January 23, 201214 yr I am not looking to golf. I lean more towards the beach, zipline, kayaking, biking, hiking, and seeing the small towns. Then Maui is the place for you. Mrs C and I have been 8 times. If you've never been and don't know if you'll ever go back, then I would go for 10 days, 2 in Honolulu and 8 on Maui. Pearl Harbor is worth the visit. January 23, 201214 yr Looks like Maui and Kauai will get most of our attention. Whales are there roughly first week of Feb thru first week of Apr. Most of the best beaches and snorkeling are on the south side by Kihei.

January 23, 201214 yr Ka'anapali is the the resort west end of the island. It is beautiful and is totally resort. Very nice, very expensive, but if you want luxury, it's the place to be. Personally not my favorite as there is really only one good snorkle spot ( I snorkle or dive almost everyday) and the beaches are not as nice, but you are right on the ocean. Mrs C and I tyically rent a condo in Kihei. If you go here, make sure you go south of Charlie Young park. Here you will get a nice clean condo/apartment across the street from the nicest beaches in the world. They all have pools and tennis courts, but they are not resorts. You do have a full kitchen, washer & dryer, and pretty much everything you need. Mrs C and I prefer this as we like to eat breakfast and lunch in and then go out for a nice dinner. We personally prefer to save money on the accomodations and spend it on the activities. The place we always stay is a 1 bedroom, is less than a 2 minute walk to the beach, is convenient to shopping and restaurants, and is around $800 for a week. http://flyinhawaiianzipline.com/ http://bossfrog.com/ If you don't mind sitting through a 90-120 minute time share presentation, you can save a ton on activities.
January 23, 201214 yr Words of warning. The Hawaiian sun does not feel hot the way Florida does. It is easy to get out in the sun and cook to a crisp and not realize it until it's too late. Wear sunscreen at all times. Also, look for the sunscreens that are coral safe. The reefs are living, breathing things. Many of the standard sunscreens contain chemicals harmful to coral.
