I have never understood the full logic behind who is in what region. And then they change depending on the sport???

These HAVE had an appearance I know- Campbell,Harrison,Pendleton,Fleming,and Montgomery

None in the first or second regions either. A couple of them were harder than others to track down. Ballard County you have to go back to Wickliffe and LaCenter in the 20s. Crittenden County you have to go back to Shady Grove and Tolu in the 30s.

Looks to me like Butler County out of the third region has never had one. If they did, it's a super obscure name that I can't figure out. The current high school was formed from Morgantown High and Rochester High, neither of which ever won a regional title. Other major town is Woodbury, also not listed. Also searched for smaller towns of Provo, Logansport, Huntsville, Silver City, Quality, Sugar Grove, Sharer, Monford, Brooklyn, Welchs Creek, Dunbar, and Roundhill. Dunbar was the only name that hit, and that's clearly Paul Laurence Dunbar out of Lexington.

1928 Ashland 13 to 11 with 4 OT's against Carr......Must have been some serious stall ball.

1967 Earlington

 

Could have been Breathitt County that year. They led Earlington the entire game in the semifinals until Earlington caught them in the final minutes after the Bobcats got into foul trouble. I think Breathitt lost just one time in the regular season.

Perry County (Hazard) and Knott County (Hindman and Carr Creek) are the only state champions from my region, the 14th.

Next project...finding out how many counties have never had a representative in the Sweet 16. I can't imagine there would be many.

My guess is they forgot to cut the bottoms out of the bushel baskets.

Menifee County - Frenchburg won Region 15 in 1938

Bath County - Bath County won Region 10 twice, in 1975 and 1977.

 

I did not see any that looked like they were from Robertson or Lewis.

In the 14th region I know Owsley County and Wolfe County have never been to the Sweet 16. Owsley has been runner-up twice and Wolfe runner-up once, but that's as close as they've been.

Not sure but I think the 1940 Hazel Green team that won might be the Hazel Green Academy that used to be in Wolfe.
