December 15, 201114 yr I've always thought time was more of an earthly human concept that God was outside. It's hard/impossible idea to grasp, but at the same time ask the scientist where the first atoms and molecules from from to form the clump that lead to the big bang? No matter how you look at the beginning of things is hard/impossible to understand and comprehend. As humans we only know time in linear fashion. Everything has a starting point & an ending point. We learn history and events by timelines. We sometimes want to do that with God, but I believe He created time & is not bound by it. I can't begin to comprehend that, but I believe it to be true. And when you think about it, any view concerning the origin of the universe has to acknowledge that there is someone or something that is eternal. There has to be an uncaused cause somewhere or at some point. That is true whether you are a Bible-believing Christian or the most ardent atheist. For my money, it makes more sense to say that there is a Higher Power who is eternal.
December 15, 201114 yr If you believe all humans came from Adam & Eve than incest had to have happened. Yes, but prior to some of those genetic mutations from forming. It wasn't until later that God outlawed incest. Genesis is FULL of people getting it on with family members.
December 15, 201114 yr I would be classified as a Biblical literalist, but that is an absurd notion IMO. I'd never heard it before you just mentioned it. Do you believe the world is only 6,000 years old?
December 15, 201114 yr Sounds like a good topic to learn more about. (I say that sincerely...I enjoy plate tectonics...but I am a science geek. I do ask one thing. Explore it scientifically. That means instead of arriving at an answer first, look at all of the evidence and go where that leads. If you do it backwards, it's not scientific - and what it amounts to is cherry picking to fit an answer, while ignoring the whole body of evidence. Sounds like most religions in the world.
December 15, 201114 yr Do you believe the world is only 6,000 years old? Very likely. I'm only hesitant because I'm unsure about the six days of creation. There are two things that I believe give the impression that the world is older than it is: 1) I believe the flood is literal & that the devastation it created altered the face of the planet. 2) I believe God created things with age already on them. Adam, I believe, was created as an adult. On the day he was created, he was only one-day-old. But he appeared much older than that, because he was created with age on him. Same is true with everything else in creation. It's appears older than it is, in part, because it was aged at birth.

Is it not possible that the six days of creation represent a much larger time period than six literal days, over which all of what science tells us has happened actually occurred?
December 15, 201114 yr So you believe that the story of creation is to be taken literally? Why is that? Is it not possible that the six days of creation represent a much larger time period than six literal days, over which all of what science tells us has happened actually occurred? Yes, I believe it's to be taken literally. And I'm inclined to think that it was six days as we know them because of the repetitive "evening & morning" used in the text. However, Scripture also says that with God a day is like a thousand years & a thousand years like a day, so of course it's possible that it represented a much larger time period than six literal days. Essentially, I believe we are here by God's design & purposeful intent; not by a cataclysmic accident.
December 15, 201114 yr I would be classified as a Biblical literalist, but that is an absurd notion IMO. I'd never heard it before you just mentioned it. I can't comprehend believing in Jesus and the bible and not being a literalist. Do people just get to pick and choose which stories from the bible to believe?
December 15, 201114 yr ^ I was referring to a comment Jim made that some Christians believe that God planted dino skeletons as a way to test our faith. There's no Biblical evidence of that whatsoever.
December 15, 201114 yr Author Very likely. I'm only hesitant because I'm unsure about the six days of creation. If you believe the world is only 6,000 years old then wouldn't humans and dinosaurs had to have inhabited the earth together?
December 15, 201114 yr If you believe the world is only 6,000 years old then wouldn't humans and dinosaurs had to have inhabited the earth together? If those six days are six days like ours, yes.
December 15, 201114 yr Author If those six days are six days like ours, yes.So why is there no historical evidence of this?
December 15, 201114 yr So why is there no historical evidence of this? As I mentioned earlier, speaking specifically of dinosaurs, I haven't studied it enough. But your question certainly is a valid one.
December 15, 201114 yr Author As I mentioned earlier, speaking specifically of dinosaurs, I haven't studied it enough. But your question certainly is a valid one. This is always the question I come to when speaking with strict creationist. I'm very curious to see an answer to it as I can't find one myself.
December 16, 201114 yr If you believe all humans came from Adam & Eve than incest had to have happened. My dad used to have a saying. "Everything is relative. Especially incest."
