Facebook Timeline

Facebook is trying to turn into this all-encompassing tool to represent ourselves online. It's evolving more and more toward integrating itself with everything we do, from work to leisure. There are apps that will share every song you play, every article you read, and facebook itself will constantly update where you are if you let it. I've noticed with the timeline it prods you into revealing more information about yourself - I noticed some random things from my timeline pop up with yes or no questions attached, like "were you in Lexington, Kentucky when you took this picture?" I'm definitely reluctant to go head first into that (and I wonder if it isn't all an effort to create the world's greatest direct advertising machine before its eventual IPO). Despite my reluctance I've more or less used it that way these days. The timeline thing is unwieldy, though. I don't really want people to see - to be encouraged to see! - what I or my friends wrote years back, even if it was innocuous.

So I just follow that link and I can start cleaning house?

Well I can't get the link to work.

All you have to do is type Timeline in the search on Facebook and it will come up and show you how it all works.

No, it's directions on how to add the timeline to your Facebook now. I'm sorry, I thought that was what you were asking so you could go ahead and delete some old post. .

I see. :thumb:

I had a dream, or I guess you could say it was a nightmare, that sometime in the not-so-distant future when babies are born they are required to sign up for FB. It is really interesting to see the FB effect worldwide. At a recent seminar they were discussing how some Universities are now doing away with Email and faculty are required to maintain a FB page instead.

Wow, that's pretty interesting. I read something similar in an article not too long ago that was arguing that email is outdated and companies would be wise to switch to social media like facebook for communication and such. They were basically saying that email has existed since the 80s and that facebook is more modern and has more utility and functionality.

Can't remember which company locally (GE?, P&G?), but just heard recently that they are developing their own, internal social media program for employees.

I wonder if they won't just end up using facebook or G+. Seems like it would be a pain to maintain something like that internally.

Can you even delete facebook anymore? From my understanding, if you remove your account then log into it again in the future it will reappear, fully restored. It's like we're living in the Matrix.
That's what happens. I just did it. Had to deactivate it again. Can't find a permanent option. I guess I'm going to have to play it in Yahtzee.

Btw, stuff I deleted still showed up. So I deactivated until I can further investigate.

I just made all of my co workers walk over to my computer because I was laughing so hard at this. They liked it as well.

Hmm. I might be doing that too, as I'm still debating what to do and I won't have time to police it until after it's published. I'm still not completely fluent in their updated privacy settings either.

How do I get this stupid thing, so I can delete stuff? The link LRCW posted doesn't work.

Just go to the Facebook search bar, type in Timeline, go to the page. At the bottom is a green button that says something like "Get Timeline". I just did it. I like it.

There's no green button on mine. :idunno:
