That's what is great about Calipari, and why the young guys get better, unless they are dogging it, he lets them play through their mistakes. Now there's a fine line there, but you have to let players know that mistakes will be accepted. Now, three weeks from now, yeah, you should know as a coach who you can depend on heading into districts. The least mistake prone will get the bulk of the time.

The P.A. guy last night had to be exhausted and dizzy after announcing all the substitutions Ryle had - ridiculous! Not to discredit a very good Holmes team, but Ryle's coach gave his team zero chance to win or for that matter even compete in that game.

Exactly, playing tight, a fear being pulled for missing a shot or making a "mistake" under 2 minutes into a game is not conducive to getting the best out of your players.

If Mullins was yanking guys left and right, maybe he has been patient, coached them up and they still make mistakes. So perhaps he chose to have a zero tolerance approach in last night's game. I don't know either. I wasn't at the game. Just talking about what ifs and coaching approach in general. Actually, in last night's UK game I saw Coach Cal yanking guys for mistakes. I think there does come a point (as you said at the end of your post) when the players should be getting it so the least mistake prone players get more PT.

At half this game was 53 to 16. Mullins was angry early on as Holmes was just walzing through Ryles defense. Most of Holmes points came either 1 foot from the rim or from the 3 point range. It was far too easy. How do you not pull players?

 

Ryle made adjustments at half which resulted in a much better game, from what I saw Ryle moved the ball with quick passes and easy buckets underneath. Hardly any outside shots were even attempted by Ryle. When you are down 53 to 16 at half it is pretty admirable for the team to stick together and make the run they did. Ryle is having a tough year and the best coach in the world is probably not going to help them now.

 

Ryle did come from behind and win in the JV game, if you are looking for a positive there it is.

Stuhr is a sophomore who is doing really well. Think this might be the first varsity game he has played. He is going to be a great player.

Bolden is one good player!! Have to love that he is only a freshman.

 

Best half of basketball by Holmes this year, 3 monster dunks by Rice, one was a steal by Bolden who threw it off the glass for a Rice dunk, Rice had 18 at the half and finished with 26, Holmes defense was outstanding tonight.

Any team on any night. These regional teams might not be scary good overall, but any one of them has a shot to get hot on any given night and be scary good!

There isn't a team in this region scary good. I saw the Holy Cross game. Not even close to a scary performance.
