Unemployment

Featured Replies

I'm oblivious to the argument or viewpoints of it but I think you answered the question yourself in the first statement.

The baby boomers are retiring at an alarming rate and I have no doubt it may even surpass the number of people "coming of age in the work force." Just consider the birth rates dropping in our society versus what they are versus the numbers of the baby boomers.

If that were the case, wouldn't we have employers out there begging for workers? I'm not seeing that or hearing about it anywhere.

2.5 million deaths ? :idunno:
2.5 million deaths gives you an an increase of 233,000 jobs? Hmmm.... smiley-think005.gif

Not really because most employers are trying to cut their budgets so they take a 2 position job and make it 1. See most local school systems for the biggest example of that one.

Not buying that more people are retiring then entering the job force. Maybe it's true but without some numbers to back it up it just doesn't seem realistic.

So, it's not getting better, correct.

Then, as jvdfc said, things aren't getting better. Which leads be to believe it's election year spin.

I was being Facetious, sarcastic and stochastic all at the same time .

The only jobs Obama or any president creates are Gov't jobs. I say we pay the Prez, the Senate, & Congress a $1,000,000 a year to "not do a single thing and stay out of our way" and I bet things improve drastically for the better.

Completely agree.

Fine with me. I'm not an Obama supporter.

Government jobs have declined 2.6 percent under Obama, somewhere between 5 and 6 hundred thousand. To suggest that he has grown the government is silly. So he gets it from both ends. He has to shrink the government (cut jobs) and yet create jobs. When he shrinks the government payroll it raises the the unemployment. Kind of tough isn't it.

78 million baby boomers out there or 26% of the US population per 2006. (1946-1964)

Behner says 10,000 Baby Boomers are retiring every day and the number will be that way for 19 years.

http://www.politifact.com/ohio/statements/2011/sep/26/john-boehner/house-speaker-john-boehner-says-10000-baby-boomers/

A 2010 Pew Research Center study says baby boomers comprise 26 percent of the total U.S. population. After 2030 - when that generation reaches retirement age - Pew projects that 18 percent of the nation’s population will be over age 65, compared with 13 percent today.

Census data collected by Pew indicates the estimated number of retires could be even greater than 10,000 per day. According to Pew’s data, 76 million people were born in the United States between 1946 and 1964. After subtracting those who died and adding immigrants born during those years, America has 79.6 million people of that generation.

If you divide 79.6 million by 19 years (the number remaining until 2030), then divide that by 365 days, you get a daily average of 11,476 people turning 65. Although not everyone in that age group will live to reach age 65, the amount who will end up retiring each day could significantly exceed Boehner’s 10,000 per day figure.
