December 16, 201114 yr Author Well the Bible doesn't go into detail on every aspect, but I have heard this from many experts, and the thinking is if God created the universe and a man, why not more than just one? Even as a young man I would ask my teachers.."who did the Children of Adam & Eve marry. Did they just wait for their sisters to develop"? The last verse in John states.."Jesus did many other things as well, If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have the room for the books that would be written." So this is an Alabama Larry belief and not something the Bible actually espouses?
December 16, 201114 yr So this is an Alabama Larry belief and not something the Bible actually espouses? As for the rib, Genesis 2:21–22 states: "And God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man"
December 16, 201114 yr It isn't so much picking and choosing, but rather interpreting it in a different way. I don't see how believing that God actually created the world over a much longer period of time than 7 days is changing the message. I do believe that the stuff in the NT is to be taken literally, as they are actual accounts written down by those present at the time. However, I have not read all of it so I am not worthy of a debate on the subject. I'm also not that worthy of a debate on the subject. Its just my opinion that if any of the NT isn't true why believe any of it? The way I see it is Jesus definitely lived. The only question is was he a great preacher/con man or the son of God?
December 16, 201114 yr This is always the question I come to when speaking with strict creationist. I'm very curious to see an answer to it as I can't find one myself. As I've stated, my knowledge on this particular subject isn't all that extensive. But from what I understand--and as you pointed out--there have never been human fossils found in the same rock layers as dinosaur fossils. There have been footprints, if I remember right, but not fossils (on the footprints...I'm thinking there was a discovery around my senior year of high school--maybe 96?). But I would think even the footprint evidence is viewed with skepticism by some, because there are some proven hoaxes. So the fact that there isn't definitive evidence that the two co-existed is troubling for someone who takes the Genesis account literally. But at the same time, I'm not sure it's a deal-breaker. From what I've read just in the last 24 hours or so, there are other species of animals that we know existed with man, yet we can't find fossil evidence of it (this comes from both creation scientists & non-creation scientists). In what I've read, I was actually very surprised to learn how few fossilized dinosaurs have been found, when compared with the total number of fossilized animals. Something like 2,100 fossilized dinosaurs (not 2,100 whole dinosaurs, just parts in most cases) have been found according to one article I read. According to another article (not sure whether Christian or non-Christian), there has only been one head of a stegosaurus that has ever been found. That really surprised me, as I was under the notion that we had many more discoveries. In actuality, the overwhelming majority of fossilized creatures that have been found are marine life/sea creatures. Something like 95% of all fossils that have been discovered are sea dwelling creatures. Honestly, a lot of the stuff I've tried to read goes way over my head. But the basics I can get: no fossils of dinos have been found with human fossils. Footprints, I believe, have been. But again, I'm not 100% sure on the latter.
December 16, 201114 yr So this is an Alabama Larry belief and not something the Bible actually espouses? While I can't rule it out completely, I would say with near certainty that God did not create other people in the same way He created Adam. Adam was from the dust of the ground. Eve was from Adam's rib. Even Jesus was born of woman. There was definitely incest, because we see relatives marrying one another throughout Genesis--particularly the first 25 chapters of the book. Abraham's wife Sarah was also his half-sister. Isaac's wife Rebekah was his cousin. It wasn't until God gave the law to Moses that incest was outlawed.
December 17, 201114 yr Nowhere is scripture are we told that the canon purports to be an entire history of the world. In fact, a clear reading of it is that it is not. Scripture tells of the creation of Man in the story of Adam and Eve. There is NOTHING that would prohibit a belief that after He did that, that He could not also have started civilization in the Yellow River valley, in the Indus River valley, and in the Yucutan. Discovering that would not turn anything in the Bible on its head, just as discovering alien life would not turn the Bible on its head. I happen to believe that the Bible even suggests it, when Cain kills Abel, and is cast out into the wilderness, his anguished words to God are "today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence. I will be a restless wanderer on the earth and whoever finds me will kill me." (Gen 4:14) Who is he talking about?
December 17, 201114 yr ^ Fair points. I've never thought of it that way. I was always under the assumption that Cain was concerned, not just about the immediate, but also the future. They lived up to 900+ years in those days.
December 17, 201114 yr So this is an Alabama Larry belief and not something the Bible actually espouses?Holy Spirit in the form of Bible experts who Alabama Larry has heard from. And its not an issue that Alabama Larry has spent a whole lot of time on, I also believe God created others and might even done so after the flood, who knows but God is God for a reason. I worry more about getting people to understand the Gospel which promises eternal life, which is quite a long time.
December 17, 201114 yr When the scripture says that a flood covered the entire "earth," must it automatically be the entire round blue dot that we now know as this planet? Put alternatively, would the Bible story be eroded if the flood were not the entire planet? Incidentally, if the flood had to cover China, and India, and South America, too, would that not be evidence that God created other humans elsewhere in the world than just where Adam and Eve were?
