February 2, 201214 yr No, only that GOP voters aren't particularly enthusiastic with their options and don't appear to be completely sold on Romney, which is atypical for someone in his shoes. Though, I don't think these are very good candidates for the general election either, but that's an entirely different argument. I used to think that would make the difference but I'm starting to wonder, given the weakness in Obama's numbers and the economy. This is shaping up to be a horse race but obviously that can change quickly.

This is shaping up to be a horse race but obviously that can change quickly. I think the economy will be the overriding factor in the election. I also think it's easy to overstate the degree to which each matchup differs between candidates. Realistically, the margins between each candidate are probably very slight. But in a tight election even something that small can be very significant.
February 2, 201214 yr Sounds like Donald Trump is expected to endorse Gov. Romney today. That has to help him with the "far right", right?

February 2, 201214 yr I must be way out of touch. Donald Trump appeals to the "far right"? Actually, if memory serves me right, he was flirting with the Tea Party all summer.
February 2, 201214 yr I must be way out of touch. Donald Trump appeals to the "far right"? I'd say him being one of the main champions of the "birther" movement would make it a pretty safe bet.
February 2, 201214 yr Florida is not a state I would base anything on just because of its diversity. I would think states like SC, AL, GA would be better reads for how Gov Romney's standing with those that consider themselves "far right" or "evangelical." Florida is a diverse state; that's for certain. Romney's success there probably is not indicative as to how Romney will do in some of the states you mentioned. But I do think it is indicative as to how Romney would do in the general. If anything, Romney should do better in the general with the far right or evangelical given the fact that the alternative will be President Obama. Would you agree? I know Romney has to win the primary first, and I'm not one of those that think such is a given at this point, but I can certainly see why the President Obama supporters would love for Gingrich to win the primary and are currently taking their shots at Romney. I think every Republican vote for Gingrich in the primary in effect is a vote for President Obama in the general.

Something to consider as we move to the next state to hold their primary, Nevada. President Obama won the state in 2008. There is no chance he wins it again this election if Gov. Romney is the nominee (if for no other reason than their large contingent of practicing Mormons). I don't recall the final count of electoral votes, but I can't think of one state that I was "surprised" to see Sen. McCain carry in 08. I think Gov. Romney wins every state he did in 2008, then can make serious headway in quite a few of the "toss-up" states that the other candidates would not be able to do against President Obama.
February 2, 201214 yr Gingrich is making it absolutely impossible for me to comprehend why anyone would ever consider supporting his campaign. Yesterday his campaign leaked news that Donald Trump was backing him, then today they say they did no such thing, and of course Trump endorses Gov. Romney. After losing in Florida, he showed his complete lack of class by refusing to call Gov. Romney, the customary practice in every election. Now the crybaby idiot is saying that Florida should reward him some of their delegates, instead of a winner-take-all format, which he agreed to beforehand. The guy is a complete loser. How does anyone support him?
