As Saint X point guard goes, so goes St X. The kid is left handed and everything he does he goes to his left. Ruthsatz made him go to the right and the kid was a mess the rest of the night. Great coaching call. The Ruthsatz kid for a sophomore can flat play defense and every other phase of the game.

 

That would be great except Ruthsatz only matched up with the St X PG maybe a third of the time and the St X guard got in the lane all night. Both PG's struggled with turnovers all night and it made for a really ugly basketball game.

 

CovCath played well in the first half when they knocked down some shots but really struggled when St X turned up the pressure in the 2nd half.

 

St X missed a whole lot of point blank layups as their bigs struggled to finish around the rim.

 

Second time I have seen CovCath this season and impressed with their effort. Ruthsatz is a nice player for a soph and he can score the basketball from the PG spot. Defensively he is solid but not a lock down defender on the perimeter. His body style and game remind me a lot of Matt Trammell from Dixie.

 

Looking forward to the district battles this year.

How does St. X have 1700 boys and not dominate in basketball??? I Guess its a football,golf,track and soccer school!

Cov Cath is a photographers dream, I thank the players and students for creating such a great environment! My hat is off to each and every one of them.

 

Last year's graduated players gave me a gift card for last season's pictures during this game, tell me that is not a classy move by some great young men. Totally unexpected, totally unnecessary but absolutely appreciated.

 

And now back to the game.

Perhaps they just need to work harder to compete with the public schools.....

Not only do they not dominate, they are very average. Remember Collegiate in the district tournament? Hard to imagine indeed.

Unlike football, they have not been able to attract the elite level basketball kids. Not sure for the reason as I think they have a good coach.
