Highlands 63 Ryle 61

Featured Replies

Final from Ft. Thomas.

Birds trailed by as many as 14 in this game but fought back with a huge 8-0 run to end the 3rd. They picked up where they left off in the 4th taking the lead and going up by as many as 9 points with 1 minute remaining. Towles hit some huge Free Throws in the final minute to extend the lead.

Ryle down 61-52 with 50 seconds left went on a Three Point Shooting clinic. I believe Mays hit one and then Fussinger drilled 2 in a row from the same spot off of Highlands turnovers. With the game tied at 61 with 15 sec left Highlands called a timeout to set up the final play.

Ryle overplayed the guards looking for a steal and Towles found Bailey Witte under the basket where he converted a bucket over two defenders with 3 seconds left.

Mays' desperation heave hit the backboard and caught rim but no good. Highlands hangs on and they needed that win bad.

Sam Lewis had a huge 2nd half scoring in bunches. He led the Birds with 21 while Patrick Towles chipped in 17.

Awesome!!!! The Birds needed to get the monkey off their back..:dancingpa

Birds shutdown Mullins tonight.

Mays had a big 1st qtr drilling 3 treys for 9 points.

I believe the Birds scored 24 points in the final qtr.

Luke Turner sparked the Birds 3rd qtr run with a big bucket, steal and a couple rebounds. Solid effort out of everyone tonight.

Mullins has been shut down a lot this year.

Sounds like one heckuva game Q. Good for Witte. His biggest career basket?? Nice win for the Birds.

Game of spurts.

He redeemed himself from the other night when he missed the same shot that would have won it with 4 seconds. This time he knew the contact was coming and stuck it in.

I dont know what was worse tonight, the Birds not defending the Perimeter the last 50 seconds of the game up 9 or the Raiders not defending the basket and gambling by overplaying the guards out front.

I told a guy next to me when Ryle tied it on their 3rd consecutive trey with 15 seconds left, if I could stroke a check to get the win I would stroke it right there. That is how bad they needed the win.

Yes, I wasnt impressed and he had a big turnover late in the game which is uncharacteristic of a Sr. He also had a huge charge called on him driving to the hoop late in the 4th qtr.

I dont think Ryle had a very good game plan coming in. 6'2 Witte defended 6'4 Smith the entire game and I was suprised they didnt try and post Smith up more. He is very athletic and plays well around the rim. Mullins has a nice handle and is deceptively quick but they didnt run any plays to free him up to the basket.

Great win, Q!!!

Good to see you guys pull it out. Keep it up.

Congrats to the Birds! :thumb:

Good for Bailey and the Birds...huge win for them after some of the early season struggles.

Need to string together some wins.

Play South Laurel down at Clark County tomorrow at Noon which is winnable. Highlands defeated them in a preseason scrimmage down at Somerset.

Not sure how much a scrimmage matters though.

Ryle 15 13 20 13 61

Highlands 12 11 17 23 63

Ryle -- Mays 15, Fussengger 17, Smith 11, Mullins 5, Ernst 1, James 6, Pavey 2, Walsh 4.

Highlands -- Towles 17, Lewis 21, Turner 7, Houliston 7, Witte 3, True 5, Buten 3.

Nice win, Birds! But as I say when they lose...It's all practice until March! But it IS NICE to get a dub-ya once in a while!

Wow...the Enquirer couldnt even give the Birds any press. All they got was a boxscore where they screwed up and said Highlands led at halftime 28-23 which wasnt the case. They were down at halftime.

Oh well....BGP is the new primary source for your Hoops results anyway. Its where I go first.

Mays seems to be playing well for the Raiders.
