffs in the state.

How did jv do?

Holmes blew an 8 pt lead and jv won by 6 or 7.

NewCath JV led 14-11 after 1st quarter, 24-20 at half, 3rd quarter I was "yapping" in the concession area, & the final was NC 48-41.

Did Bolden play jv? If so how did Bolden and the Pangallo kid do against each other.

IMO Pangallo definitely got the better of Bolden. I don't believe Bolden guarded Pangallo in the second half due to foul trouble. Pangallo did a great job handling the ball and leading his team. I would be interested in seeing the box score. I would guess Pangallo had 15-18 pts and Bolden maybe 4-6. These two will be fun to watch for three more years. Both are extremely quick.

Newcath really game out shooting hot from outside tonight and that helped propel them to an early 21-9 lead. Once that shooting cooled off, it became the Dontel Rice show. He was a man among boys out there tonight. Drew a lot of fouls and single handedly got Newcath in foul trouble by being aggressive and attacking. Breds had no answer for his size or athleticism.

Once Holmes got the lead late in third quarter, they were able to build some momentum and build a 9 pt lead after Coston drained a 3 with 347 left. Missed free throws a.d turnovers allowed Newcath to get back in the game though. Digs had a 4 pt lead with under a minute to go but back to back turnovers allowed Newcath to tie it.

With 15 seconds left, Waller gets bumped out of bounds (clear foul) and he turns it over. Breds hold for last shot but Beuter 16 footer is off the rim.

I'm OT miller gave the Breds a 2 pt lead with a trey but Holmes would regain the lead again and never look back. Dontel Rice got two huge rebounds in OT that allowed the Dogs to seal the deal at the line.

A few thoughts:

1. Officiating was absolutely HORRIBLE...9 fouls called in 4 mins ito start the second half. Both teams had a lot go against them and a lot that didn't get called.

2. Dontel Rice is jands down top 2 in the region. When they clear out and let him go to work, he is either going to draw a foul, get a bucket, or find a teammate for an easy basket. Holmes let him go one on one a lot tonight and Breds had no answer. 14 and 10 first half...13-7 second half.

3. Breds were very balanced tonight with Hightchew leading the way. Don't like his mental approach but kid has game and is tough.

4. Newcath killed Holmes in the first half on the boards. Dogs players were just standing around and Newcath took advantage. Credit Holmes coaching staff for making proper adjustments.

5. Holmes was missing Knox and Tre Lewis tonight...not sure why.

6. Martin and Coston were huge tonight. Martin played well entire game but Coston really picked it up second half. Newcath was very balanced.

Myabe yuo cuodl try reading your txet befor you post. The digs were the better team tonight and I'm OT they showed it.
