January 22, 201214 yr ^ Heck, that's a GREAT time to go. Mason County team has been twice in the last 4 or 5 years. Not me, though.
January 22, 201214 yr I have been to three of the islands. Maui was far and away the best of them. It is much more resort feeling....you know, frozen drinks, live music, relaxation, etc...the Big Island is super quiet, and chill. Oahu (where Honolulu is), is big city, nightlife, tourist attractions (Pearl Harbor)......three completely different cups of tea.
January 22, 201214 yr Big island. Great place. Maui--eat at Mamas fish house. Seems touristy at first, but great food and great view. Getting there is brutal unless you go first class.
January 22, 201214 yr Hopefully not during basketball season. Go in the fall and he can hit up the Hawaii Invitational which always has some great College teams including 2 teams from last years final four one of which was the eventual Champion.
January 22, 201214 yr Mama's Fish House remains the best meal that I have ever eaten. Agreed! Also wise to get reservations prior to going. The spouse and I had reservations but stopped in on the way back from Hana. We could not get a table, but decided to belly up to the bar for a drink. One turned into another. We ended up ordering dinner at the bar. It was fabulous. Also ran us over $250.00. Well worth it. Maui and the big island both have Tommy Bahamas restaurants, also very good places to eat!
January 22, 201214 yr Yeah, my wife and I had reservations, I think our tab got to about $400.....that $70 scotch didn't help the scenario.
January 22, 201214 yr Been to Oahu stayed at Turtle Bay (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) on the North Shore back in 96. Palmer Course was awesome (but may have been redesigned since then), The Links at Turtle Bay. Took a late night drive around the island with my wife and it was great just being out driving around the island along the coast. The Dole plantation is great if you love Pineapple, pineapple starts breaking down as soon as it is cut in the field so as you can imagine the pineapple straight out of the field is better than any thing you can get here. We did the tourist luau (sp?) but food wasn't great, we went to Burger King afterwards. Plane trip is by FAR the worst part of going to Hawaii.
