PurpleHaze Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 With me it was before I even knew about BGP....PH would talk about people named Guru, Birdsfan, Rockmom, Gold sunrise etc.....I would wonder what kind of friends he was hanging around when I was at WKU and working.....Then, PH ended up in the hospital where we found out he was going to have to have amputations. He wanted me to let all his friends know about what was going on....That is when I found out about BGP and all of these people with abnormal names LOL....PH ended up with pages and pages of prayers and many phone calls, gifts, cards, etc....When we finally got home from the hospital on his last amputation, that is when I became a member. I had already made so many friends on this site and was so very addicted, that I just had to become a member....This is not a site, we are not friends, WE ARE FAMILY....I GOT ALL MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS AND ME....

PurpleHaze Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 A former member, FSCat, was very impressed with a list I came up with that ranked the 30 winningest programs during the 1990s (not by championships, but by win percentage in all games). He asked if he could use it on a site called BluegrassPreps.com, and I gave him the OK. He said that it generated a whole bunch of chatter on the thread and stayed at the top of the Football Forum for over two weeks! He said that the members were very impressed with the work, and he strongly encouraged me to join, and so did many others of whom I never heard of. I was welcomed with open arms by many folks, and I took to them immediately. Shortly afterward, I had both of my legs amputated due to loss of blood circulation (January and March of 2004), and the response of the folks was overwhelming in support and encouragement. I drew strength from that. That is when I really became hooked on the site. Mrs PH is right...the folks weren't just friends...they became an extended family! Thanx to this site, I have met many of the family at various games, and they come from all across the Commonwealth! I'm twistin' in your honor...thanx for all the memories made and the memories we'll make in the future! :dancingpa:dancingpa:dancingpa:dancingpa
Devilman Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Before I joined I got hooked by just browsing, then it reeled me in.
theguru Posted February 11, 2012 Author Posted February 11, 2012 BTW, can a mod help me. I really would like to have my old username back, but was never able to figure out how to do it. What would I need to do to get it back since it was under my deceased fathers paypal account? Someone could PM me if they feel like that's a better way to communicate on this. Send me a PM and we can take a look at it.
Jim Schue Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Reading the late LSURock's posts. I believe he spent some time in the sin bin, too. :thumb: Another dearly departed was All Thumbs, who was one of our great WKy posters, and never at a loss for a joke. Thanks for being a part of our lives, guys -- you won't be forgotten.
Jim Schue Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 At the most, a week, but probably after a day or so. For a little background: I was first aware of it about a year prior to my joining. I used to work with a former BGPer, TomSportsHack, who spent much time at the office visiting the boards. I may have even had him look up some info about my old high school, but I'm not sure. Went to a few HS games that year, then lots more the next year, and I joined then so as to get back up to speed on HS sports statewide. Have met many folks I consider "real-world friends" (as I try to explain it to my parents who are very computer illiterate, and blissfully so) -- some very close, and many I've not met in person whom I'm sure would be fast friends as well. It's been a great thing.

Jim Schue Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Whatever happened to that guy? Not sure. We lost touch and I've not spoken to him in years.
PepRock01 Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Not sure. We lost touch and I've not spoken to him in years. That's too bad, I always enjoyed talking to him. Met him at Mr. Network's gathering a few years ago.

It was such a horrible loss for our BGP family.
Lawnboy13 Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I got on to promote a relative who was a great basketball player because I heard college coaches read BGP. I was hooked from my first couple days. You already got an earful from my wife Guru so you know how much she loves it. She calls it the OTHER WOMAN. Likewise when we talk to "the Ru" at Bengals games my wife does the same. Although she calls it "FACEBOOK FOR MEN". Got hooked about 5 years ago, but got on as a guest for the first 3, since becoming a member I'm on everyday. I would just like say as BGP members we might agree, disagree, or agree to disagree with others. However it has been a blast sharing our opinions with one another. Over the last year I've had the pleasure of meeting and PM'ing Qryche11, Walter, Clyde, paNDA, WVFrank, BIGBLUENATION, dennis12b, statman, Baseball Nut 24, statmanhensley, memyselfandi, lawildcat, ABC2, of course our illustrious leader (sorry if I missed anyone). Although we might not see eye to eye I consider you a friend and have enjoyed our conversations.
Colonels_Wear_Blue Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Probably took me about a month to get addicted. I got my subscription as a way to get more details about NKY football and also intending to hopefully hear a little more about the goings on in Cov Cath basketball as I often have a hard time getting to the games. It's turned into much much more than that.
Moken Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I'm not addicted, I just can't stop reading and posting!!!!!
