USC's Matt Barkley Announces Decision

Featured Replies

1 - He's making as much in LA as he would in the NFL.

2 - He has a much better chance of being the #1 pick next season.

3 - He's BMOC at USC!

I would stay there forever if I were him, I like cheerleaders what can I say.

Cheerleaders in sweaters, no less.

People say Matt Leinhart made a bad decision going back. However he probably lived the best year a man could ever live during that next year he came back. He had to take one class which was ballroom dancing, probably any girl he wanted, and played on the best team in college football while in Cali. It really does not get any better than that. Also he still has Millions of dollars so even though he didn't work out as a QB in the NFL, he is set for life still money wise. So I don't think he made the wrong decision, and I don't blame Barkley either. The points you made are right.

Good luck to him, but I think he is messing up.

Did Andrew Luck?

Mistake IMO.

To play for a BCS title and win the Heisman?

I'll be honest.....I am super glad he came back. Lamar Dawson will be the starting middle linebacker for a BCS title contending team. I couldn't be happier and Boyle County is Trojan country now.

And yes, I usually bang the strike while the iron is hot drum but I think Barkley will be fine.

Tonight I grilled a ribeye steak medium rare, baked a potato with some sauteed mushrooms, ate a nice garden salad, washed it all down with several glasses of an unpretentious pinot noir, had my dessert pie a la mode, will enjoy an after-dinner cognac, read some Nero Wolfe, and sleep like a dead man. Matt Barkley has made me a happy man.

I am ecstatic to hear this. I remember seeing a video 3-4 years ago of him saying his dream was to play at usc. I love that he's coming back. It's a good day to be a usc fan.

From a financial standpoint, I don't think it ever makes sense to stay in college when your stock is as high as Barkley's currently is. However, money is just one factor in the decision.

For some people, money may be the only consideration. For others, like Barkley, it obviously isn't, so I can't say he is making a mistake.

Nobody can say it is a mistake, because there is no right or wrong decision to be made. How it plays out is anybody's guess. People like to point to Leinart, who was viewed as the likely #1 pick when he elected to stay, then he dropped to #11 the next year. However, no one points to Sam Bradford who elected to stay, got hurt and missed much of his final season and ended up being the top overall pick.

As a Trojan fan, I'm excited to have Barkley back. I believe he could end up being a better NFL QB than Luck.

Looks like Lane has everybody on board to make a push next year in the first season off bowl suspension. I'm feeling a lot of disapointed USC fans. I can see them making it to the Rose Bowl but they will not play for the NC, they will drop a game or two along the way. SEC wins another title next season.

Did Andrew Luck?

Sure did, he should have left last year with his coach. If he had, we would be saying Alex Smith who? oh well.

We'll see. They'll be awful tough next year. Not saying they'll win the title but they have a spectacular chance to play for it.

Oh they definitely have a chance, especially in the mediocre at best Pac 12. Still I look for them to do the typical USC thing and that is to lose to someone they are not supposed to and ruin any title shot they had. Could come against Cal, Oregon St., somebody like that. They will lose at least one though.

The PAC12 will have 2 teams in the top 5 next season. Hardly weak. Not the SEC from top to bottom but definitely some good teams that can pull an upset. Arizona St, UCLA, Stanford, Oregon St, Cal...etc.
