There is no "feeder" schools anymore...the Diocese decided to do away with that when they mandated that ALL tuition be the same for everyone. People may think there are "feeder" schools, or better yet parishes, but the honest truth is you can go to any Diocesan high school and pay the same rates regardless of where you live now.

 

This seems to contradict what BGH says. Which is it? :idunno: I know you can go to any Diocesan high school you choose as a freshman, but as an 8th grader can you play for any catholic high school you want if they need players for a certain sport? That just doesn't seem right, but if there are no feeder schools then that would be the case, correct?

Any student who is a 7th or 8th grader currently enrolled in a Diocese of Covington Grade School can play softball at any Diocesan High School and still attend another high school. May not be fair, but it happens all the time. Students in grade school at Villa play high school and then leave to CCH or NDA for high school, as one example. Or kids moving between NCC and Brossart. In some cases, I know players who played for a Diocesan high school as a 7th or 8th grader and ended up at a public school like Dixie.

 

As far as I have read, the KHSAA is silent on all of these scenarios. You can play a Varsity sport up through 8th grade and still change schools at the beginning of your freshman year without being subject to any penalties like sitting out a year.

 

Again, may not be right, but alot of parents are choosing schools based on athletics and not academics necessarily. JMO

WRONG........They have to belong to a parish that is districted to that High School. You are correct that once they are freshman they can go to another high school.

You may think that you are correct and ABC2 may not care. The fact is that history tells us that that there are not "feeder" schools like there used to be.

Thanks LB. I was wondering who HT was as I didn't see them in your previous post listed among the feeder schools. Brossart, Holy Cross, NewCath and St. Henry should change to Academy's. Can they do that? I would be interested to hear what you find out. This is very interesting and should cuase some frustration for those schools that are not Academy's. There sounds to me like there could be some illegal "recruiting" going on with ND and Villa if they chose to. Seems like they could invite kids from any catholic grade school to play for them and thus have an advantage. Doesn't seem very fair to me. Definitely not on a level playing field IMO. I would not be too happy about this if I was part of the administration from any of the four schools mentioned above. :irked:

I guess all of you will need to explain the recruiting thing, but it seems to me according to BGH they don't go looking outside their own feeder schools? I will have to questsion a girl someone told me about that played softball at the varsity level at a neighborhood public school rival, but I guess that does not count because it is a public school and if I am not mistaken didn't a girl from Holy Cross play basketball for Brossart this year while her twin sister stayed at Holy Cross??

The "Academy" behind their name has nothing to do with it. Let me repeat - THERE ARE NO DISTRICT BOUNDARIES - AND AS OF 3 YEARS AGO WHEN THEY DID AWAY WITH OUT OF DISTRICT TUITION - THERE ARE NO "FEEDER" SCHOOLS. Call the Diocese Board of Education and ask their opinion.

Maybe there are no boundaries in Kenton or Boone Counties, but sounds like there are still boundaries in Campbell Couny. Stlill curious about what makes a school an Academy.
