PurplePride92
Even I wouldn't still press if I was up 78.

Qryche11
I have seen some aau teams press up big like this but not 78 points . If I was the coach I might get physical with the other coach at That point. .

sportsfan41
So you think it's right to press when you are up by 78 points in the 4th quarter? It doesn't matter. Who the hell are you or myself for that matter to judge? Often times we get half a story and even then is it really our responsibility to judge people? Is this going to scar someone for life? Are people never going to be the same because of this? The answer is no. Were you ticked when UK was beating Marist 120-40? Life goes on.

The answer is no. Were you ticked when UK was beating Marist 120-40? Life goes on. The whole story is in the link. Spurrier was trying to get his boys in playing shape in February. I am a fan of playing hard to the end but like I said...I wouldn't have pressed up 78. I'd have called off the press after getting up 30-40 points and my 2 best players would have not played a minute in the second half. Do I think less of Spurrier? No. I would have shown a little bit of compassion though. I don't think the score is the issue. It's the press still being applied when up rather comfortably that bothered everybody. Whether or not someone is going to be "scared for life" or if people are "never going to be the same" doesn't make it right. If someone is going to press when they are up by 78 points then they should be judged. When you make dumb decisions like that.....that's what happens. I'm not real sure what Marist and UK have to do with the conversation. If UK pressed when they were up 78 points, it would be wrong no matter what the reason. madman
Total lack of class! How do you think the 2 kids who were left sitting on the bench felt?
Ramona
There is no way to justify pressing at that margin. None.
Clyde
A coach once told me during a game after seeing something that he didn't like that if it happened again "they'll have to take me out of here in 'cuffs." That's sort of how I would probably be in this situation.

doomer
There is absolutely no excuse for it, and it is a poor example of sportsmanship. Continuing to press and leaving two subs on the bench probably hurt the losing teams chance to have subs come in and at least have some reasonable opportunity to succeed. I am not one of those who would tell kids on the winning team not to play hard and try to score, especially those coming off the bench. But, a press is intended to speed up the game and create turnovers....not what you need to do up 78. Sports are about competing, fitness, sportsmanship, relationships, teaching and learning and this example leaves out a few of those IMO.
